The owners, Sara and Andrea helped us to organize a little excursion our little ones with donkeys around the old town. They were super excited and happy to have this experience! We even met the Befana!
Overall I would say that the stay at Il Palazzo was super recommended!
Overall the experienc
Delicious culinary offerings (we ate the best lamb ever.)
They made us feel at home. Highly recommended! We'll be back !!
Breakfast was fresh with a good selection. Dinner was just great with typical dishes of Abruzzo!
Santo Stefano di Sessanio is beautiful and the surrounding area is perfect for hiking. We would have liked to stay longer....
Highly recommended as a base for exploring Campo Imperatore.
We waited to be seated... And waited some more until finally the waitress finished her conversation with other diners. She spoke good english and showed us to a table.
15 minutes later we still hadn't been given a menu, never mind asked what we'd like to drink. We had to raise our voices to call over a waiter, possibly the owner, who brought one. After another wait we ordered a simple meal, water, wine and pizza with the first waitress.
After about 15 mins, the drinks had not arrived, so we tried to get the waitress' attention but she was studied in the art of avoiding eye contact whilst she entertaied the other diners with conversation.
We had a wager on whether our drinks would arrive before the food or with it. Neither guessed the actual outcome - that the drinks would not come at all. Getting anyone's attention was impossible from our table so we ate up and went to the till to pay. The pizzas were very average, nothing special.
The waitress seemed hesitant when adding up the bill, when I pointed out we hadn't received any drinks she muttered something and added on the cover charge. No apology or embarassment. Yes we should have refused to pay it but we're british!
In summary, great surroundings, terrible attitude and service. Steer clear.
After dinner, Mario gave us a detailed tour of all the guest accommodations. It was mind boggling the amount of work and time and LOVE that went into the planning and presentation of each and every guest room of Il Palazzo. No expense was spared to make us feel welcome and sated.
My only criticism would be the service - the young man who was at reception when we arrived seemed a bit non plussed and again when we went to check out, he was chatting to some friends or other guests in Italian and barely acknowledged our presence. We'd just come from somewhere where the service was top notch so that probably didn't help. This place has lots of potential - they just need to tweak a few things...
