Detailed Reviews
Friendly staff on arrival, good bar, comfortable beds, clean, kitchen and facilities on the same floor, far away from Shibuya station but frequent local buses run and it takes about 5 minutes. Quite dorms, would stay here again. Would be good if they sell food, but not need as there are supermarkets nearby

My friends and I had a great stay at the wise owl hostel. Not the first, we booked a private room, it was just what you expected, not too far walking to Shibuya or ikejiri station, staff were friendly and helpful. Would book it again in the future.

Wow the best hostel in tokyo by far!!
The lodging is nice comfortable and well facilitate.
But the amazing thing is the staff and the manager, both so kind and friendly,
We had great crazy nights with them.
For people who look for other people to hang out with and injoy tokyo night life (very close to shibuya!!)

I really hate to write a negative review about Owl Hostel Shibuya since 99% of my stay there was positive and most of the staff were really great, but a really negative incident occurred literally just as my group were leaving the hostel for the airport that really ruined how I felt about our stay there. My friends and I started our 5 day stay at wise owl in one of the very large 30 person shared rooms since our privates weren’t available on the first night (stayed a total of 5 days). At some point I lost my limited edition adidas sweatshirt ($185 US) that I had bought right before the trip . I didn’t realize it until a day or so later and chalked it up to someone else taking it since they couldn’t find it in lost in found and I didn’t see it in any of the leftover clothes bins on each floor. Was really upset about it but didn’t want it to ruin my New Years or the rest of my stay in Japan.
But literally just as my friends and I checked out of the hostel to head to the airport, we were walking up the hill behind the building and I see a kid with my exact sweatshirt of mine walking down the hill past us. I couldn’t believe it and i gestured to my friends and pointed to it as he walked by, which he definitely noticed since he kept shifting back to look at us as he continued walking down at a slightly quicker pace. I didn’t want to be too presumptive so I waited to see if he went into the hostel to be 100% sure before I went back to talk to him, and sure enough he did . At this point I was actually really excited since I assumed another hostel guest just found it and would give it back when I asked him about it. I also had in the back of my mind that there was a very very slight possibility that this kid was from the states (only available in US) and had the exact same one, but this isn’t a common or generic Addidas sweatshirt by any means and had a very distinct style. When I finally did walk up to him he was at the front desk and had zipped up his jacket that he had over the sweatshirt (weird he did that right before he went inside the hostel since it was freezing outside and the hostel had the heater running on high...). I could tell he was really nervous when I approached him and English was his 2nd language. As I explained to him that I thought the sweatshirt was mine and asked him if he found it on the floor I was staying on, he flat out denied it. This is where one of the front desk girls chimed in and said that he was part of the cleaning staff of the hostel so he couldn’t have found it (??). This reasoning made no sense to me at all and made it even more likely in my head that it had to be mine since I was sure I had left it in my bed since I had slept in it the night i lost it. I pressed a bit more but he kept denying it and said it was his and the front desk girl was backing him up. I wish I had pressed harder and pushed the issue but we were running late for our flight and I didn’t want to be too accusatory in the hostel lobby in front of guests saying how unlikely it is that a member of the cleaning staff had a nearly $200 sweatshirt only available in the states (which I didn’t verify until I did research online later at the airport), which I had just lost in my bed that he probably cleaned just days before. But my politeness and the fact I was self conscious about coming off as some angry/entitled American accusing the cleaning staff of stealing got the better of me and I just left.
In hindsight, there was no way this guy was going to admit to taking it in front of the other staff since he might have got in trouble . Surprised he had the balls to wear it at the hostel he took it from but he probably assumed we had left since we checked out and moved into the private rooms on another floor. Really sucks because I had a great time at this hostel and our group spent nearly $2,200 US, which doesn’t include the amount we spent at the other Owl Hostel Tokyo on the first leg of our trips
I don’t want this to be a completely negative review since other than the above our stay was positive, so I will say this - the staff (specifically Ali) was extremely helpful in helping us modify our non-refundable booking that we made through Hostel World, to help us upgrade to private rooms after our first night stay and was just an overall awesome guy to chat with and ask for tips and help with things . The guys manning the bar were all very cool and welcoming. I really wish this could be a 5 star review like I intended it to be and like I left for the other Owl hostel Tokyo (much better option between the two fyi. So I guess I’d say it’s a good, social hostel that’s walking distance to the heart of shibuya but be careful with your belongings and the cleaning staff, especially since the lockers are very small and not very secure at all.
To management / Owners:
This occurred at around 1030am on January 2nd, 2020 and we stayed in the shared dorms from December 28th-29th (when I lost the sweatshirt). The member of the cleaning staff was tall (about 6’0”, maybe taller) and of darker complexion (Indian/middle eastern/ maybe South or central American) and didn’t speak English very well. Would love for the crew logs to be checked and i would be happy to update my review if you’re able to get and send back my lost sweatshirt since I’m not sure I’ll be able to find another one. Thank you .

Had a three night stay here in a bunk room. Small but has all you need. All facilities were very clean and free shampoo conditioner etc. It is in a great location - advisable to get a bus from Shibuya Station with luggage but otherwise walkable to the famous crossing without being too close so not too noisy in surrounding streets. The walls are thin so can hear adjoining rooms - to be expected in a hostel though. They provide towels daily for free and can also check in early for 1000 yen per person. Overall great service would definitely recommend.

This hostel has a great location ! About 15-20 mins walk from Shibuya station and famous crossing (which is a little longer than what they say - and a bit hard work if you have bags so many get a cab like I did ). Staff are super friendly , great for meeting new people !

My friend and I were in Tokyo for a week and needed a place that was clean, affordable and in a good location for exploring and Wise Owl Shibuya gave us just that.
The location is ideal. It's on the edge of Shibuya, which allows a short walk to all the restaurants, shopping, etc. you could want while being just far enough away to avoid the noise and crowds. It's also a moderate walk or short bus ride to the Shibuya Train Station. It was a great base camp for exploring Tokyo and making some day trips.
Tokyo is the safest major city on the planet, but I'll say it anyway, this location was in a very safe location. We walked in all directions at all hours and never found an unsafe area. The rooms have electronic locks and the whole area seemed fine for any age or gender.
We chose the small private room for our accommodations. It suited our needs as a place to sleep on a decent bed. If you choose this option, just be aware that small means small. There was just enough room for the bunk bed, a tiny sink and that's basically it. There's almost not enough room for two people to stand. We had to store our luggage at the opposite end of the bed under the window, which requires unpacking/packing on your actual bed. That might be a problem for some, but for us, we spent almost every waking hour in the city, so tight quarters weren't an issue. We didn't travel all the way to Japan just to stay in our hostel. There are small, lockable cabinets on each bed as well as a couple of outlets.
Everything was very clean, from the rooms to the bathrooms to the showers. Sheets were fine on the beds. Toilets and showers were clean. We never ran into any long lines trying to use the facilities at any point in the day. A towel was provided and they have shampoo/conditioner/body wash in the showers, though I suggest bringing your own wash cloth.
There's a small restaurant on the main floor. I never used it but my friend ordered a few things throughout the trip. We walked across the street to Lawson for a quick breakfast every morning and ate elsewhere for lunch and dinner.
The staff is all very friendly and helpful. They spoke english and were able to answer all of our questions.
I would highly recommend this hostel for anyone looking for a nice, affordable place to get some sleep while spending most of the day out in Tokyo.

Dear Guest, We would like to thank you for staying at WISE OWL HOSTELS SHIBUYA. We have read your comments about our hostel and we really appreciate that you took the time to write them. We hope you had great time during your stay here. Our hostel is not located in the center of Shibuya, and as you mentioned we think it is great distance to avoid Shibuya Noise and Crowds since one of our priorities is to provide safe and quiet place to our guest. This hostel is great! Such a good location in Shibuya, being a 10minute walk away from the hustle and bright lights of the centre (with a really fantastic Sushi restaurant on the walk back!). The hostel is really new so everything felt very clean. Was really good as my friend and I got top bunks which made it feel like our own space, as the layout of the bunks mean the top bunks open out onto each other and we liked this! Nice balcony and big showers/powder rooms. Only thing that would have made it better would be a large communal kitchen with a hob (there's only a kettle, microwave and fridge) but not essential when there are heaps of cheap restaurants about/FamilyMart on every corner. But overall is really fantastic and very reasonably priced for being so close to Shibuya.

This place is GREAT! We arrived on opening day by complete chance and were absolutely amazed with the place. Insanely beautiful (and clean) rooms and common spaces. The staff are beyond friendly and Management was extremely nice and helpful in accommodating us after we had messed up our booking in their other location. Rooms/beds come with all you would expect and more! (i.e slippers!) Walking distance to main shopping and restaurant areas in Shibuya as well.
My friends and I have been travelling through Japan for 2 weeks and this is the nicest place we have stayed by far.
Highly recommend!
