Stunning views of the mountains, beautiful little farm. The lodge is really cosy and excellently maintained/kept clean. I stayed in winter and there were plenty of blankets and our hosts kept the fire tended for us. The hosts were lovely, the shower worked and was hot, it was a privilege to stay and I'll definitely be back.

Kristina and Charly are very, very friendly and uncomplicated hosts. We really enjoyed these two nights. Everything was there and clean. The environment on the organic farm was so relaxing and the evenings and the view on the veranda with a glass of red wine were fantastic! Opononi (just under 10 minutes drive) also has a wonderful long sandy beach.

My family of 12 stayed in a mix of lodge rooms, caravan and room separate from the lodge building. The place was simple, the hosts were so very helpful and the view was magic. It took some getting used to having no Wi-Fi or phone signal and charging devices at the office for some of our group but we had nearly everything we needed for our big group. Small note there is no microwave so if catering for a big group keep this in mind. Will stay there again.

Our tramping group spent a night. In the afternoon we did part of the Waima Forest Six Foot Track to Framptons Hut a 2 hour return walk in beautiful bush. The Lodge accommodation for our group was just right. The Lodge was very clean and well kept and the hosts very helpful. It is a tranquil isolated location.

It is a beautiful lodge in a bountiful Bush area with lovely lovely people looking after the place. We would recommend to anyone who wants to live in absolute peace and experience some immense fresh food and kiwi hospitality! The communal kitchen is fully stocked for you to cook at your leisure and best of all is the breathtaking views.

We stayed here at the beginning of our NZ tour trip. They say it's suitable for dogs, I wouldn't recommend as they let their dogs wander the property and one doesn't like interactions with other dogs.
Terrible access especially if you have a long caravan or camper.
There are many bees etc so wat h this space if you are allergic.
A fare bit off the beaten track. We didn't enjoy the experience the only part we would recommend is Kevin, he is lovely!

Response from Okopako, Manager at Okopako Lodge

Thank you for your review. To clarify a few points, we welcome dogs to stay as long as they are kept on a leash and do not stray into the paddocks and or the buildings/other guests' areas (refer to Guest Information card). Our dogs are very tolerant of other animals and are permitted to walk around the property, but are usually close to one of the Lodge staff. Your dogs were loose and aggressive at the time of the incident with Lois, the small child and the dogs. The access is quite tight on some sites for larger campers, but if parking instructions are followed, no issues should occur. Kevin is very good at doing this, and your kind words about him have been passed on. This is a working farm with large organic gardens, native bush and flower gardens, so there will be bees, wasps and other insects. One of the Lodge Managers is very allergic to bees, etc. and lives here quite happily as long as the correct medications are on hand. If guests are allergic, then they should have their own medication. However, there is a full first aid kit in the Lodge office and two trained first aiders on site.

This is a great centre for bush walks and there are a wide range of options from a place to park your camper to some charming caravans (via a backpackers lodge). The kitchen is better equipped than you'd expect and there are some lovely touches of Kiwi ingenuity. We would stay there again, and longer next time. Very friendly, the facilities are well kept and the views superb.

We stayed one night only as we were travelling round the Hokianga Habour, but could have easily stayed longer. The views from the guest lounge and deck are wonderful they look out over farmland towards the distant hills and harbour.

The lodge is next door to DOC land which is a Kiwi Sanctuary and has lots of bush walks to enjoy. The peace and quiet is captivating.

The owners are very helpful. The lodge has various options for accommodation, bed and breakfast, backpackers, caravans, and camping. Everything is spotless.

The kitchen is very well equipped and has everything needed. You can charge your electronics at the office.

We would return and stay longer.

I stayed one night and was really comfortable. The farm’s remote location makes it a very special tranquil place. But it was also really convenient for the Footprints Waipoua tour (also brilliant!). The views over the hills below are stunning. Lois prepared a wonderful breakfast and was a great host. Wish I could have stayed longer.
