There are many homestays in Haputale, I chose Bawa because of their hospitality. The owner was very nice, he tried the best to solve my problem. Every morning he prepared big breakfast to me. Room is simple but cozy, they also offer dinner for reasonable price. One thing that need to mention, the family is a gems collector, the lady owner love to sell gems, if you really want to buy, remember to bargain.
We first stayed here in 2014. On a recent return trip to the area there was no question about where we would stay. The place is in a good location. Nice and quiet but walking distance to the main town. The rooms are large and well kept and great value. We ate dinner here every night always leaving feeling full and satisfied with a great freshly prepared meal including tea afterwards it was fantastic and again, brilliant value. The family are so warm, friendly and welcoming. They were always around to offer help and advice when we needed it and nothing was too much trouble. They even remembered us from the first time which felt amazing. We would definitely stay here again!
We were very please with our 3 day stay at Bawa GH. The family members are friendly, helpful, and flexibly minded, and our room was spacious and comfy in a simple style with lots of windows and great views to match. But the food was really the star at Bawa. We ate every breakfast and dinner there while in Haputale, though we had not planned to do so until we had our first dinner. Tasty food, diverse dishes that seldom repeated over our stay and large quantities. All for very reasonable prices by Sri Lankan standards. Highly recommended. Oh, and they kindly arranged free tuk tuk transport to the Guest House from the railway station.
We called Bawa guesthouse when another guesthouse didn't have a room for us even though we had a reservation. We were picked up from the railwaystation for free, were warmly welcomed and had a great meal. We were happy we got to stay at Bawa and would have stayed longer if we could have. Greatly recommended!
Room overlooks a valley with beautiful sunrise in the mornings and is just 10-15 minutes walk from the city centre on the railway tracks. You can opt for dinners at the guesthouse, along with breakfast which is delicious - little surprise since the hosts used to work in hotel kitchens. They offer tours to nearby attractions at reasonable rates as well - they brought us to Bambarakanda Falls, the tallest waterfall in Sri Lanka. Room and the adjoining bathroom were big and spacious but do not expect modern amenities such as TV in the room. Instead, be prepared to disconnect from the world and enjoy the nature from the balcony.
