For visitors seeking an alternative to the bland uniformity of many a modern town centre hotel, The White Hart offers an appealing individuality - open fires, beamed ceilings and stone flagged floors set the scene for a relaxing experience. Dating from the 17th century, the White Hart has proven to be a popular retreat for those appreciating good food, fine wine, real ales and comfortable cottage-style accommodation. On arrival, why not sample some of the real ales or fine wines available in the comfort of our warm and friendly bar and lounge? For a tasty snack or full meal, we provide a wide range of excellent traditional and modern dishes

Detailed Reviews
Spent a couple of nights here while walking the Thames Path. It isn't the lap of luxury and doesn't claim to be, and for that reason the prices are very reasonable. But, if like me you just want a comfortable bed in clean surroundings for a short period of time it's perfectly good enough.
I got a friendly welcome from what I took to be the landlady and the young bar and serving staff were well-trained, friendly, prompt and attentive. The room (No. 7), a single, was absolutely fine if a bit tight on space in around the bed, but the bathroom was spacious enough. The room overlooked the outdoor seating at the side of the building so you can get the sound of voices through the open window, but it wasn't a big problem.
Food was good - standard pub grub for the most part but well done. Very nice coffee!
My only small gripe is that the website clearly says "single rooms from £65, doubles from £75 including a hearty breakfast" (see photo) from which I inferred (not unreasonably, I think) that the price included breakfast, hearty or otherwise. It doesn't. It may be that at the actual room booking stage there was a 'breakfast or no breakfast' option but as I wasn't by then looking for such an option, if it was there I didn't notice it. Perhaps this anomaly should be addressed to avoid further confusion?
But all in all, it was a nice stay in a building of character and if I ever decide to walk the Thames Path again, I'll be back to the White Hart.

Stayed for two nights and loved every minute. The hotel is very old but, because of that, it is quite quirky; floors are uneven and the plumbing seem to be quite archaic but that just added to the atmosphere.
Excellent welcome on arrival and all staff were both pleasant and helpful throughout. Our room was clean, comfortable and more than adequate for our stay.
Good breakfast which was both comprehensive and very filling. We dined there on one night and there was a good choice of reasonably priced meals which were well cooked and very tasty. Excellent selection of local beers
We would have no hesitation in staying there again.

Staying in Cricklade, had a meal here. Baked Cod and baked potato with melted tomato and cheese, all was cooked beautifully. If we lived here we would definitely eat here more often.
Maybe we will book a room one day and taste more

The room was clean and the beds comfortable but only one pillow each. The shower alternated between molten larva to ice flow without warning. We had booked dinner in advance but was told on arrival that they didn’t serve food on Sunday night. No apology. No explanation. No offer of help. We managed to find a restaurant in the town. On our return from the restaurant the bar was not manned and there were four or five locals in the bar who stopped laughing and talking and stared at us, so we just went to our room. Breakfast was extremely expensive and a total faff with form filling. You had to specify everything you wanted by 10 pm the previous evening- down to whether you wanted marmalade with the toast. So we didn’t bother and had a breakfast in the cafe across the road. So not very welcoming at all.

No check in desk have to go to the bar, but no actual notices tell one that. What if a family with small kids arrive with bags, they would have to manoeuvre through drinkers. My room was odd, very old style wallpaper with a modern photo on the wall, the bed was approx 21cm from wall and door to bathroom but a full length mirror on the wall meant would have to clamber on to the bed to see oneself. Windows in room had 2 different pattern opaque glass in which meant couldn't see out but the bathroom had clear glass so could see out from sitting on the loo but also anyone could look in. The windows didn't open but a tiny fan provided that puffed a bit of air gently. A marvellous angle poise desk lamp was bed side light on a small table leaving not much room. Didn't take breakfast as thought it was costly for percieved quality of the place.

I organised a reunion for old golfing friends and many of their wives.
We stayed from Sunday 3td - Wednesday 6th April.
I've organised numerous get togethers like this in the past but I must say for hospitality, accommodation and food. The White Hart takes some beating.
Our hosts John and Sam went the extra mile in all ways.
They helped us with our table layouts, they served lovely food for us on our arrival on Sunday when they wouldn't normally serve food on a Sunday evening and their wasn't a request that wasn't helped with.
Food: The food was excellent, freshly cooked hot English breakfast and a different menu each 3 nights of our stay.
Staff: As well as John and Sam, the staff were really friendly and helpful.
Accommodation: the rooms were clean, comfortable and cosy.
Cricklade itself is a quaint little town and provided an excellent base for visiting Cirencester and the Cotswolds.
Can't praise this place enough. Ideally placed geographically for a stopover if travelling North. South, West or East of the country.
Thanks a million John and Sam.

Recently moved to Cricklade and decided to try out the The White Hart Hotel for there Sunday carvery with my husband and 2 sons.
Could not fault it one bit. All the staff were really friendly and welcoming and made sure we were happy.
The food was excellent! As the owner/chef said it's proper honest homemade food. I had roast beef with all the trimmings and it was cooked to perfection. My little one couldn't get enough of the Yorkshire puddings. We ordered dessert as well.. pecan pie and sticky toffee pudding.. Amazing! I had to go home and have a sleep afterwards 😂
Not silly prices either. We will definitely be back to try out the day to day menu.
I cannot recall the last time I have been out to eat and had simple homemade cooked food... Highly recommend

Enjoyed two pints here, thirsty after walking fom Swindon. It holds a central position on the wide, easeful main street of Cricklade. This small country town was sleepy, as was the pub, a couple of locals sipping quietly near the bar.
I found a window seat in a room further way, with a big table good for spreading out my maps. The barmaid (Kerry?) was a local lady, pleasant and chatty, who kindly asked me about my journey and shared some moans about Swindon--to which Cricklade is a pleasant contrast.
Drank two different Arkells beers with pleasure, well kept.
Thumbs up to the White Hart.

Comfortable stay with very friendly staff and very clean and welcoming.
After working a nearby festival and the weather turning bad we stayed here rather than camping. Staff were very helpful, room was perfect for us. Very clean quiet and enjoyable. We also ate in the restaurant our steak dinners were beautiful and excellent portion and prices.
Thank you so much

Came here for lunch with some friends.
Service was very friendly, and the food was surprisingly good for the price.
Excellent value!!
The only frustration was that after we got our bill they completely forgot about us. The waiter had finished his shift, so had to go and ask the barmaid if they could take our payment, 15-20 mins after we had been given our bill.
If they had been on point with that, this would have been a 5* review.

It’s not true- it was a badly worded poster that said “all foreign languages are welcome except foul language”
The poster also says “no nudity- Vests = nudity” as a poor attempt at humour to deal with dress code.
They have published an explanation, but basically their attempt at humour fell flat on its face due to poor grammar
My apologies , is a result of a poorly worded notice the humous impression was giving that you do not tolerate foreign language , however thanks for clarifying that for me when I rang you,you were most gracious and hopefully others who submitted comments would be open to admit they jumped the gun , many thanks again
As a long term resident I agree with Mike we have no parking charges in Cricklade. The White Hart has its own albeit small car park to the rear. There is on street free parking in the High Street to the front and a public car park across the road behind Tesco. Further away is the Town Hall car park on the High Street and lastly the Rugby Club free car park at the bottom of Calcutt St. Enjoy your visit.
