Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Stayed 1 night in the older style motel type accommodation. The unit was clean but very basic and the shower was tiny. This was perhaps reflected in the price of $140 for 4 adults
We had a meal in the evening and it was enjoyed by all of us. The guys had the chicken schnitzel with mash and vegetables. Us ladies had the 2 different pastas on the menu and shared these between us. The shrimp and chorizo pasta was very spicy, the chicken was very creamy and delicious. Our room rate included a continental breakfast but it wasn’t available until 9 am and again was very basic. Lovely walk close by thru the bush and over a swing bridge. Unfortunately it was drizzling the day we arrived and heavy rain thru the night and before we left so didn’t see the Lake at its best.

We stayed here two nights. Room was clean and had good view of the lake but people can see into your room when they walk by. We ate dinner here two nights as the food was excellent. Strongly recommend the pan fry salmon. I had it two nights in a row, it was that good! Also from 6 to 7 on weeknights they have 1/2 price draft pint beers which is awesome!

We booked our two night stay on a grab one voucher. All the staff at Hotel Lake Brunner are very friendly and welcoming. The price for the studio ground floor room including continental breakfast was very fair. Continental breakfast on the first day was a serving for one which we made do for two. The next day breakfast was twice as much, which was a great improvement. The accommodation was clean and warm and spacious for a studio unit with a view of the lake. The bed in our unit was uncomfortable, past its best and needs replacing. The room was warm and cosy, using radiators.. The bathroom, in the unit was a disabled bathroom. Unfortunately the water flowed all over the floor and made for a wet experience as the floor slopes towards the toilet and not directly to the shower waste. Tuesday dinner, special, 2 for 1 rump steak. The steak was really tasty and tender. The coleslaw definitely home made and not from a bag. Thoroughly enjoyed. Dinner the next night. Prime Ribeye was chewy. The roasted beetroot salad with lentils and red onion with whipped feta was very good. The potato bites under cooked and not nice. Overall Hotel Lake Brunner is a convenient place to stay with a restaurant and bar attached.

Stopping over on our Trans Alpine train journey was a wonderful experience, especially the friendly staff and the varied dinner menu. Moana is so peaceful with good family walks around the lake. Nothing was a problem for the staff and we appreciated them going out of their way to drop us off at the nearby trailhead - and picking us up.

Stayed for two nights while touring NZ. The hotel is within easy travelling distance of Arthur's Pass and in a good location in the centre of the very small town.
Don't expect ultra modern and exciting night life. Do expect an adequate room, a friendly welcome and a bar that does reasonable food.

Lake Brunner is a lovely out of the way place with a great feel. The Hotel is divided into the older front part with the restaurant and bar and behind are two stories of modern bedroom units. There was a warm vibe when we arrived and the room was clean, warm and inviting. We had dinner in the restaurant with good service and nice, tasty New Zealand-style food. The wine list was a bit thin but didn't detract from the experience. We were able to walk in the bush and along the lake the next morning before checking out, amazing scenery.

40 of of from the West Coast Branch of the VCC enjoyed a light lunch buffet, in a very cosy, spacious bar and dining area. The bar staff were quick and friendly. We were given a choice of several buffet options, interestingly not the normal run of the mill range, we had the light buffet option. It was well organised, with tables set up, food hot and plentiful, water ta and coffee available. All the staff were friendly, respectful and extremely helpful. So thank you Sanju, Anna. Teegan, Hasan and the chefs David and Lisa for making our Sunday run and lunch very enjoyable time. in a relaxed atmosphere.

This hotel is an utter scam. The room was absolutely not what was advertised. The hotel does have the building that is pictured on the website, however the room we got was a fibro shack from the 70s. It had no insulation and despite having 3 heaters blasting we had to ask for a fourth. This coupled with the thin sheets on the bed made for a cold night.
The room was not clean and every corner was covered in spider webs. The sheets were stained in a manner that suggested that they had not been washed and were thin with no winter duvets. The beds were very uncomfortable, because of loose springs and disintegrating foam. Between this and the weird noise that persisted all night neither of us got a good sleep.
The bathroom was tiny, dirty and moldy. The bathroom was the real sticking point for me because we had specifically booked this hotel because the bathroom looked clean in the pictures.
I payed 140 for a single night for a room that I would not pay 40 dollars for. I have never left a negative review for anything before but this place has compelled me to do it. I had seen the negative reviews and took it on faith that the hotels response that the issues the other people had experienced had been resolved. They were not.
I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Staff were nice though.

Unless you like to be ripped off don't stay here. For $195 per night we got a small room with a bathroom which was so small we had trouble getting undressed in it. Luckily, we are both quite small people, I don't think a larger person would have been able to fit in the shower. The window which looked out onto the carpark had no blind or curtain (there had been one but it had long since gone and not been replaced) so we were on public display. Add to this no electric blanket, no bedside lights, mould, dust, cobwebs, no sink plug, no towel rail of any sort, old shabby furniture, one only ineffective heater andflimsy single glazing so it was very noisy - yes, you too can have this nightmare for $195.00 per night. I suggest you don't, we certainly won't be back.
