Detailed Reviews
Stunning and very peaceful place! My dad and I spent a few nights at Villa Valsi, it was a terrific experience under many aspects. Our apartment was cozy, warm, and very comfortable, as well as provided with all the amenities you may need. The place is lovely, surrounded by green areas and just a few minutes from the Medieval town of Santo Stefano di Sessanio, a true little gem in Abruzzo. The owner, Rita, and her husband, Paul, were extremely helpful and generous, also providing us with great information about where to eat and spend the best of our few days in Abruzzo. Villa Valsi is also perfectly located: from here you can easily reach many sites, including L'Aquila, Bominaco, and Rocca Calascio. Thanks so much Rita and Paul for making us feeling like at home! It was a terrific experience and we look forward to coming back!

This was our second time staying at Villa Valsi. The owner, Rita, made us feel welcome as if we were returning family. The property is in a beautiful setting, very well maintained, and located a short walk from the charming and historic hill town of Santo Stefano. Our apartment was very comfortable, complete with extra blankets and breakfast snacks, and Rita made sure to follow up with us to make sure that everything else was satisfactory. We look forward to returning.

I stayed for 6 nights in an apartment of the Residence, with my husband and my two dogs. We had a great time. The apartment was very clean on my arrival, well maintained and equipped with everything you need to base to be able to cook. Mrs. Rita, owner of the Residence, was always with us very helpful and kind.
In that place there was silence and great peace. Perfect for those who appreciate relaxation and tranquility during their holidays. Various excursions for mountain and nature lovers depart from the village and the surrounding villages.
In the nearby town of Barisciano then there is an excellent butcher, for those who love good meat like us.
Highly Recommendation.
I hope to be back soon.

Perfect location. Recently renovated old house very quiet and fresh. Impeccable cleanliness. Apartment equipped with all comforts.
Strategic position both for emperor camp and for all the villages to visit. Host , Mrs. Rita very friendly welcoming and helpful.
If I return to the area I will definitely choose Villa Valsi.
Thank you Marina

+1
What a treat to discover this charming villa in a perfect location for exploring family heritage, wandering historic villages, and walking the wilds of Gran Sasso and Campo Imperatore. The second floor apartment was spacious and scrupulously clean, with high ceilings to accommodate the loft and gorgeous views from both balconies at the front and from the lawn/patio area at the rear entrance. We especially appreciated Rita's many kindnesses -- stocking the fridge and the fruit bowl, making helpful suggestions for dining and local sights, sharing her family's history. She made our visit to Abruzzo a joy from the very first email exchange, and we look forward to returning to Villa Valsi's peace and tranquility next year.

We've just departed Santo Stefano following our second stay at Villa Valsi. Warm surroundings, authentic but extremely comfortable furnishings, cool mountain air, brilliant sunshine, quiet, relaxing - and located in one of the most beautiful, but lesser known, regions of Italy. Rita Visioni, the owner and host, is one of our favorite people. She has lovingly restored her grandparents' home and has turned it into a home-away-from-home for travelers arriving from all parts of the world: Italians, Americans, Germans, Dutch, and so on. She told us during our stay that the family in the apartment below ours has booked 2-3 weeks every year for the past 6 or 7 years. Their beautiful young daughter was not even born when they first stayed at the Villa Valsi several years ago. Return guests are the best testimony. And we'll be among them. I haven't slept better in weeks!

How delighted we were to find this special corner of Abruzzo! We have been visiting Villa Valsi for many summers now, bringing friends with us and making new ones there.
Once the family home of Rita’s grandparents, Residence Villa Valsi has been restored with love and cleverly restructured into five apartments. Each apartment has its own character and is furnished with a mix of antiques and contemporary conveniences: well-stocked kitchen areas, comfortable beds with crisp linens, modern bathrooms, everything sparkling clean.
Our favorite apartment is Il Soppalco on the top floor, featuring its own terrace on a semi-private garden that is shared with only one other apartment – perfect for multiple families traveling together. And the views! I love to make coffee early in the morning, greeting the day from our kitchen balcony as the sun rises on the hills and medieval village before us. Then off we go: maybe a walk from our front door to the epic Rocca Calascio fortress, or a trek up one of the spectacular Gran Sasso peaks, or a tour to discover more of the “borghi più belli d’Italia” like Santo Stefano.
On arrival, Rita greets us with a freshly baked cake, bowl of fruit and fridge stocked with basic breakfast goodies. She has great insider tips on local sights and events, and she’s happy to make restaurant recommendations and reservations. She’s also helpful to those of us struggling to improve our Italian language skills… 😊
We wish we had more stars to award Villa Valsi, which is so much more to us now than just an accommodation. It’s one of our happy places, where we go to truly relax, enjoy life, and treasure the friendship of Rita and her family. A presto!

A three day stay with my son. Rooms large and clean. Comfortable bed. A full kitchen allowed Rita (the owner) to arrange a cooking lesson for us. Local came in and made gnocchi with a cream/saffron sauce and an egg pasta with a simple tomato/sausage sauce. We have since duplicated both recipes. The hotel is convent to hiking trails (including one to Rocca Calasio which at 1500 meters is one of the highest medieval forts in Italy), and to the old town of Santo Stefano. Price for the apartment was reasonable. A plus is a strong wifi signal in the room.
Breakfast is do-it-yourself but Rita left more than enough food (including coffee, juice, milk, etc) for a simple breakfast as the Italians do.

A work colleague and I shared one of Rita's apartments for one night whilst attending a conference at the nearby Albergo Sextantio. It was just what we needed and extremely good value. Comfortable, warm (we had unseasonably cold weather and Rita didn't hesitate in jacking up the heating for us) and welcoming with some uniquely Italian touches. For those from the UK and elsewhere who are unfamiliar with the B&B apartment concept, you do your own breakfast with provisions left in the kitchen for you - there is no communal dining area. This means that you can do your own thing in your own time and in your pyjamas. Note that local legislation dictates that all food served must be 'pre-confezionato' i.e. in sealed packages so don't be disappointed if this is what you get. It's a hygiene rule designed to protect the guest against food prepared in an unregulated kitchen and perhaps seems a little strange to those of us who expect a full fry-up. It's just the Italian way and Rita does it exceptionally well. To be recommended.

"The rooms are all lovely. It just depends on how many are in your group. There is one room that has a loft room with twin beds, perfect for older children or teenagers, with another bedroom below it, for parents. Another apartment has the bedrooms side by side, both with gorgeous views out the double doors onto small balconies, one bedroom with a "matrimonial" bed as they call it in Italy, the other with 2 twin beds. There are also smaller apartments with matrimonial beds, one a 'studio' apartment, the other with a bedroom and separate living area. All are beautifully furnished, comfortable, and clean."Read full review
