Nestled among vineyards, Les Sources de Caudalie hotel garners praise for its serene atmosphere, a harmonious blend of modern and traditional design that extends to the spacious and well-furnished rooms. The hotel's amenities, such as the luxurious spa, wildlife pond, and nature trails, are frequently lauded, although service inconsistencies have been noted.
While the attentive and friendly staff have enhanced many stays, others have experienced unhelpful service. Despite the hotel's beauty, some guests feel that the value is compromised by the high costs and occasional service lapses.

Detailed Reviews
This was about our 8th visit to this hotel which shows how much we like it! Set in the most beautiful (and very highly rated) Smith Haut Lafitte vineyards just south of Bordeaux it makes a bucolic break for both families and couples. The food at the 2nd restaurant, Le Lavoir, has improved greatly and is less heavy than before, with daily specials and sitting there by the little stream is a wonderful experience. At the moment the gastronomic 2 Michelin star restaurant is only offering a tasting menu, which of course took a very long time and the costs mount up very considerably once you add wine - they need to be careful that the experience is matching the price... All the rooms are very well maintained and tastefully and interestingly furnished - no 80s chintz here!
I do highly recommend staying here for so many reasons (brilliant children's playroom, outdoor and indoor pools, watching the ducks on the lake, relaxing ambience and very beautiful countryside) but there are some things which the owners do need to pay attention to and not take their customers for granted. For example even though we had stayed many times we were repeatedly asked if we wanted a map or to be shown round, there was no welcome card in the room, as there had been before, and there was no evidence of any management. There seems to be a lack of communication and perhaps their reservation systems need updating! There was a shortage of towels by the swimming pool, and no glasses for the water container (which was in any case empty most of the time). They have a new system which means that you can only use the Spa pool if you have booked a package of treatments on one single day - I had booked just one treatment on several different days so could not use it at all which was irritating as it was empty. That is something to consider as a resident... So it is nearly perfect but with some elements that one does not expect in a very high end property like this.

Responded 25 Sept 2021
Dear Helen P, Thank you again for choosing Les Sources de Caudalie for your stay and for taking the time to share your experience with us. We are delighted to read that you have once again enjoyed our facilities and our beautiful and relaxing vineyards! We sincerely apologize for not being attentive enough in regards to the shortage of towels and glasses by the swimming pool at the time you went there to relax. In order to guarantee the tranquility of our guests, the access to the Caudalie Vinotherapy Spa facilities (thermal bath, steam room and jacuzzi) is complimentary to guests who have booked an 80-minute treatment or more. For the other spa guests, it is accessible at an additional charge. This said, we wish to inform you that you can always enjoy our indoor swimming pool heated at 30 degrees, our 25 meters long outdoor swimming pool and our outdoor jacuzzi, all accessible from 8am to 8pm, every day of the week. We are looking forward to welcoming you back very soon in the heart of our vineyards for another enchanting stay. Thank you for your loyalty! Sincerely yours, Romain Tarate, Rooms Division Manager

Stayed here to celebrate a special birthday for 2 nights and was not disappointed. Staff were excellent from the moment we arrived. All were professional, friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. There has been a renovation of the public areas and rooms that only opened in April, so I was privileged to be one of the first guests to enjoy the pristine new interiors. Our room was stunning, overlooking the vineyards towards the Smith Haute Lafitte winery.
We ate at both the Table du Lavoir and the La Grande Vigne restaurants. The Table du Lavoir is more casual, but the food is still amazing quality and the service second to none. The La Grande Vigne tasting menu was outstanding, with every course beautifully presented at the table.
We took bikes out for an hour (the hotel has a map with a couple of recommended routes) so it was great to see a few of the other nearby chateaux. Other than that we just wanted to relax, recharge and enjoy the experience.

The property is beautiful and our suite was very well appointed in a very modern style.
We both had spa testaments and they were extremely good.
There is a delightful walk through the woods with many surprising and fun elements.
However there were some issues.
The wine tasting is very expensive , usually wine tastings at a property are free. They should at least offer a discount for residents.
We ate at Le Table and for starters we had the trout carpaccio - there was an overriding smell of fish to dish. I alerted the waiter who did not appear overly concerned. He advised that he would let the kitchen know , we did not hear anything further.
Breakfast was a buffet and also a disappointment, most of the offering was running low or finished altogether. Pit of penny pinching here from the hotel as the food should always be fully stocked.
Overall a bit of a mixed bag , the restaurants let the property down sadly.

We had a terrible experience at this hotel that demonstrates its poor management, largely incompetent staff, and utter lack of customer service. I’ll focus on the major issues- ahead of arrival, the hotel did not communicate how many of the facilities were closed due to COVID-19 (nor was it indicated on their website). Only one of the three restaurants was operating and we couldn’t get reservations there for each night of our stay (problematic because there are no other restaurants in the immediate area). Guests were only able to reserve gym access by hiring their private trainer for 70 euros an hour. The spa—the main draw of the estate—was almost fully booked and we were unable to get the services we wanted (most hotels of this caliber call you beforehand to make sure their guests can benefit from their facilities versus the public). Examples of other issues that were very surprising for a five star hotel- the reception called early in the morning to ask a question about room cleaning, waking us up. There were many times throughout the visit where the front desk did not pick up our phone calls, making it necessary for us to walk to the desk (you had to contact the desk to make reservations for the pool, tennis court, etc). On the final bill, we were wrongly charged for multiple items, which we luckily realized and got corrected. We did manage to get a booking for massages at the end of our stay, and were extremely disappointed in the spa as well. When we booked the massages, we were told (and saw in the brochure) that they would be 120 euros each and that use of the steam room and hammam were included. When we arrived for treatment, they did not give us the option to choose the type of massage as indicated in their brochure, tried to charge 125 euros for each massage (contrary to the price in the brochure), and also charged an additional 40 euros per person to access the hammam and steam room. Ultimately, the only thing they did to correct the situation was to refund us the 10 euros we were wrongly charged. The estate is beautiful but the level of customer service and management is appalling, especially considering the cost. We do not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Simply put, this is one of our favorite properties in the world. As both wine and food lovers, Caudalie has a special place in our hearts and we do our best to visit at least every couple years.
The best word I can use to describe the property is, enchanting. From the second you enter the grounds, it feels like any residual stress from the outside world is magically lifted from your shoulders.
Caudalie has a unique ability to simultaneously trigger all of your senses. The property is pristine with manicured gardens, rustic architecture, and vineyards within every line of sight, while the honeysuckle aromas and sounds of nature create a delighting oasis.
There is a surprisingly wide array of food options, ranging from small plates at Rogue to a two Michelin star gastronomic experience at La Grand’Vigne. Not to mention the daily breakfast with a never ending selection of fresh fruit, meats, and pastries.
In terms of wine (likely the reason you decided on Bordeaux), you truly get the best of both worlds. The hotel is situated in the vineyards of Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte in the Pessac-Leognan appellation and is just a short drive to the most famous chateaus in the world across both the left and right banks of the Bordeaux region.

Overall whilst expensive, a wonderful hotel and experience overall. The hotel staff were very helpful, rooms lovely, pool area very good and facilities like the use of bikes, walks and tennis great. The Michelin restaurant was expensive but excellent. We did eat in the bistro on another night and whilst one of our two meals was very good, the service was poor (to the point where our plates had been left on the table so long we stacked and moved them away ourselves) and the Charolais beef dish despite the fairly high price tag was very poor and almost inedible (chewy beef with a few dry potatoes on the side). We were also overcharged for a glass of wine which after raising they did rectify. But apart from the bistro, I would definitely return.

Situated in Graves, 20 minutes drive from Bordeaux, nestling amongst the vineyards of Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte, is a magical retreat.
With an indoor pool, an outdoor pool, an outstanding spa, a Michelin starred restaurant, a superb second restaurant and a wine bar, this property is one of the best we have experienced.
The rooms are spread throughout beautiful buildings in the grounds. They are all superbly decorated with a mixture of contemporary and traditional. Use is made of the ubiquitous oak wood, most if not all of the food and wine is either grown on site or locally sourced.
Wines are local, including of course from the Chateau.
An elegant mix of casual and formal styles throughout.
Whether you come for the comfort of the body or the mind, you will find it here.
Summer in the vineyard is beautiful with ever changing light enhancing the colours, and be sure to take a walk in the Forest of the Senses, just across the road where artists exhibit in the woods.
Take a bicycle ride around the area, a tour of the winery and vineyard, just sit and enjoy the ambience - whatever you want you will find here.
Pricing is what you expect for an outstanding property with superb service, location, food and accommodation, but definitely worth it.

The buildings and facilities are wonderful. Beautiful. However the quality of service run short of expectations. Lack of capacity to have lunch or dinner is an issue. The quality of food at Rouge bar is dismal and breakfast falls short of any 2-star hotel.

This is a beautiful hotel in a peaceful setting with outstanding grounds.
We stayed in a junior suite which was rustic and quaint, near the lake. Not all rooms are in the main hotel and a walk away from facilities, so it is worth checking when booking.
The outdoor pool was great for cooling down on hot days. I would recommend doing the art trail and jogging route too.
The 7 course Michelin taster menu was average(and we’ve had a few Michelin experiences), although we thoroughly enjoyed the less formal but more wholesome French cuisine at La Table du Lavoir. The rouge wine bar is great for small plates and wine.
The downside’s of this stay was the wedding that took president over general guests. The Wine bar not in use on one evening to host a party that went on until midnight and was very close to our accommodation.
We booked an excursion through the hotel as part of our honeymoon (months in advance ) despite asking them to check the details on arrival, we never heard back and the local company did not come and collect us. We missed out on a full day electric bike tour and disappointed as this was the last day of our stay and a wedding gift from our parents.
On arrival the weather was bad and we were ushered towards the wine bar and not aware of other facilities we could have used instead.
In summary a lovely hotel, lacking in service and should not mix wedding and hotel guests together.

I am so sad to write this review as I was so looking forward to our visit here. The service from the beginning was poor. They delayed getting us into our rooms by over 2 hours even though check in was stated at 3:30pm. They offered to seat us in an unused (very small) room to wait but as there were 5 of us, it was very crowded, particularly since it was 40 degrees that day. When I asked regarding the checkin, I was given impatient responses that there were technical issues for our two rooms. The reception staff behaved as if they were doing us a favor at every moment. Room service took over an hour and a half and we had to ring several times. It is a shame as the spa and the surroundings are great. The food in the restaurants is divine but the service was so much of a let down given the price that I would never recommend this spa.

Responded 25 Oct 2023
Dear Guest, We want to extend our sincerest apologies for the disappointing experience you encountered during your recent visit to our establishment. Your feedback is invaluable to us, and we are genuinely sorry for the inconveniences you faced. First and foremost, we deeply regret the extended wait during the check-in process. Such delays are inexcusable, and we understand that it had a negative impact on your experience, particularly considering the uncomfortable weather conditions that day, this is not the level of service we aspire to provide, and we will address this with our team immediately. The prolonged wait for room service is also unacceptable, and we're sorry that it took multiple calls to resolve. This falls far short of our usual standards, and we appreciate your patience in this matter. We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed the spa facilities and the beautiful surroundings, as well as the quality of our restaurants. However, we are acutely aware that service lapses marred your overall impression, which is deeply regrettable. Rest assured, we take your comments to heart and will be taking swift action to address the issues you raised. We are committed to providing a seamless and exceptional experience for all our guests. If you decide to return, please do not hesitate to contact us directly, and we will ensure your next visit exceeds your expectations. Warm regards, Les Sources de Caudalie

Hello Janet,
Im sorry but I can't tell. My room wasn't a connecting one. Best thing is to contact the hotel management and ask them.
I do not know, but don't think so.
Most Certainly ! a child would be delighted in this warm rambling environment in the lap of nature. One watchout- Don't leave little children unattended. There are pools of water which could be a risk to little children if not accompanied by an adult
