Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Nestled in a picturesque setting, Cricklade House Hotel captivates guests with its lovely views and the quaint surrounds of Cricklade, earning widespread acclaim. While the spacious rooms are appreciated, some guests suggest they could benefit from modernization and attention to maintenance. The service stands out for its professionalism, though a few have encountered lapses in organization.
Opinions on value are polarized, with the balance of cost and amenities debated among travelers. The hotel's ambiance mixes old-world charm with areas in need of rejuvenation. The spa and breakfast are highlights, despite occasional cleanliness and service inconsistencies.

Hotel's Favourite
A lovely hotel and spa. We had 2 rooms on the first floor with views through mullion windows over the grounds and countryside beyond both rooms were different in character and décor but both large - one had a 4 poster bed. Rooms and en-suites were clean with crisp white bed linen. We used the spa area which again was clean and tidy –massage treatments in the spa were excellent. We ate at the hotel - lunch, dinner and breakfast options were all good.
However it is the staff that set this hotel apart from others. From the warm welcome we received in the conservatory/bar when we arrived for coffee morning through to checkout our requests, even if a little odd , were met with professionalism and fielded with good humour. We were treated like guests at a country residence and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thank you

Just returned after 3 night stay. Had one of the garden rooms. Nicely decorated and clean. Able to park outside your accommodation. Currently no room service to attend to your rooms so several trips to Reception to replenish loo rolls shower gels etc. Ate 2 nights in the restaurant in the evening. Hard working attentive staff and a good selection of varied meals. All tasty and nicely presented. One thing that let it down was the slow arrival of cooked breakfasts in the mornings.Averaging 40minutes wait from sitting down on 2 mornings with lots of grumbling from other guests. However when it arrived it was very nice. A thing like this can make a big difference to customers attitudes but can so easily be rectified by changes in the kitchen. Not really a covid excuse. Despite this little issue it didn't distract from the stay. We used the pool 3 days. Spotlessly clean as not long been renovated. And limited bookable entry.

Covid 19 makes for difficult times for anyone in the hospitality business including ourselves who have a holiday cottage business. Restrictions and tight budgets have meant that things are not quite as perfect as they would be in better times, and our experience of the Cricklade was very much along those lines. Although this included a few glitches these were promptly and gracefully rectified, breakfast was excellent with helpful and friendly staff. Our room (family garden room) clean, spacious and with a child friendly bedroom adjoining the double (our three year old loved the wall paper) and the double bed was amazingly comfortable resulting in a much needed blissful sleep after a long drive.
As we were visiting an elderly relative we avoided the dining room and relied on room service. No complaint as such but slightly meagre portions and a bit more variety on the menu would have been good.
Unfortunately we only stayed one night and will hopefully be back for longer in the future, especially at these prices with the Cricklade overall offering exceptional value for money.

A friend and I had a spa day at the newly refurbished Fritillary Spa this week. The booking had been changed a few times as building works had delayed opening, but everything was up and running when we visited.
Our package included a welcome smoothie, gown and slippers, lunch and an express 25 min facial or massage.
There were no other guests due to the Coronavirus so we had the whole spa to ourselves! The pool was warm and beautiful, with a lovely outlook onto the gardens. There were six loungers, so as we were the only two there we had no problem getting one but I don’t know how they would manage if it was busier. The sauna and steam room were both open, but no sign of a jacuzzi that others have mentioned? Everything was spotless, and the showers had quality body wash, shampoo and conditioner plus hairdryers and plenty of lockers.
Lunch was a stunning bento box (we both chose the fish option) - delicious and beautifully presented. We enjoyed our treatments and the staff were very friendly and professional.
We had a really relaxing break, and hope to return soon.
We wish all the staff the very best getting through these difficult times.

We've just returned from a 3 night stay at the cricklade spa hotel and what a fantastic time we had,
Firstly it's set in the beautiful countryside with gorgeous views.
We stayed in the main house our room was beautifully done out with a view over the golf course and surrounding fields. The staff are amazing and go above and beyond to make your stay enjoyable, the food is fantastic, the breakfast is all cooked fresh to order with an option to add or remove items, covid guidelines were adhered to with sanitizer readily available,
We spent days out visiting Cirencester, Cheltenham, Stow on the Wold and Gloucester Quays designer outlet, then returning back for drinks and then dinner.
We would especially like to thank Turrum, James, Niamh and sam for all their hardwork and attentiviness for making our stay truly perfect.
So if your looking for a relaxing get away or want a base to go exploring or shopping look no further the Cricklade spa hotel is where you want to go can't recommend this little gem enough and can't wait to return.

Attended for a wedding with a two night stay.
Friendly staff on checking in and a tidy room on arrival.
The room could of done with a lick of paint in areas was peeling from the walls.
Strangely a small mini fridge was just plugged in and left on the floor in the seating area.. having a fridge is a bonus but leaving it on the floor in the middle of a room isn’t the best. Microwave, iron and hoover were available in the room also.
The beds were comfy enough and I managed to get two decent nights sleep.
Paid £15 for golf which was a total waste of money: the golf course is probably the worst I have ever played. Greens have holes in and you may as well go and play in the local park. (Park would be better) golf course I would rate as 1 out of 5 stars.
English Breakfast doesn’t come with beans but they added that on when asked so can’t complain too much. Food was of a decent standard and edible.
Bar is expensive so bring your own drinks where you can. £5.50 for a pint of lager is steep.
Wedding was nice all be it not much room for more guests but with a party of 50 there was enough room. Any more than 50 would be a real squeeze… I am unsure what they advertise how many guests they can cater for but was a real push at 50.

We booked in early and had a pleasant lunch in conservetory before going to our room. It was downhill from there The room allocated number 15 ( a dog room) for which we paid an additional £10 a night was very tired. More importantly the carpet was filthy very badly stained with Dog pee and several clumps of dog hair. There was a cobweb in the bathroom and the grout above the bath taps was badly stained. The toilet basin was badly scratched on the inside with black marks. We went to reception and complained and were told the manager was going to be told after waiting for him to come and view the room for over an hour we went out returning to say we were not prepared to stay in such terrible conditions . He did offer a very week apology saying they would have to stop having dogs to stay he agreed to refund the full price and not charge for lunch. A good gesture unfortunately neither he or available staff ere able to process this and he asked us to return the follow day. We did not as he lovey Omar at Bookings, com contacted the manager then emailed instructions. We have been refunded but not the £20 we paid for our dog. We have subsequently heard from locals who are members of the spa that the roof leeks in the conservatory and there is green slime around the pool area. I appreciate it has been a hard 18months for hotels but the rundown state and poor management of this hotel is appauling such a shame for what could be a great place in a wonderful setting. The waiting staff were friendly and helpful I wonder how long they will stay!

Staff unhelpful, not really interested. Property very run down and like an old American motel. Freezing in rooms that are old and in the annexe. No option to stay in New rooms in the main hotel. Tried to book swimming for the day of arrival..fully booked then they tried to charge us to swim £5 each and no mention of this anywhere, they are part of the facilities aren't they!? Breakfast mediocre...no communication from staff and just sat waiting having no clue what to do. Cardboard cups in rooms for tea and coffee, broken blinds and steamed up windows. All in all wont be returning.

Friends 60th Birthday Party.
Was very disappointed with the service, we arranged Afternoon Tea for this afternoon 29th February and had to serve ourselves! That’s not my idea of an Afternoon Tea. Sandwiches were very dry and selection of cakes was very poor. Not worth the £20 paid I’m afraid. Admittedly we were a large group but other guests had the lovely sandwich/ cake plates on their tables.Sandwiches were just served on platters on the table. We served ourselves from thermos flasks, tea and coffee. Felt bad for our colleague who organised the party. I have had far superior Afternoon Tea elsewhere in Swindon, Chiseldon House Hotel was much better. Beautiful china cups, sandwich plates and lovely cake selection.

Pool and Jacuzzi was open but not the spa or steam room
Good Morning,
Sorry for the delay in answering your question.
We are very dog-friendly. All but one of our garden wing rooms are dog friendly, we welcome dogs into our conservatory, bar and lounge, we have a dog package which includes blanket, basket, ball, treats, and a two course doggie-dinner! Our golf course is dog-friendly and we have a large exercise area too.
It’s best to call the hotel directly to ensure we cater for both your needs.
Best wishes
James
there is a pleasant pool and jacuzzi. steam room in both the ladies and gents changing rooms
