Lagoon is perched on the banks of the wild Kwando River, nestled beneath towering ebony and marula trees. The heavily forested site is home to a wide variety of birds and mammals, while elephant and hippo are normally visible from the camp. The stunning views and close proximity of wildlife all contribute to the pervading sense of calm at Lagoon. The Kwando Reserve has a well-earned reputation for big game and large herds of elephant and buffalo, especially in the winter months, when herds of up to a thousand are not uncommon. This vast concentration of game attracts the attention of large predators. The Lagoon wild dog pack regularly den close to the camp and the excellent viewing opportunities have led to Lagoon's reputation as the place to see wild dog in Botswana. Seasonally large herds of elephant drink at the river bank near to the camp in full view of the main deck, while playful spotted - necked otters are commonly seen performing in the water.

This was our second lodge in the Kwando Concession, having come here from Splash Camp, which was excellent. It was not disappointing in the least. The lodge at Lagoon is just beautiful. The rooms are quite large and are laid out perfectly, with a lovely deck overlooking the river and fabulous inside and outside showers. You can hear the hippos grunting all night! The food is excellent and the staff are welcoming and friendly. There is no wifi, but personally I liked that. It actually made the whole stay more relaxing, in a strange way.

The game drives were excellent. Our guide (Spencer) and tracker (Kern) were friendly and knowledgeable and made the drives informative and fun. I honestly don't think there could have been a better guide than Spencer. My camera died previously and Spencer kindly took photos for me. Above and beyond - thank you, Spencer! We had been to Africa on safari 4 times previously and not seen the wild dogs, but on our way to the airport, they literally came down to the truck to see us. Amazing!

We spent four nights at Lagoon Camp and I just can't say enough about how we loved the entire experience. We would definitely love to return to it or any of the Kwando properties!

We spent 4 nights at the Lagoon camp from August 28th to September 1st 2021, and what a great experience ! The whole staff was very friendly and we were welcomed like family. Our room was more than spatious and very comfortable with H24 power supply and hot water, as well as a beautiful terrace with direct view on the river and its fauna. The meals were delicious and generous. We had the chance to taste a traditional menu for a special occasion. A real treat !
We also appreciated the talents of our two guides that were able to track lions on several occasions. Seeing them scan the ground for these enigmatic footprints was particularly impressive.
But the highlight of our stay was spending a few hours with a pack of 13 wild dogs, including 7 cubs. An unforgettable memory and a dream that has come true.
We can recommend without hesitation this camp to anyone who is looking for amazing experience in the Kwando area.

We absolutely loved our experience at the food camp. Good food, exceptional service, lovely camp, and great guiding. But our favorite part may have been the location right on the lagoon - waking up to a view of the water in the mornings, seeing all the animals gather in the afternoons, and the boat tour right from the property. The rooms also had high ceilings and netting that allowed you to see the stars right from your bed at night. Would highly recommend!

This is such a lovely camp - set in the most beautiful location where the animals and bird sightings are amazing from the camp itself, never mind the game drives. Excellent food, comfortable and spacious "tents" and just wonderful guides and trackers. We were part of a group of friends that took the whole camp and had the best time. Intermittent mobile phone signal from nearby Namibia meant you could be in touch with family - the first time for us in over 8 days - but actually the lack of access to the 21st century has to be seen as a plus...... just watch the wonderful landscape and amazing animals and birds around you.

My husband and I stayed at Lagoon November 3-6, 2021. It was the second of our 5 camps and was my favorite. I loved the location on the river and spent a lot of time just sitting on our deck watching hippos and crocs swim by, elephants walk by and listening to the bell frogs at night. Postarico was a wonderful guide and since they try to keep the drives as private as possible my husband and I were in the car by ourselves and he let us watch a young leopard for over an hour and stay with a pride of lions while they played (?!) with a leopard tortoise for almost 2 hours. He was very open to what our desires were. The food was great and the staff at the camp were friendly and had great senses of humor and good singing voices! Shout out to KB for his tracking and Vic for making everything go so smoothly.

Just returned from our stay at Lagoon. There are no words that properly describe our experience. Our Guide "G" and Tracker James were expertly trained in tracking all of the majestic animals we encountered. "G" was so knowledgable of the habitat and nature of these animals. We loved these guys.

The Staff were so accommodating and graciously made us feel welcomed. Our tent overlooked the magnificent lagoon. We were welcomed by a hippo just offer deck. The animal & bird sounds during the evening created a wonderful relaxing feeling through the night. The food was delicious and they were very kind to cater to my husbands dietary needs at each meal.

August -Sept was a perfect time to visit. The temps were cool in the morning for our 6:30am drives (55 that warmed to 85 ). The evening drives 4:30pm started our warm (80 and ended around 75 degrees). No bugs or mosquitos

Animal Sighting: elephants, giraffes, leopards, impalas, kudos, antelopes, water buffalo, zebras, warthogs, baboons, jackal, wildebeest, steenbok, lions & colorful African birds

Our Sundowners (Botswana Happy Hour) took place in the bush during sunset. Truly amazing evening experience

Victoria Falls to Botswana - it was a 1 hr drive to the border where we met another drive who took us to Kasane Airport (about 20 mins) for our Bush Flight. What an amazing experience as we flew over the delta. It was an exciting 50 min flight to the Kwando air strip. Cue the herd of elephants!!!on the road to the camp.

On our last night in camp the entire staff entertained us after dinner with music & song. It was awesome.

Random thoughts:
Don't obsess about wearing/buying "safari" clothing but definitely be prepared to dress in layers.

Laundry daily if you need it. I brought a portable clothes line as they do not was underwear or socks.

NO WIFI which was WONDERFUL.

Electric was Type M

We moved on to Kwando Splash Camp which we found to be a "little" less accommodating. See my review

DO NOT hesitate to book this Kwando camp. We highly recommend it.

We had a really lovely room overlooking the Kwando river where the Hippos lived and came up onto the bank at night to graze.
The staff here, like the other 2 Kwando camps that we visited were amazing and really went out of their way to look after you and make you feel special. One night we were even greeted on our return back to camp in the dark by the whole team singing to us, including olulinga - that amazing sound of a warbling voice.
Our driver Stan was incredibly knowledgeable - there wasn't anything he didn't know and we had a very interesting commentary on every game drive - not just about the game that we saw but how the landscape was formed, how strangler fig trees operated and why there were Ledwood or Palm trees where they were.
Kern was an amazing spotter and tracked down Wild Dog prints on our way into camp for the first time. We had the privilege of following them on a successful hunt as well as seeing them chase off 2 hyenas from the kill.
This is a lovely place but as I have said before we just can't cope with the Kwando company's policy of having the poor driver stay up with you and escort you to bed, especially when he will have been up before 05.00 in order to wake you up

We had been waiting to go to Lagoon Camp for over 2 years due to Covid delays and it was everything I had ever dreamed of during all that wait. Lagoon was the first stop of a three stop trip to Botswana and Victoria Falls and it was the perfect introduction to this magical part of the world. From the moment of arrival the staff is welcoming and kind and I love the moist towels for cleaning up that appear at every return to camp. The camp is sited right on the river and hippo and antelope and elephants can be watched right from camp - one of my requests in setting up the trip. The rooms are really luxurious and well appointed. We loved hearing the hippos call to each other in the night, and the elephants chomping the grass nearby. Kwando's guide and tracker system is truly excellent and makes sure that you can see everything and anything that is going on. Our guide Matt was so knowledgeable and willing to share it all with us and, together with our tracker Kern, did an amazing job including finding lions in the night and tracking leopard and making sure we had an amazing time. The kit they pull out for coffee stops in the morning and for sun downers at night is amazingly well designed and made us feel so wonderfully lucky to be in this truly amazing spot. Matt was excellent at pulling around so that the best photos could be taken in the wonderful early and late light, with the amazing December clouds we had heard about. The meals at the camp, including breakfast around the fire, brunch, tea and dinner were all really good - much better than I had maybe thought, with great variety and nice local twists. And we loved that the guides sit with the guests at meals. We learned so much! Thank you to everyone there.

I wish we had had more nights at Lagoon, as I really loved the river setting and would have loved to try some of the boating and fishing that were offered, but we could not resist the game drives. I really cannot fault anything about Lagoon and just now need to try to figure out how and when I can go back!

We traveled to Botswana at the end of the lockdown and it was certainly worth the hassles of covid tests and cancelled international flights!

We were greeted very warmly by the camp team and had the most beautiful tent, I use the word very loosely as it was a beautiful suite, the highlight being the private viewing of the camp elephant and her baby from the outside shower! Something I will never forget. Along with the sounds of the hippos and bell frogs at night, sending us off to sleep.

Our guide Ike and spotter Vincent were heros, going to great lengths to find us the best spots for photography and tracking the big cats. Our first trip we had a close encounter with 2 very well fed male cheetahs. Beautiful, they were so chilled!

Everything was fantastic, the green season with the beautiful migratory birds, the boat trip (a welcome chill from the adrenaline fuelled jeep outings!), the scenic sundowners, off roading in the bush to track lions, we had the privilege of watching two female lions and their families relaxing after eating a large meal, and our delightful fellow camper, Patricia.

The food was delicious, the accommodation spotless and the staff so welcoming.

What not to love, I feel quite emotional writing this

This was the last of the 3 camps we stayed in on this trip, and was our favourite . We drove from another camp and swapped vehicles to join our guide Matt and spotter Kelbi and within 2 minutes they spotted a Martial Eagle that we had wanted to see and this set the stage for the rest of the trip. We loved the setting of lagoon camp far more rustic than the others and with all the lodges set by the river with outdoor balconies. We were in lodge 9 the last in the line which had great views across the river and grasslands. Had an amazing outdoor shower where we watched so much wildlife from hippos, elephants to our first ever sighting of a cerval. Breakfast is taken around a campfire, lunch and dinner around a big table in a dining area , and afternoon tea around the bar area. This was also a popular spot in the evening where guests met before dinner to talk about the day. The camp offers game drives in the morning and afternoon/ early evening . Like the other camps vehicles can go off road which meant we could track big cats and follow the actions of a hunt. There was a wide range of wildlife here , from birds, mammals and reptiles. Our guide was very knowledgable and also told us a lot about Botswana and its history. Kjbi was an expert guide both from the vehicle and on foot tracking cats. The most incredible moment was watching a pride of 19 lions hunting a warthog, where our hearts were in our mouths, before we watched a group of sleeping pussycats turn into killers in an instant. It was exciting , horrific but so compelling to watch at such close contact . They also offer a boat trip on the river , where we got a close up view of carmine bee-eaters feeding their young. On another day the camp provided us with a lovely lunch on the boat as we returned to the camp. The camp had a lovely friendly relaxed vibe, great staff , and the food was the best that we had on our trip , good quality and very varied menu. Highly recommend this camp

Hi! Actually the rooms have been updated and you can charge in room. I had a multi adapter and I believe I used G. Kwara is brand new and I'm betting they will have direct USB ports. I stayed at Splash but will be at Kwara next October. Lagoon I believe was G. As I said you can get universal adapter that has all. You will be fine!

We flew from London to Johansburg, connecting onto a flight to Kassane and then a little plane that took us to the airstrip but we stayed at another lodge before we moved onto Lagoon. Our trip was arranged for us by Expert Africa based in London. Hope this helps.

They do not have electrical outlets in the tents. There is a central charging station at the camp near the bar. Most camps are like this, no outlets in tents.

I was at Lagoon Camp in November and the vehicles had a cover. It only rained on us once. Pack a rain coat. They do provide ponchos, which you can use to protect your gear.
