Naqalia Lodge is located on a family-owned and run island in the Yasawa Islands. This homestay-style experience was truly a stand out of all our travels EVER — so much so that I cried when we left. I couldn’t imagine leaving behind such untouched peace and serenity.

We couldn't believe the hospitality of the family, the beauty of the island, and the joy and love the family emanated each day.

The family sings together every night and the children are so pleasant and happy. We got to experience a traditional Lovo meal (food buried in a fire) and our first Kava ceremony. My partner went spearfishing with Josh who showed him all the best places to catch the best fish. The shark feeding was amazing! As was the village tour!

We snorkelled the insane coral reef each day right in front of our sweet multicoloured bure. The fish and marine life is amazing! Each night, after our huge dinner, we sat in candlelight once the generators were turned off and watched the ocean and stars from our porch.

The bure was so much cuter and spacious than expected. It felt like the perfect surf holiday style villa – warm salty breezes, lovely touches to the room. Sure, it's not 5–star, but I felt so comfortable and relaxed with comfy couches, beach chairs and hammocks everywhere. I loved the paintings in the rooms.

We were never expecting such an incredible experience. On our last night, sitting on the floor with the family to eat a delicious meal of fresh caught fish and home grown cassava while the family sang, laughed and played guitar together was the most humbling and deeply nourishing experience I've ever had.

So yes, I cried my eyes out when we left. And we will soooo be back.

We spent three nights here but wish we booked at least two more, and we'll be back each year. We had the place to ourselves while we were there and loved it. There's room for a few families at the same time, but I like that it's not a big place and it feels like a relaxation retreat. There are dorm beds if you're a solo traveller. We were surprised there was wifi at the main building, but to be honest we switched off the whole stay and didn't even want it. The rooms are cold water but you don't need hot. The more people who come to visit, the more money they will have for future renovations, so please support them to keep this wonderful island going and improving.

20/10 star rating! Thank you to Kula, Josh, Phillip, Aku, the incredible chef, and all the kids who made it so wonderful. I miss you so much Kula and can't wait to see you next year!

We stayed at Naqalia Lodge in late July 2022 as our last stop in our 1 week trip to Fiji. My partner and I agree that it was the highlight of our time in Fiji! We stayed for 3 days (2 nights) and found the whole family to be very welcoming and accommodating. We were told on arrival that Naqalia is family run and they want us to feel like we were part of the family. This definitely shone through, and we found the lodge to be the most authentic experience of our trip.

As noted on previous posts, due to the COVID-19 pandemic some aspects of the accommodation did require some maintenance and electricity was only available in the main area at night. With this in mind, we found the accommodation to be clean, spacious and tidy. Given the beautiful surroundings and variety of activities, we found our need for electricity was pretty minimal. If you bring a portable charger for phones there shouldn’t be any issues. All meals provided were made fresh and were really delicious. The food was plentiful and in particular it was great being able to try some local Fijian dishes.

They organised a number of activities for us while we were there and were very flexible with the timings. These included: shark feeding and swimming, a sunrise hike, village and school trip, lovo and kava ceremony, bracelet making and snorkelling. There are numerous hammocks on the beach to relax and just 15m off the beach is a really lovely reef with a variety of marine life!

Aku, Phillip, Josh and the whole family thank you again for having us and making our time in Fiji so special. We loved being part of the Naqalia Family and are keen to come back in the future!

We wanted somewhere for Xmas and fancy resorts aren't really our style. Naqalia Lodge is simple with four bures and a bunkhouse. One extended family services the visitors. The food is excellent (included in the price) but you get what is cooked for that meal. If you have dietary requirement's you might need to talk before booking. You are welcomed and soon become part of the family. There is fine snorkelling off the beach and a range of activities can be arranged. Overall an excellent small scale stay with friendly Fijian hospitality. Be aware the cost of the ferry can be a shock. It is very expensive.

I booked Naqalia Lodge for a relaxing getaway, but I regret choosing this place. The lodge was nothing like what they advertised on their website or booking. The rooms were dirty, small and poorly maintained. The beds were uncomfortable and the sheets had stains. The bathroom had no hot water and the shower was broken.
The food was bland, limited in variety and leftovers were served at every meal.

The staff was rude, unprofessional and unhelpful. They ignored my requests and complaints, and tried to charge me extra for everything. They also lied to me about the activities they offered. They said they had kayaking, village tours and shark feeding, but when I wanted to book them, they said they were not available or too expensive.

The worst part was that the lodge was located in a remote area with no other options nearby. I felt trapped and bored for the whole stay. I couldn’t enjoy the beach or the snorkeling because the water was murky and full of rubbish. I couldn’t even get a decent internet connection or phone signal.

I wasted my time and money at this place. It was a nightmare. I do not recommend Naqalia Lodge to anyone who wants a pleasant holiday in Fiji.

We (2 adults) stayed at Naqalia for 4 nights in February. Our first visit to Fijian Islands and wanted a more 'traditional' experience. We certainly found that here. Very welcoming (singing to us from beach on arrival and departure), good variety and quantity of typical Indo-Fijian food, friendly family-owned and run business. Solar powered bures so not always electricity in them when cloudy (main lodge has generator backup for charging phones etc if needed). The bures are all similarly sized, with comfortable bed but furnishings are clearly showing their age as well as the bures need some maintenance (updated plumbing, painting, etc). Kayaks were unusable. We are certain this lodge will be brought back to a higher standard once tourism revenue picks up (difficult to perform maintenance with no cash during covid). Excellent 'house reef' for snorkelling right off the beach. Internet in main lodge was quite weak/intermittent.

This was our last place to stay in Fiji after visiting a few other islands. Definitely our favorite. If you want to get away from the "American owned resorts" serving you fries and burgers and looking for a more quiet and personal spot, this is definitely the best choice. Aku, captain Phillip, Josh and all the family working there were so welcoming. They arranged many activities for us (including walks, snorkeling and swimming with the sharks!), cooked local food and showed us around. We learned so much about Fijian traditions and culture. They took us in as part of their family and I will never forget the experience, even though we only stayed there 3 nights.

We will never forget you "Vinaka vakalevu"

We stayed for about a week at Naqalia. It was great and absolutely relaxing. The lodge is run by a Fijian family from the village, which is about 20 minutes walking away. You really feel like you are part of the family, without them being infringing on your privacy. The whole family is really working hard to make your stay memorable and provide a wonderful introduction into Fijian culture. Definitely take advantage of their local expertise. The mountain climb and Sunday church visit should not be missed. The snorkeling on the reef was spectacular and the home-cooked food delicious. The perfect place to wind down.

Really lovely place. The family really appreciate you joining them their family. The food was very tasty, much nicer than what we had in another stay.
The accomodation is very basic so be prepared for this. But we felt the family made up for it with their very welcoming energy.

Really wonderful stay, the hosting family is lovely and helpful. Meals are cooked for you and very good. Visit of school, shark feeding and kava cérémonie were great also. Do not miss the opportunity to spend a couple of nights there, you could hardly be closer to heaven. Plus, they absolutely love kids!
