Nestled atop a scenic hill, Gleddoch Hotel, Spa & Golf offers a mixed experience. Guests commend its cleanliness and some well-appointed rooms, yet others are marred by noise and maintenance issues. The spa's outdoor jacuzzi and views are highlights, though overcrowding can dampen the experience. While the atmosphere varies, with some spaces exuding beauty and others appearing dated, there's a consistent sentiment that the hotel may not offer the best value, with overpriced services and additional charges. Friendly staff are a plus, but uneven service and a less convenient location draw criticism.

I booked to stay here for Friday night with my boyfriend and was very excited as heard many good things about it. Arrived around 4/5pm and checked in with the woman at reception who was very helpful and ensured we had booked in for dinner, breakfast and a trip to the spa. She then directed us to out room and gave us our key. We had booked a junior suite so were very excited to be staying for the night.

When opening the door, we were both extremely disappointed. The room was nothing like what the one online looked like. Of course, I understand that not all room are going to look exactly like the one advertised, but this was nothing like it. The bedroom, bathroom and lounge area of the suite all had completely different interiors and the room just wasn't worth the money paid for it. I was pleased with the dressing gowns and slippers wrapped up on the bed as this made you feel like they were properly cleaned.

We then made our way to dinner. We sat and I ordered the chicken whilst my boyfriend ordered lamb cutlets. All looked god until he got to his last cutlet which was barely cooked and had a white line running through it, he decided not to eat it and when the waitress came to clear our table, I asked her about the lamb. She was very nice and told us it was fat but this wasn't true as the other cutlets had fat which were more of a clear colour compared, she said she would go back to the kitchen and ask. She came back and said the same so we decided to leave and go to the bar. The bar was quite quiet but I am assuming this is because it shuts at 10pm currently. At the bar, we met a couple we knew that also said they had to send their food back as it was under cooked. We took a picture of the lamb and showed to family and friends and they were appalled that the restaurant could serve us that.

We went to the spa the next morning which I enjoyed. Felt very safe as the area was not overcrowded and didn't feel like we were on a strict time to arrive/leave.
The breakfast was average. The waiters/waitresses had to get everything for you which was fine but I did feel bad continually pestering them when you can see them at other tables.

Overall, I am quite disappointed with the hotel as I have heard so many good things from friends and family. I am not sure if I would spend the money again to give this restaurant and hotel another chance. I have reached out to the hotel by email but yet to receive a reply.

We booked to stay for one night and at the time of booking the hotel had planned to open the Spa at the start of August so we had booked treatments for the Imperia Spa at 1300 prior to check in, hoping to utilise the spa facilities prior to check in at 1500. As it turns out the spa was closed until September but our treatments could still go ahead. The girls in the Imperia Spa were fabulous, like seriously they explained everything were so accommodating and the treatments were incredible. As the Spa was closed we were at a loss of what to do and we asked if we could check in early (40 minutes) but were told the rooms weren’t ready and we could go to the bar. We finally checked in at approx 1505 but no information was given to us on where we were expected to wear masks etc and after walking to our room (down a corridor that stank of cigarette smoke) we arrived outside at nearly 1515 as we went to swipe into our room the door opened and out came two men not wearing masks, considering we were as guests wearing masks this shocked me that I was then entering my room where these two men had just appeared from. Now we went back to reception and mentioned this and instead of an apology it was put back on us as our fault! We were told these men were maintenance and had to check all the rooms prior to check in and because our room was the last of a corridor and we had checked in so close to check in they weren’t quite finished oh and also they don’t have to wear masks when in customers rooms only in the corridors!! A simple “this is who they are they should of been finished before 3 and we are sorry they weren’t” would of sufficed and also I cannot explain how unsafe I felt going straight into my room where two men had been walking around checking everything with no mask/gloves on! We were booked into dinner and breakfast at the VISTA restaurant and I cannot fault the restaurant staff at all! They were very accommodating, explained all the procedures and menus and were very informative and the food we had was delicious. We also went to the dram bar where again the bartender was knowledgeable, friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately the covid rules meant the public areas of the hotel were cold because all the fire doors were open etc. During our stay we only seen about 4 other couples walking around the hotel wearing masks everyone else was either ignoring the rule or weren’t aware they had to wear masks? Difficult to know because we weren’t given any information to compare too. This is a shame as we stayed here to try out the hotel as a potential wedding venue and whilst overall we had a nice time we felt unsafe compared to other hotels we’ve recently stayed at.

Just very disappointed at how disorganised the hotel was. I know it has recently reopened but staff training is sadly lacking. We stayed last year after first lockdown and it was wonderful so it was such a let down.

Reception check in was a manic jumble. Told the hotel needed to 'hold' £50 per night for food/drinks ordered. I agreed as it is usually just 'held' by hotels and then the amount settled when you leave, be aware that at Gleddoch they actually take the money, £150 in my case, from your account and then don't promptly refund any overpayment, I had to wait 3 days for it! Very misleading.

When I booked in it would have been nice to to told that I must always leave one key card in the holder to keep the electric on so I don't get locked out of my room in just a bathrobe when returning from the spa and then have to walk right through the hotel to get another card.

Weddings and their guests clearly take priority so we were sharply told to leave the Dram bar (no signage to tell us) and then it was closed the following evening without warning. Enjoying the Dram Bar is usually part of the fun experience trying different whisky and gin.

The Executive River View room was tired, chips and bangs on walls and door, mould showing in shower sealant, big bleach stains on carpets and in corridors.

The food in the Vista Restaurant is just awful and is poorly cooked, overpriced and often not as described on the menu (a halibut dish turned into trout with added mussels, a blood orange tart was a horrid lemon curd concoction, a pavlova was a cheap meringue nest with a few defrosted berries) tiny poussin with little meat had no veg or chips.

The staff were pleasant but forgetful, rushing around and delays of 45mins between courses. Water never delivered. Delay in service then means the Dram bar is closed before you get there! Just so so disappointed

It is a beautiful hotel in a lovely location, we paid extra for the Executive River view room and it looked over the new outside spa which we enjoyed. The spa staff were helpful.

We have all battled through furloughs and covid restrictions and so it really is not an excuse that they are understaffed and untrained. The Gleddoch stay was to be an expensive treat for my birthday and we were left very disappointed.

I tried to speak to the Manager when I checked out but I was told 'he was too busy dealing with other complains'.

Sadly we won't be returning.

The spa facilities were great - the large outdoor jacuzzi was great late at night in the cold weather. The rooms were nice and well equipped, while the hotel bar's cocktails and whiskey selection really hit the mark. All the staff were super accommodating and helpful throughout our stay. Great value for money for the January sale, well worth the visit.

We just spent a 4 day break with friends and family to see in the new year at the Gleddoch Hotel Hogmanay Ball and to spend some time relaxing. We booked a 4 day ‘package’ to include dinner and breakfast plus the Hogmanay celebrations.

There were many positives about this place and the staff were in the main attentive and professional and couldn’t do enough for us.

There was a problem with the boiler in our part of the hotel which led to loss of hot water and heating on our last night but we were immediately offered an alternate room and any other assistance we needed to manage. It was nice to see that the staff were doing everything in their power to put it right.

I had a Spa treatment by Ashleigh which was was great and very good value. Unfortunately we didn’t get chance to use the main spa facilities but feedback from other guests was very good. We also didn’t use the golf course but again it all looked well run.

The Dram Bar barman was very professional and provided really good service throughout our stay. The bar is small but comfortable and there is also a comfortable sitting room next door as an ‘overflow’.

Food in the Vista restaurant was very good and any small problems were rectified quickly. Some service in the restaurant was a little slow but not enough to spoil our experience.

The highlight was the Hogmanay ball which was one of the best parties we’ve had to see in the new year. Our waitress Kirsty was wonderful and could not do enough for us. The fireworks were spectacular and the live band entertainment created an amazing atmosphere. We were initially disappointed to learn that children would be attending the ball as we specifically wanted a formal adults only event, however the numbers of children were limited and didn’t distract from the ‘grown up’ black tie experience. The hotel managed to strike a nice balance of formality and fun and we would definitely return to experience it again.

A small issue is that there was no lift access to our room and the restaurant and there are quite a few stairs to navigate so best to check before booking if this is an issue for you.

James the general manager handled our few concerns quickly, respectfully and professionally and we were quickly reassured. Despite the few small issues I have rated our stay a 5 on the basis of wonderful location, comfortable rooms, lovely food, great overall facilities, excellent staff and service and of course an amazing Hogmanay party which was outstanding.

Your comments have been shared across the resort amongst all colleagues involved in helping create such an enjoyable experience for you and your party, in particular Ashleigh and Kirsty who are equally delighted. Once again I am delighted that we made your first Scottish Hogmanay celebrations memorable and I do hope to welcome you all back to Gleddoch if not in the very near future, then for Hogmanay 2020. Myself and my partner came on Saturday for an overnight stay and we can honestly say that it was the best few days we’ve ever had! Entering reception we were greeted by Kelly with a lovely warm welcome. She explained how everything worked and booked us in for dinner and breakfast. Upon entering our room we were blown away by the stunning views and complimentary champagne and chocolates. We had our own robes and slippers laid out, plus toiletries in the bathroom. We were booked into the pool at 4pm, Derek showed us around and made sure we were accommodated to and made us feel so welcome. Our dinner table was booked for 7pm and Farooq couldn’t of been any kinder, he explained the menu and made sure everything was perfect with our meal. Our server Lisa was so lovely and the service was so quick! The food was absolutely spectacular, we had no faults at all and the cocktails were even better! We headed to the dram bar and Brian made us beautiful drinks and made sure we were never empty handed. The following day we headed to breakfast and it was as expected, lovely. Due to COVID, we were a bit apprehensive about using the spa facilities but it was completely spotless and Derek was constantly making sure that everyone was following the guidelines and wiping down all the surfaces. We had massages booked at 11 o’clock but headed down early to jump into the pool, the views from the jacuzzi were absolutely beautiful. We both had a full body massage and we’ve never had anything like it before. Our massage therapists were Lauren and Rachel, they gave us exactly what we asked for and made sure we were more than satisfied. I honestly couldn’t recommend the Gleddoch hotel enough! We’ve already started looking to book again in the upcoming months. Thank you to every single person who assisted us and made us feel so at home, it’s an experience that we’ll never forget!! See you all soon, Linzi and Morgan x

We stayed here for 4 nights in July for a mini honeymoon. We had been really looking forward to the stay but a number of things let us down.

Firstly, on arrival, we asked about arranging spa treatments and a round of golf but were told by Reception to ask at the Spa/Pro Shop.

When we got to the Spa we were told they were fully booked for the entirety of our stay and that we should have pre booked. We booked our stay in March and payment was taken immediately. The first we were told about booking in advance was 4 days before check in, by which point they would have already been booked up.

When we asked for a round of golf they were able to accommodate us but no buggies were available as the course only had 5. You would expect more buggies for a Championship course and bearing in mind it was the hottest weather Scotland had seen for some time, it wasn’t really practical.

Dinner that evening was mediocre for the price. We paid £32 for a steak which was overdone and a large part of it was fat. Being that the food was overpriced for what it was we didn’t eat dinner at the restaurant again, instead choosing to go to Coast and Palaminos a short distance away. The taxi driver did pick up on the fact that a number of guests choose not to eat there!

The hotel information indicated that fans were available on request and as it was so hot, we asked for one. We were told that all of the fans were out with other guests. We asked again the next day and were told we could have a fan once people had checked out and returned one. Later that day with no sign of a fan (and the room becoming an almost unbearable temperature), we asked again to be told there was one in the cupboard in the room (there was not) and that there were no available fans. The attitude was that it was just tough and that there was nothing they could (or would) do.

The room was not cleaned once during the 4 night stay. We even had to ask for some toilet roll at reception. We still weren’t provided with any by the next day so in the end just stopped a cleaner to ask if they could give us toilet rolls/clean towels.

The waiting staff, although generally polite (with one or two exceptions) seemed overworked and untrained which caused mix ups and frustration.

Overall, the hotel itself has rooms and surroundings that are 4 star and has lovely potential, but the disorganised and sometimes disinterested attitude of the staff really let it down.

This was especially disappointing being that it was supposed to be a special trip and that isn’t time we will get back.

Although the hotel and the rooms were beautiful, a few simple things let the whole experience down. The first night, our whole group was stuck outside of our rooms (3 rooms) due to the key card system not working and so we had to get the kind staff in the restaurant to let us into our room. There was no help from reception to get this problem sorted out, and having gone back and looked at previous reviews, this problem has been occurring for months. Instead of the problem being sorted, we were just told to not leave the room once we were in as we would just be locked out again which was just very impractical. I had to be up and ready early in the morning and so I was thrilled to find out there was no hot water coming from the shower or the sink. Unfortunately time was stretched and so I had to enjoy a nice ice cold shower. For the amount paid for a room, I would expect to be able to securely get in and out of my room and have hot running water. Aside from that, the lovely welcoming touches upon entry to the room and the fantastic breakfast made up for the overall experience.

Dear KMM175, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us here on Trip Advisor. Please accept my apologies if you had an issue with your room key, our new room key machine had been here past few weeks and we have not had any issues with it. It sounds like your door maybe needed re-programmed, I will check this has been carried out with our maintenance team. I apologise once more if there was an issue with the hot water during your stay. I can assure you this is not normal practice here at Gleddoch and I do hope to get the opportunity to welcome you back to Gleddoch in the near future. Kind regards, James

The views are breathtaking and the hotel building is incredible, when we arrived at the room we released we never had a bath even though I booked the king room which included a bath, we called reception to see if we could be moved room, we waited around an hour and still no call back, we had to go down to reception to be told that most rooms have been refurbed and now only have showers and that they still have to “update the website” I thought this was poor.

The outdoor pool and facilities are amazing, the outdoor pool with the view really made it for us, we both had massages done on the second day, massage was okay, we sat in the relaxation room afterwards all we could hear was the spa therapists talking and gossiping, I thought this was really unprofessional.

The food was lovely, the menu is quite restricted but everything we had was done to a high standard. Service is very very slow, they seem really short staffed, sometimes we were waiting 20 mins on drinks arriving. We also requested fresh towels and toilet roll which we waited nearly 2 hours on to which we resorted to the local supermarket.

The service could definitely be better, and quicker, overall our stay was okay although I wouldn’t hurry back.

The place was stunning. The staff were incredible and so helpful, extremely polite and nothing was too much trouble. Faraque especially who was in the restaurant working was such a lovely gentleman, a credit to the place. His manager who we’re so sorry we have forgotten his name, was such a lovely pleasant guy. The staff basically both made our visit even better by going out their way and going beyond the realms to make sure we had somewhere comfortable to be with the dogs. The breakfast staff were superb in the mornings setting up our breakfast trays so we could take them back to the rooms so we didn’t have to leave the dogs. We must say, the staff are probably the nicest of staff we’ve had the pleasure of in any hotel we’ve stayed in!
