I stayed in the Palazzo only for one night. We arrived just to find a simple yet very clean, luminous and warn room, with a view of the town Santo Stefano di Sessanio. We had dinner at the restaurant. Everything was perfect, from the antipasto, first and second dish was impeccable. The only thing was the portion was generous and abundant, so we actually didn't want to have the second dish. But the owner insisted to give us a small piece to taste, and voila! We changed our mind! The lamb steak was a excellent! We ended up to order another portion!
The owners, Sara and Andrea helped us to organize a little excursion our little ones with donkeys around the old town. They were super excited and happy to have this experience! We even met the Befana!
Overall I would say that the stay at Il Palazzo was super recommended!

We had a unique experience in the il palazzo residence: beautiful, comfortable and well-equipped rooms, the owners' willingness to fulfill any of our requests (and we were quite demanding)
Delicious culinary offerings (we ate the best lamb ever.)
They made us feel at home. Highly recommended! We'll be back !!

On a holiday in Abruzzo you cannot miss a stop in Santo Stefano di Sessanio, a splendid medieval village. And here we stayed in this historic and fascinating residence. The large and comfortable room with a view of the village, the splendid dinners respecting the best traditions of Abruzzo, and the friendliness and kindness of the owner Andrea gave us a stay to remember and recommend.

There were two of us, eager for a plate of the famous Santo Stefano lentils. After being invited to enter, and after having had confirmation of the availability of seats, upon the arrival of a poor man who was looking for 15 available seats (through no fault of course), we were invited to take a tour of the historic center while waiting that positions were freed up. Do you eat well? I don't know, I didn't have the chance, certainly the professionalism was missing.

We returned for the second time to this place where it feels a bit at home. The Borgo di Santo Stefano is breathtaking and the plateau just above offers scenery between Mongolia and Tibet that will capture your heart. The owner Andrea is a kind person, always present and never intrusive. The super comfortable beds and the restaurant not to be missed... crazy lamb ragù... It is located in front of the village, it is a beautiful stone structure in the style of an ancient post office or old inn with large vaults.

We spent 3 days at the II Palazzo and enjoyed it very much. The room was big, the bed was comfortable. It was quiet and clean. The bathroom was also very nice. The owners and service staff were very friendly and attentive.
Breakfast was fresh with a good selection. Dinner was just great with typical dishes of Abruzzo!
Santo Stefano di Sessanio is beautiful and the surrounding area is perfect for hiking. We would have liked to stay longer....

FABULOUS! Also perfect for a traveling group. I organized dinner and overnight stay here for a group of 16 people for work. Superlative hospitality, location and beautiful rooms that left all guests enchanted. And superlative food.
Highly recommended as a base for exploring Campo Imperatore.

Il Palazzo is just out of Santo Stefano on the road to Calascio. We called in here one evening for a pizza. Initial impressions were great - a beautifully restored, large airy space in an old building, soft lights, smart table linen, very romantic.

We waited to be seated... And waited some more until finally the waitress finished her conversation with other diners. She spoke good english and showed us to a table.

15 minutes later we still hadn't been given a menu, never mind asked what we'd like to drink. We had to raise our voices to call over a waiter, possibly the owner, who brought one. After another wait we ordered a simple meal, water, wine and pizza with the first waitress.
After about 15 mins, the drinks had not arrived, so we tried to get the waitress' attention but she was studied in the art of avoiding eye contact whilst she entertaied the other diners with conversation.

We had a wager on whether our drinks would arrive before the food or with it. Neither guessed the actual outcome - that the drinks would not come at all. Getting anyone's attention was impossible from our table so we ate up and went to the till to pay. The pizzas were very average, nothing special.

The waitress seemed hesitant when adding up the bill, when I pointed out we hadn't received any drinks she muttered something and added on the cover charge. No apology or embarassment. Yes we should have refused to pay it but we're british!

In summary, great surroundings, terrible attitude and service. Steer clear.

While we were in Italy in May, we stayed in my Father's town of St Stefano di Sessanio at the Villa Valsi. Il Palazzo was situated a couple of doors down from Villa Valsi. The owner of Il Palazzo, Mario Ciarrocca, was most attentive to all our needs and wants as he prepared a delicious dinner for me and my three children. We enjoyed the most delicious Anti-pasto of fresh cheeses, homemade Olive Oil and crusty bread followed by Lentil soup with lentils from his own garden. The next course was absolutely the most wonderful Ravioli made with tender silky pasta that melted in your mouth, draped with a rich and buttery white cream sauce garnished with flecks of saffron. We could not have asked for a more amazing dining experience. The wine with each course was perfect, the service was impeccable, and the food -well-we will remember it for a lifetime. This restaurant comes with my highest recommendation for restaurants anywhere that I have traveled. I long to return to Il Palazzo to sit and enjoy more of Mario's culinary creations. It would be a perfect setting for a romantic couple, or family dining.
After dinner, Mario gave us a detailed tour of all the guest accommodations. It was mind boggling the amount of work and time and LOVE that went into the planning and presentation of each and every guest room of Il Palazzo. No expense was spared to make us feel welcome and sated.

The building itself is beautiful and the room we were in was beautiful, and very comfortable. it is in a great location just outside the walls of the old town and a great base for walking.
My only criticism would be the service - the young man who was at reception when we arrived seemed a bit non plussed and again when we went to check out, he was chatting to some friends or other guests in Italian and barely acknowledged our presence. We'd just come from somewhere where the service was top notch so that probably didn't help. This place has lots of potential - they just need to tweak a few things...
