Stayed at the Makayla Palms Tia villa for three weeks. We were met at the airport by Fred and transferred to the villa upon our arrival. The villa is a very good size and was spotless. It is well supplied with everything you need including a barbecue for cooking if you wish to do so. The next day we met Grace, the manager, who made sure that everything was satisfactory and answered any questions we had. The resort is located just off the beach but just a 30 second walk away. The ocean is visible from our villa but not from the other two on the property. Snorkel equipment loungers and kayaks are provided by the resort. We were fortunate enough to meet the owners John and Rachel and had some lovely conversations with them. They truly cared about the comfort of their guests and the cleanliness and appearance of the plants and garden on the grounds. We also had the pleasure of meeting Loving who looked after the cleaning and laundry at Makayla Palms. She was a joy to talk to and always would have a smile and time for some wonderful conversation. We truly felt like family here at this resort and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet comfortable place near the beach.

We enjoyed our stay at the Makayla Palms. The location is great : beach access is so close and we were lucky to have the beach to ourselves. Good snorkelling in a safe spot. It was walking distance to Little Polynesian Resort and Charlies. We especially enjoyed our meals at the Little Polynesian. The bus stops right outside which was handy as we didn't have transport. We purchased a concession card from the driver (10 trips with each trip no matter the distance being $5). The villa was very well equiped. Would recommend having the AC as the fan was good but it was very hot!

A very special mention to the wonderful Grace who knowing that we would be returning from Aitutaki on Good Friday very kindly picked us up from the airport as there were no buses running. We really appreciated this very thoughtful service.

Would highly recommend staying at the Makayla Palms and wouldn't hesitate to stay there if were went to Rarotonga again.

We stayed 9 nights in the 2-bedroom Tiana villa. The villa was spotlessly clean and comfortable and surprisingly large. There were lots of nice touches to make the stay more comfortable, such as extra beach and bath towels and linen, snorkeling gear, reef shoes and kayaks. If you’re a keen snorkeler you might want to bring your own flippers so you have the right size.

The kitchen was well set up - there was even a blender so we could make our own cocktails! Although with Charlie’s cafe just down the road I didn’t do much cooking.

The beach is down a short path and there are some handy extra sun loungers stored against the fence by the beach. The snorkeling in front of the property is lovely - the diversity of small colourful fish was better than we saw on the Lagoon boat trip.

The manager, Grace, was very welcoming and helped us with car booking, She was just a phone call away when we needed anything.

I would happily go back anytime!

We woke up every morning and strolled down to the panoramic views of the turquoise lagoon. It was mesmerising. The villa location is a few steps away from a private palm tree few steps passage, at the end of which are loungers which you then plonk on the best beach on the island, and swim, watch your family snorkel, and kayak.. most often we were the only people on the beach! Amazing.

The villas were spotlessly clean, lovely design and furnishings, exuding an air of tranquility and luxury. The attention to detail was great, with loads of information in the handbook also. From the fully equipped kitchen to the private outdoor terrace with BBQ, it felt like a home away from home.

The friendly and attentive staff at Makayla Palms were always available to offer recommendations, arrange activities, and ensure that every aspect of our stay was entirely enjoyable.

Polynesian Rental Cars next door were more than helpful, it was lovely to have a car to get out and about, although the bus stops right out the front too, that was another option. Go Local snorkelling with turtles were brilliant, Umu Experience a must, Koko Lagoon Tours after fabulous breakfast at LBV. The fish wraps we had on the beach at Viana’s was the best (and the margarita!) and our last night was a wonderful highlight watching the whales at Tamarind House enjoying the most delicious coconut curry ever.

Makayla Palms and our Cook Island holiday was an idyllic haven of fun and tranquility: an absolutely lovely holiday!

Just (sadly) arrived home from our 6th stay at Makayla Palms and very pleased to report that it is as amazing as ever! Service from Grace is perfect as always and the beach is just as quiet and free of busloads of tourists as we are accustomed to. With Charlies and the Little Polynesian just down the road for either a casual or formal bite to eat and Carl's store and Wigmores now even better stocked than ever its possible to eat in or out - whichever you prefer. The family who own this property should be very proud to have continually kept their amazing property up to the same high standard after all these years. Looking forward to stay 7 hopefully very soon!!

Stunning accomodation, very private and relaxed. I came with my adult children and my best friend and her husband and we rented out all three villas. While not on the beach it is 10 seconds away with a private access. They provide everything you need from
Beach chairs, kayaks, snorkeling gear, BBQ , laundry , even a well stocked pantry of staples and dvds. Although we never even turned on the TV. The sheltered veranda provides well needed shade. The only downside was the heat as the villas have only fans (unless you pay extra for the air con) but u don’t come to Raro unless u want some heat and sunshine so ultimately it didn’t affect our stay.

This was our third visit to Makayla Palms which we both feel is a fantastic self catering option in Rarotonga. We stayed in Villa Tiare which is our favourite as it’s more secluded. The beach is just a 30second walk away. Beautiful lagoon to swim in. Loungers for you to use on the beach as well as Kayaks. Car rental next door and a small shop 5 mins walk away. All staff are extremely helpful and friendly. Looking forward to even more improvements which will include new bathrooms!

All went well with our stay, it is was extremely windy, so we were not able to snorkel, it was less windy on the other side of Rarotonga. Unfortunately dealing with this property after we had checked out was infuriating. I pride myself on always ensuring I leave a property clean and tidy, and check every room. The property management sent me a photo of a bathroom bin, a week after I left, and accused me of damages to the bin, then charged me $50! They claimed the bin was tipped over and rubbish was scattered on the floor. NOT TRUE! Suggest you take photos before you leave.

Kia orana. As mentioned in our direct communication, I am very sorry that the email regarding the unsalvageable bin was not sent on the day of check out. We were (owners), however, informed about the bin on the day of check out (the day the photo was taken - date and time stamped). Unfortunately items like this are expensive and hard to replace here on our little Island. Our staff are honest and hard working and were only doing their jobs, and I feel considering all the events during the stay, we were incredibly accomodating.

Our recent trip to Rarotanga was highlighted by our first stay at Makayla Palms. Ideal location, accommodations that were perfect for our needs and exactly as described on their website. Our hosts (Grace, Fred and Loving) were very helpful and very gracious! We hope to return as soon as practical.
