Despite being alone, they had breakfast prepared for us at 08:00 with fresh orange juice, fresh pastries and bread, butter and homemade jams. There was also cheese and cold cuts and they offered us eggs as we wanted, but the pastries were enough for us.
And I have to add another “but”: the coffee, I am a big coffee drinker, and I like brown coffee, and the coffee was more like American coffee ♀️🤷🏻. Very friendly people.

The B&B has a hot tub/ jacuzzi - which is just so relaxing after a days hard cycling in the mountains. It also has a little garden with sun loungers - which we used as the weather was so hot!
There is a handy garage, which has a fridge/freezer for guests use and a washing machine, very handy for smelly cycling kit!
Downstairs there is a communal lounge, which has a television and coffee making facilities (neither of which are in the bedrooms.) This threw me at first, however, over the week this encouraged all guests to get together and chat - which was really nice and interesting to learn about the others guests and their origins.
We had a couple of extra-ordiarily hot days and this made sleeping a little difficult as there was no air-con etc in our room, but that's a small price to pay for the outstanding beauty of the location and the b&b itself.
The hosts welcome you into their b&b like it is their home, and are very friendly. I especially love hearing their little daughter playing with the dog in the garden - very cute - and a sense of family togetherness which i loved.
Will definitely be visiting again.
With other cyclists also staying there, Peter thoughtfully put together evening meals that reflected our need for energy whilst at the same preparing some local dishes and always using locally sourced ingredients. Breakfasts were also delicious and featured some fantastic home made jams and marmalade.
Paula and I were fortunate to have the top bedroom with skylights and lovely views of the mountains.
I usually visit the Savoie for some cycling every second year and with Bourg d'Oissans the focal point of Alpine cycling, I'll keep going back to Cle des Bois - it's just a lovely place with lovely hosts.

Stayed here in September 2010 and September 2012 on cycling trips and have been delighted with the quality of accommodation, food, service and outstanding value. The rooms are well appointed, individual and have good quality bath/shower facilities. A very adequate is superseded by the magnificent 3 course dinner which at €25 including a more than serviceable Cote du Rhone represents some value. Not surprising perhaps as Peter was a restauranteur in the nearby ski resort of Vaujanay for 18 years so one can expect fresh, locally sourced ingredients that are superbly cooked and brilliantly presented.
Looking forward to my next visit in July when I'll be participating in La Marmotte, 174km of cycling in the mountains so good accommodation and food is a necessity.
"We stayed in the upstairs room with 4 beds and terrace, was perfect for our small group."Read full review
"Whilst the basic rooms are very well appointed and comfortable, the small amount extra for the 'suites' especially the top room are well worth it"Read full review
