Check in was poor while checking in was asked if we were dinning in only time available was 18:30 reception is dated and very old school 1980’s having to pick up a red telephone to get someone to come to reception .We were in room 11 great to have only one unit next to us as we were on the end but the hedge is that over grown and not cut like shown in the TripAdvisor pics so you cant see the ocean while sitting on deck of unit so not really a beach view more like a hedge view . The bath room grout is moldy and be-hide the sink in bathroom silicone is coming away and under the toilet the pads to the toilet seat is worn needs replacing. We had ANTS in the room also in bathroom and living area that is why they supply a big can of fly spray for the ANTS yuck. The bed cover and valance we removed as it looked dirty probably from the 1980s As was the pullout bed/coach very stained . The Kitchen was good size but dated all in all we wouldn’t go back as for winning a TripAdvisor award in 2016 thats called irrelevant so if you want a blast from the past 1980s style this will be the motwl for you.

Well located just outside of kaitaia, and we stayed here coming back from Cape Reinga. Very spacious room with a kitchen with a fridge and microwave and more. Super close to the start of 90 mile beach. There’s a restaurant onsite which we didn’t try. Would stay here again

We keep returning here to Ahipara Bay Motel for 2 nights on every trip North to Cape Reinga showing our beautiful country to our many overseas friends over the years. We had a front beach view 2 bdrm unit very well appointed and spotless. Their Bayview restaurant not only served excellent food but afforded us a great view of a beautiful sunset. Thanks to Neil and Raewyn for your friendly hospitality.

We booked into the motel having driven an extra 150 Kms while attempting to hide from Cyclone Gabrielle. The rooms were well appointed and clean. We had stunning views of the bay and of 90 mile beach. Even swam in the sea during the cyclone. We did not eat at the Motel restaurant so can't comment on that.

A lovely place to stay with the front units having a fantastic view. The spa bath was lovely, it was very comfortable and clean, and the staff were great! We had a delicious stone grill at the restaurant too.👍😊

Sadly stayed only one night at The Ahipara Bay Motel but what an amazing experience. Fantastic views of the bay and the start of 90 mile beach. Unit was spotless and the owners were very pleasant. This motel offers an inexpensive stay and we look forward to returning asap. Can't recommend highly enough. Many thanks.

Had a great 2 night stay here, very nice room, amazing ocean view and to top it off, was pet friendly. Clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. Great grass areas to walk the dog as needed, wonderful friendly hosts.

Maybe we were luckier than others who have given less stars reviews, but we just wanted to find a dog friendly place to stay near 90 mile beach. Contacted the Motel and they offered us a room with view from balcony and spa bath (unit circled in red in attached pictures)... and confirmed that our 2 dogs (20kg and 35kg) were also welcome to stay with us at a small additional fee. And when we arrived all that was promised was delivered. The ocean view from the balcony was amazing (see pic). We just had to use pot pants to enclose access to other rooms for our dogs, as the balconies were only partially separated. Easy enough to do though 😉. The spa bath was a plus we did not expect but enjoyed it every day after a tiring day at the beach 🤣. It was a bit loud though, so even if we have not been warned of any time limit to use it, we tried not to use it after 10pm and even then not too long... just worried about other guests as not all rooms have spa. We had a privilege to find such a great place to stay with our dogs, so did not want to risk to get any complains! We stayed 4 nights, and every day the wonderfully nice and friendly room service lady came to ask us, when she saw us have breakfast on the balcony, if we needed anything changed/cleaned for our daily room service. The hosts Neil and Raewyn were very welcoming and really made us feel at ease staying at their place. We also enjoyed the restaurant for a couple of nights and again we were able and allowed to leave our dogs in the room while we were having a relaxed diner. Thanks for such a wonderful stay! Of course we tried our best to keep everything clean and quiet as well on our side, as we really hope to be able to go again some time😉

I wondered how I could have booked a room without a view. When we holiday, I look for good experiences, not the cheapest. I later noticed that the view from the "Family Room With Bathroom" which I was allocated does not match the photo shown on Booking.com & other websites. It appears the photo was taken from one of the adjacent rooms, whose view is not as compromised by the foreground hedge. [See attached photo from room I was allocated] Secondly as soon as we saw tradesmen working only 1 room removed, the room amenity was further diminished The tradesmen were using a loud circular saw during the afternoon which would have been an annoying intrusion on on otherwise peaceful stay I am pleased that we were able to relocate to another room. I am not so pleased however that I had to pay more to receive what I expected. Namely, a room with a view as advertised & the peaceful rest expected I fully understand that properties need to attend to renovations. When however a renovation will intrude on guest amenity it is incumbent on a host to advise clients of this &/or relocate the guest to a room which fulfills the contract between hotel/motel & guest The motel did not reply to my complaint. The motel would not acknowledge any service or supply failure with Booking.com Disappointing lack of integrity I paid additional for a room removed from the motel renovations and with a view. In this room the shower head was unable to be fixed. Mid-shower it dislodged. spraying water all over the bathroom like an unheld garden hose. Additionally as others have noted, the shower design is poor - Water flows from beneath the shower, across the bathroom floor

Fairly basic but clean and tidy rooms. Part close to our unit and close to the beach. Bed a bit hard for my liking. There is a restaurant on site which does nice meals. Helpful staff. Would use them again.
