We booked the Mitsui Garden in Gotanda primarily for two reasons: it is within walking distance of a stop on the Yamanote Line (so you have excellent connections) and there is a public bath (which is not the case everywhere in Tokyo). Despite Golden Week, the price was very reasonable for what was on offer: the rooms are very small, as is typical for the area, there is hardly any storage space or counter space, and the price of living in a big city also means a certain amount of background noise.

We found the breakfast to be very good, although it was extremely busy and crowded at peak times. Minus points: the number of elevators and coin-operated washing machines is definitely too low - waiting times are inevitable for both. As in most Japanese hotels, the staff are extremely friendly, everything is very clean, in short: we would come back.

This hotel was great for tokyo standards...
We were 1 adult 2 children in a room with 3 single beds...it's not glamorous it's somewhere to sleep while we explore Tokyo.
The pyjamas are a nice touch though if you're a big adult like me they may not fit.
The onsen onnthe top floor is great.
The location is the best shinagawa is on the yamanote line subway which is the circle line of Tokyo...sonyou can get anywhere easily and quickly
Breakfast was included but it's pretty basic ok for the first few days
There is a Starbucks and supermarket just down the corner...

Would totally recommend this place

Modern hotel that is part of a well-known chain present throughout Japan. I stayed for 5 nights during my time in Tokyo. The hotel is located in the Shinagawa district in a somewhat decentralized area, but a stone's throw from Gotanda Station (Yamanote Line and Subway) from which it is convenient and relatively quick to reach the main sites of interest.
Fast check-in service and possibility of leaving your luggage which is taken directly to your room by the staff. The latter is a little small, but falls within the Japanese standard.
Presence of a free coffee machine located on the check-in floor from which you can enjoy a beautiful view of the Tokyo Skyline, especially in the evening.
Breakfast on the ground floor served at the "Tanto Tanto Restaurant" with both continental (a little sparse in the savory part) and Japanese options. Presence of a chef who cooks on sight and who prepared delicious omelettes for us on the spot.
A plus is definitely the two free onsen on the top floor (one outdoors and one indoors).
If you are looking for a convenient hotel to reach Haneda airport and are willing to give up some nightlife unless you take public transport, this hotel is for you. Excellent value for money.

Mitsui Garden Hotel Gotanda is conveniently located near transit, shops and all sorts of dining options. Easily within reach of Haneda Airport by subway. It has a modern design and is easy to navigate. There are baths on the top floor which are a nice way to relax after a long flight or busy day. There is a washer and a dryer however they seemed to be always busy. Our room was clean and everything was in good working order. Comfortable pajamas and slippers included. Tooth brushes, combs, razors, etc are available in the lobby. Staff are welcoming and accommodating. Good choice for a Tokyo stay.

I had miles so I booked a room at a price that was quite generous for me, so I was looking forward to staying there, but it was no different from an ordinary business hotel. The room was small, and as soon as I entered it smelled unclean. There was hair on the sink, bed, and bath towels, so I couldn't sleep well, and the people in the room next door were obviously talking quietly, but I could hear them all.
I used miles so I didn't use cash, so I was assigned this room? Would it have been different if I had booked normally? I regret wasting my miles on a hotel of such quality that I could have stayed at for 10,000 yen cheaper.
The front desk staff was very helpful.

This is the 2nd time staying here as we love this hotel and the surroundings. It is an easy walk from the station, just a block from Tokyu Store. If you arrive by JR subway, there’s an exit from the platform that leads right to the store. Though it is in a quieter neighborhood as compared to Shinjuku or ikebukuro, there is definitely no lack of eateries around.

The room is of quite a comfortable size and hp charger is also provided in the room. We wanted our luggage to be sent to our next destination and the reception even made a courtesy call to the hotel where I’ve made the booking to inform them.

On the whole, wonderful service, wonderful room, wonderful onsen & wonderful location. This will definitely be our 1st choice hotel in Tokyo.

Great location, service and hospitality. I will definitely stay there again next time i am in Japan Tokyo for holiday!

The hotel was easy to find - a mere 10 minutes walk from Gotanda station. Location is accessible, convenient with eateries, shops within a 5 to 10 minutes walk. It even has a convenience shop right below the hotel!

Stayed at Mitsui Graden in Gotanda twice at different times during our stay in Tokyo. Each time we have been impressed by their service. Helping us ship bags to the next destination, answering all our questions patiently and being professional at all times. Even the cleaning staff were efficient and the rooms were well maintained. The spa after a long day of travelling is perfect - you can check the crowd status in the room tv before leaving for a soak. Although it is is located in Gotanda, we found the area convenient, quiet and easily accessible via Haneda. Will defiantly stay here again, if not for the convenience then certainly for the exceptional service.

I really don't understand the not so great reviews, because we had an EXCELLENT stay at this hotel. It is located very close to the Gotanda train station, and easy walk. Our room was spacious, and the beds were very comfortable. Everything about the room was very comfortable, except for the lady next door yelling at her son one night. (She stopped as soon as we popped our heads out into the hall. We enjoyed the breakfast at the restaurant downstairs. There were lots of choices, some more traditional, some western-culture. However, it was the same exact thing every day. The onsun on the top floor was nice. I enjoyed it all by myself, especially the small outdoor area. (The inside was too hot for me.). All in all, we really liked this hotel.

You've by now read many reviews for this hotel, so I'll be brief:
- Windows open, so you can get fresh air (but they are tricky to open, you may need staff help first time)
- Trains are loud but they do stop late at night
- Lawsons downstairs, it is small but convenient
- For breakfast, there's a great cafe with espresso coffee 1 min walk away, Saison Coffee Shop
- Gotanda train station (on the Yamanote Line) is conveniently located around the corner (as are lots of shops), but if you are wheeling a suitcase, you will have to cut through the shopping arcade and Dept store, as there are LOTS of steps between the station and the hotel
- Some staff were exceptionally helpful, but others were definitely not helpful at all, there was a bit of attitude, which is a shame
- You can go for a stroll along the Meguro River, which is 1min walk away
- Nice to be in, and explore, a different part of Tokyo.

And yes, reception/front desk is crazily on Level 16, rooms are small and expensive, and the elevators are v.slow.
Didn't use the public bath so can't comment.
Would I stay there again? Maybe if I get a good deal because I like the area.

Answer from 五反田
Dear Guest, Thank you very much for the enquiry at Mitsui Garden Hotel Gotanda. Regarding to the concern, there are another way to go to hotel from Gotanda station. If you have large luggage, please use an escalator or elevator when you arrive at Gotanda station (JR). You will be able to see the upward escalator for 4th floor. And then, please go down to 1st floor by the escalator. You will arrive at supermarket in the Remy Gotanda on the 1st floor. This is a way to go without going up the pedestrian bridge. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask us anytime, please. Kind regards, Mitsui Garden Hotel Gotanda Front Office Manager
