Cameron House on Loch Lomond captivates many guests with its stunning location and the comfort of its rooms, which boast impressive views. However, some travelers express disappointment, citing rooms that could benefit from better cleanliness and maintenance. While the atmosphere is generally praised for its beauty, the presence of noisy events can occasionally mar the experience.
The hotel's amenities, including a spa and dining options, are well-received despite occasional service hiccups. Although the staff is commended for their professionalism, service can be hit-or-miss, and the value proposition is questioned by guests who expect more for the premium pricing.

Plenty of free car parking and the quite recent addition of 8 EV chargers in car park 1 (chargeable see chargers for details).
Reception welcome was functional rather than warm. My room was in the modern vast extension and was modern, fresh, spacious, light and comfortable. Everything needed was there and the bed was so comfortable. Shower (no bath on reflection) was powerful rainshower style. And, naturally, based on location the night was peaceful and the blackout curtains worked a treat.
Complimentary bottled water and payable mini bar only filled up by request.
I could see the leisure area including pool and it all looked very nice. Also the bar was a lovely place with external balcony.
Breakfast next morning in the grill was excellent and, as I was a bit early as needed to get away, was able to pick from what was available a little ahead of opening.
Checkout was fast and easy.
Definitely a significant premium to come here, partly location led but also reflective of premium product.

Overall, our experience at Cameron House was exquisite. We had chosen to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary here having gotten engaged 11 years prior on the banks of the Loch just outside. When we arrived, there was an issue with our booking as Jack was unable to locate it on the system. I explained I had called after the initial booking and the reservation staff couldn't locate it due 5pm only opening an extra few dates that had yet to feed through the system. I thought by phoning ahead of time that the issue would be resolved but, unfortunately this wasn't the case. Jack was very apologetic and immediately offered us some drinks vouchers to use whilst our room was being prepared. We happily accepted this resolution. After enjoying our drinks we returned to reception to be checked in by Lynn. It was at this time that we discovered that the initial reservation team that I had spoken with on the phone weeks before had booked our dinner reservation with the wrong restaurant. We had perused the menus previously and had opted for La Vista due to the cuisine and location. We were unable to get a table at the same time and had to hope that Jack could get a time as close to 8 as possible. Again, Jack managed to sort things out for us.
Although these two issues were stressful at the time, they were handled well and we were able to overcome the less than perfect arrival.
Upon entering our room we were greeted by an inviting ice bucket with a bottle of prosecco and a perfect temperature. The room was exactly as we expected Cameron House to be. Not much further comment is needed as it was the perfect room.
La Vista is quite the hidden gem for Cameron House. Having an authentic Italian restaurant on the doorstep with fresh pasta was ideal not to mention the beautiful view. Each course was sublime and we would hurry back! Our server was attentive and answered any questions we had about the food.
Heading back along to the hotel we took a detour to the spot of our engagement and ventured into the Loch up to our knees! We popped into the Scotsman bar for a nightcap as this was were we had celebratory drinks for our engagement and it was a lovely way to end our evening.
Breakfast at Cameron House is an event in itself. In a word, sublime. To be greeted with open bottles of champagne to make my own morning mimosas elevated the whole experience. Normally, with buffet breakfasts, the quality of the produce is compromised, but not at Cameron House. I could even tell that the butter is made fresh! It was quite simply the best hotel breakfast experience we have had!
To say that we will he rushing back is an understatement. Unfortunately for our bank balance, we will be visiting again as soon as we can.
Jack greeted us upon our initial arrival and when a problem arose, he immediately found solutions and removed barriers and disappointment for us. In addition to this, he offered us complimentary drinks without us having to express any discontentment. This is something that you would expect of a 5 star establishment and why Cameron House, quite rightly, has 5 stars.

We had a room with a view of the Loch, the view was amazing but the room was average. The knob on the shower was broken but when we reported it maintenance came and fixed it straight away. The Cameron grill service and food were excellent and so it should have been for the price. The only other places to eat were the Tavern pub or La Vista an Italian restaurant, which was not in the hotel building but within its grounds. When we went to the pub which was Saturday evening, no one was able to find a food menu for us. This was because the pub was understaffed, so people were queuing to order food as well as queues for drinks. We decided to try La Vista which was booked up. We ended up having room service. We decided that for the next 2 days before going home we would eat out. Why not have somewhere else in the hotel to eat other than the very expensive Cameron Grill or the uninviting, understaffed pub. The breakfast buffet was fine but if you do order anything from the breakfast menu there will be a service charge on top of the cost!! The staff were amazing but of course this is a 5 star hotel.

How bad can the service in one place get? Went to La Vista, the new 'Boathouse' restaurant at Cameron House with my wife and another couple on a Saturday afternoon. First of all we ordered 4 drinks after being shown to our table. 15 mins later my wife and I received our drinks but our friends did not. 10 minutes after this, we finally managed to attract the attention of a waiter who went to investigate the location of the missing two drinks. On his return, he casually informed us that the brand of the two missing bottles of beers was not available. When were they going to inform us of this? On selecting an alternative brand these then eventually turned up as my wife and I were finishing our first drinks. Food arrived and we ordered another round of drinks. When these arrived the waiter proceeded to take one of the drinks off his tray causing the tray to tip and a full bottle of beer to crash onto the table spilling the entire contents onto the table and over myself. After being assured by the staff that the spilled bottle of beer would be replaced free of charge (thanks for the generosity!) we eventually finished our meals and spent another 15 minutes trying to attract the attention of the waiters (who appeared to be holding some sort of impromptu Youth Club at the tills) so that we could pay the bill. Another 10 - 15 minute delay before anyone brought the bill (after another prompt). Predictably, the bill was wrong causing another delay while it was rectified. The venue is dog friendly and we are all dog owners but there was an off lead dog randomly wandering about the tables with no attempt by the staff to find its owner. We finally left. As we were walking out the door, the same waiter who had dropped the beer dropped another bottle from his tray onto the floor. I like to finish on a positive note though and at least this second bottle didn't spill its content onto us, we did get one free bottle of beer and the food was actually outstanding. I've never worked in hospitality but I would like to assume that an alleged 5* venue would have some sort of organisation and training in running a restaurant. Maybe I'm mistaken. No doubt this review will get the standard cut and paste response from the Management. If someone was writing a comedy episode of a restaurant experience this would have been it

My wife and I and two other couples booked three nights at Cameron House in order to walk the lower section of the West Highland Way. We made the booking nearly a year in advance. The room rate given to us was I have to say very high but as we were part of a party we did not wish to stay elsewhere and so paid our deposit and looked forward to a 5* experience befitting a nightly rate that was I have to say at the very top end. Sadly this hotel in our opinion does not offer anything near what we would have expected for such a high price. The setting on the shores of loch lomond was attractive and the original part of the building was very grand. However this hotel has been hugely expanded and any pretence at an intimate establishment offering the highest standards has gone with it. The room was reasonably large and we were offered a lake view room with balcony which was nice enough but there are many fine views to be had from accommodation throughout Scotland. The room itself was very average. There was no individuality and it was really little better than any superior chain hotel at a fraction of the price. There was very little in the way in the way of refreshments in the room. A single cheap packet of biscuits in a cellophane wrapper, a tiny bottle of milk and the usual tea bags etc. Not the standard we were expecting and none of it was replaced during our three night stay. The bathroom was functional but characterless. We would have expected a bath in this category of hotel but there was only a shower. The sink was useless as the taps were within a few centimetres of the sink surface. The toilet seat was loose on its fittings and not repaired properly when I asked. On the first night of our stay we were kept awake by a very noisy party in the function suite below our room with raucous singing going on until 3.00am . On day three of our stay we came back tired after our long hike to find that our room and those of our friends had not been made up by housekeeping. We complained and someone was sent to hurriedly make up the beds but this was not done properly and the bathrooms weren't cleaned. We have never had this happen ever, anywhere, even in the cheapest hotels. The leisure facilities were nice enough but again because this is a very large hotel and there are additional lodges in the grounds the pool area was so busy with noisy families that we turned around and gave up. On the plus side the many staff were pleasant and courteous. Breakfast was good. We did not eat at the grill. We ate at La Vista which was ok. The tavern was very noisy with pool tables and loud music and not our thing at all. So all in all a huge disappointment. Cameron house had our large deposits for a year and then in the weeks prior to our stay and afterwards we were inundated with emails offering us special offers at less than half of what we had paid. Although we asked the question there was absolutely no concession to be made by management in extending any kind of inclusion of the offer to us. We were told as we left that should we wish to return we would personally be given an advantageous offer on a subsequent stay but sorry, we will most definitely not be back for more and we will reserve our hard earned cash for a genuine 5* experience elsewhere.

Booked a online a couple of months in advance as a one night pre-Christmas break for ourselves and our dog. Notified them in advance by email that we would be bringing a dog and received a response advising that there would be a £50 per night charge for the dog and attaching their dog policy. As a responsible dog owner, I wasn't particularly worried by the dog policy as we wouldn't be leaving the dog alone in the room. We would be unable to eat in the Grill but could use the other restaurants - not a problem as the Grill wouldn't be our first choice.
On arrival, the receptionist was unaware that we were bringing a dog. I was promptly asked to pay the additional £50. For the £50, we were provided with a hard plastic dog bed, a throw, a towel food/water bowl and a large bundle of poo bags. No dog treats were included (though I believe they should have been).
Room was comfortable (though showing signs of wear and tear) - chipped bath, scratched sink, etc. and we were slightly disappointed in the room bearing in mind how much we had paid.
My main complaint is in the choice of restaurants. La Vista (where we planned on taking the dog for dinner) was closed and the other restaurant (The Clubhouse) was 3 miles away! We would only be allowed in the lounge area at The Clubhouse (not the restaurant) and, although transport is available from the hotel, it stops at 5.45 and we were not permitted to use with the dog. The only option left to us was to eat in The Tavern (think of it as an expensive Wetherspoons) - although nearly empty, we had to wait 15 minutes to place a drinks order.
Breakfast is served in the Grill and, when I pointed out to the receptionist that we would be unable to dine there as we had a dog, was advised that we could have breakfast in the room though this would be subject to a tray charge. There was no means of ordering breakfast in the room.
I did point all of the above out to the receptionist as we were leaving and she said she would raise with the duty manager. She did look at refunding us the charge for the dog but was unable to do so as I had asked that the charge for the dog be taken from a gift voucher I had used to cover the cost of any extras. I was also offered a take-out breakfast which I also declined - sitting in a car park eating breakfast didn't really hold much appeal.
Suggestion to hotel management - why not go and look at The Bonnie Badger in Gullane (featured in the Michelin guide) and see how they can accommodate dogs in their main restaurant?

I was home for Christmas and decided to go into the beautiful Cameron house with family after not visiting for a few years.
The location/venue is spectacular however really disappointed in the service provided. I dont mind paying higher prices at all for quality services/products however I do expect the service to be of a certain standard if charging these prices.
We walked through the downstairs bar and asked what our choices were for drinks. Advised the downstairs bar or upstairs in the whisky/cocktail bar. We decided to go upstairs. I approached a staff member behind the bar and advised there was table service. We sat down and by the look of the dirty glasses/cups on the table I was not confident table service would happen anytime soon. I went up to the bar and ordered a nice bottle of wine and some coffee, there was a 6 or 7 pounds service charge automatically added onto the bill for drinks ordered at a bar!
Prior to drinks being brought to our table we had moved the dirty glasses/cups to one side expecting them to be taken away. The staff member arrived with our drinks and put the drinks down then walked off without taking the previous customers glasses/cups away or even wiping this dirty table. I had to call the staff member as he was walking away to take the glasses/cups away. The dirty table never got wiped.
In addition to this, there were tasting events on when we arrived and it looked as if some of the armchair seats had been squashed together in various areas around the bar to make room for these events. There were also “stored” armchairs lined up along the main windows which took away any possible view when seated.
Overall I was disappointed that a beautiful venue like the Cameron House are charging well above average prices for drinks when they are offering a very poor service and low standard presentation in this bar.
Hopefully this feedback is taken on board and better service is provided to future customers who are paying well above average prices.

Had a fantastic weekend stay at the Mansion House. The spa is amazing, enjoyed two separate visits there and it is superb. The spa was relatively quiet, so managed to swim and use all the various saunas. The mansion house is so spacious and the robes and slippers and bathroom products just goes above and beyond. Huge shout out to Kev the transport man. He was really helpful getting us around the site.

Went to La Vista (formerly the Boat House) for lunch. Bit underwhelmed by the £2M revamp; it just looks like a corporate dining room now. Disappointed by the lack of Scottish produce on the menu, particularly seafood. For example, the only seafood main is swordfish. A sharing plate of antipasti was served at the same time as the several warm small plates we had ordered as a main course, also for sharing. These were taken away with very bad grace by the server when we reminded that the antipasti was the entree, not part of the main course. All the warm dishes were served on cold plates so cooled rapidly. Cold beef and broccoli, anyone? The food was competent enough but the menu offerings were just not that inspired. We never did find out what the pasta of the day was. Quite disappointing compared to the restaurant’s former incarnation. And the “mercato/deli” was seriously understocked and bereft of any fresh produce except cakes and ice cream (sorry, “gelato”, including bright blue bubblegum flavour for which they failed to provide an Italian translation, and no wonder). All rather “meh”.

We have just stayed at Cameron house this weekend and just felt the need to give some feed back on our experience, firstly the reservations team, reception, valet, housekeeping and all front of house staff were brilliant and professional but that's unfortunately where it ended !
We spent the first night in la vista which was lacking in service seemingly ran by staff that weren't sure of much and and forgot to bring our bottle of wine !! Food was ok but nothing special.
The next stop was the great Scot bar where we were told the heaters didn't work outside as the gas had ran out, then to be told if we were bothered by the cold we maybe shouldn't have come to Scotland on holiday we needed the sun i couldn't believe what I was hearing !! He did however bring us a blanket by then everyone else sat outside started asking for them !!! So wasn't just us I was just asking as the heaters were there to obviously be used so should be in working order in a 5 star hotel.
One of the days we went to the tavern for a bite and again service wasn't great. They brought out food with no cutlery had to ask and then when it was brought there was no spoon for the soup !!! I waited again had to ask till soup got cold !! Every morning we had to ask for hot drinks to be ordered no one came to take our order, then the icing on the cake was the last night we booked into Cameron grill for a birthday meal and my husbands lamb had a hair in it !!! They took the lamb off the bill and we got an apology and a desert but just felt a bit flat the whole experience was just disappointing for this level of establishment life guards in the pool were not in the least bit paying attention talking to girls and just didn't seem like paying attention at all.
Overall really disappointed abd we were looking forward to booking a lodge this bank holiday to come and bring the kids just don't feel that the service actually warrants the price tag at all such a shame as the hotel is beautiful and in such a fabulous location.
