My first visit to Japan and very soon after many covid restrictions had been lifted..the arrival and exit from the Airport was hassle free and fairly quick...the Taxi ride to the RIHGA Royal Hotel took around 30 minutes. I arrived at the hotel just after 07.00 and had to pay a fee for an early check-in, I had booked a luxury Double Room which was comfortable, spacious and quiet... the hotel is very grand inside with a wonderful lobby restaurant where you can enjoy an afternoon tea and drinks, its within walking distance of many restaurants and close to the main train station for the Bullet train, I would recommend this hotel and the staff were very attentive and courteous

This hotel doesn’t have a coin laundry on site. There is a laundry service but it is costly and we travelled as a family. We went down the street to do our washing.

We had a late check out at 6pm and paid an additional night for this.

Average buffet breakfast, however we had to pay for extra for our 5 year old because she shared a bed with us. We paid around $400 AUD per night and had to pay extra for breakfast!!

Our 8 year old had his own bed.

It is a 15 minute walk to the nearest station. Don’t be fooled if you read anywhere that it is 4 minutes.

The hotel offers a free shuttle to the metro station though but the last stop is around 9pm.

Nice hotel decor. Luggage was taken up to our room.

Pool has strict rules and cost extra.

Overall it’s an expensive stay with additional costs on board that should be included in the stay.

A fantastic hotel with very large rooms and romantic ambiance. The food is great, the bar serves delicious cocktails and very nice wines, and the gym/sauna is amazing. The lounge and garden is very beautiful and is popular for hosting weddings as well.

The staff is incredibly helpful, accommodating and kind.
The hotel is situated only two stations from Shinjuku station and very close proximity to just about anywhere. I enjoyed my stay very much and each time I visit Tokyo, I fall in love anew every time.

This hotel features traditionally styled rooms, probably imitating Eastern Europe. A coffee in the lobby came to 1,400 Yen ($12) - nearby coffee shops only open mid-morning. Pillows are designed to break your neck. The view of the gardens is nice.

The location is inconvenient, the metro system is at least 10 minutes away and there are very few restaurants and coffee places near the hotel.

The front desk staff were not proactive and unprofessional. They would not help or offer most of the services like mail service or bellboy that other four stars hotel would.

I fully understand that the staff were not fluent in English, but at least they should not drop the tenant's call before the phone conversation ended just because of the language barrier.

One of them (Ms Otsuka) called a local taxi for us but wrote us a wrong car plate number which caused a delay of our journey. She eventually found out and folded the paper note trying to cover her mistake. She did not even apologize after I told her about it.

Last but not least, the toilet was easily clogged by very few tissue paper. The breakfast food were mediocre and lack of variety.

Our four days here were a brilliant way to kick off our stay in Japan. We chose the hotel to be close to our son who is in residence at Waseda. We had no trouble getting around with metro, cabs and the hotel shuttle to the station is very useful. We just booked a car from the airport which was easy.

Rooms were very comfortable and spacious by Tokyo standards. Note that the shower is over a bath which was a bit daunting for my older mother but there are plenty of grab rails and she was fine (and loved their toiletries)! We ate at the breakfast buffet each day and it was absolutely brilliant. Lots of options for both Japanese and Western styles, wonderfully prepared by fantastic staff. We *highly* recommend the Japanese breakfast. We tried the pool which was a great experience. Yes you do pay a fee each visit and there are many rules but the facilities are wonderful quality and there are lovely staff to help you figure it all out. Our stay highlight was dinner with our own chef at Teppanyaki Miyami. I will review it separately as well but it was brilliant. The chef was so skilled and delightful company.

Lovely decor and good sized rooms but too much we didn’t like to recommend this hotel to others. Firstly we chose it as it had a pool. On arrival we were told to use it it would cost us $30 aid per person per day. Pointed out that it was not advertised on Expedia as having a surcharge. Sure enough in the very fine print it is there right at the bottom in small font. No negotiation on this, so wrong. It is a little bit out in a quiet area but courtesy bus to train works well, even if service is only half hourly. The other thing that really wound us up was the hassle over lost hotel key. It was simply a plastic card you get in any hotel but you would have thought it was crown
Jewels. On checkout we were asked for the 2 keys which we had left in the room. They made us wIy while housekeeping went to check. One was there one not and we were grilled about it. Said would check outrage bags. 4 different people asked us and tried to charge us for it. Even as taxi driver was about to take us to station another person harassed us for it. If so important they should point it out at check in. The rooms were good, beds comfortable . We did not eat in hotel as way overpriced compared to local places.
Would I stay again? Probably not. The blatant adverting of pool caused us to choose it, and feel ripped off.

We visited Rihga Royal in October 2015, for 3 nights and It was fantastic. The staff was extremely courteous and friendly. We were welcomed by a very Friendly door man, and checked in in quite comfortably. We had booked a Junior Suite, which was BEAUTIFUL. It was large and Spacious compared to Tokyo Standards with great in-room amenities. The hotel is next to Waseda University and about 10 minutes from the nearest Takadanobaba station. It is just 2 stations away from the Shinjuku station which is one of the most prominent stations in Tokyo. But the hotel offers a great complementary shuttle Service which is quite helpful. The hotel is located near some great shops wherein one can find some amazing Japanese chocolates. I cannot wait to come back to this beautiful hotel in my favorite city.

Hey. Don’t know if you went already, but yes, contact the hotel for room recommendations. The taxi is about $200 from the airport, so I recommend you take the express train which is about $30.

I stayed there in May. The room will be very crowded with 4 people and the extra beds. I would suggest 2 rooms. A 17 year old is not considered a child by lodging companies. Ernest M Kraus Me and delCano Travel Consultants
