This is a great campground to stay at if you're intending to do the Routeburn Track. The sites are large and the surroundings are stunning. Just sit back, relax (with long sleeves, as the sandflies are in high spirits) and look at the greenery in which you find yourself. The only con is that there are only 2 toilets (drop toilets).
Stayed one night as the place was packed with a yoga group. There is a short 1 hour hike around this spot over the water and beyond that was pleasant. The site itself was very peaceful but having about 40 tenants and only 2 toilets was a wee bit of a problem in the morning. People were respectful of others so perhaps a average is a bit low.It is nice and close to trail heads which is a big plus.
We stayed one night. Very nice yes sandflys can be nasty but they knock off at dark. Fire spots plenty wood. Quiet pretty damm good for $6 per person per night. We did the walk and enjoyed it, we took the tram route back a little more adventurous but all flat walking, the little birds, and mossy surfaces beautiful. Toilets were on the nose, fellow travelers are sometimes gross. We left but returned the next night.
A campground has a WC and is located in beautiful place. The place is reachable also with campers. It was not too full and very silent location near small river. The area around is nice to explore, you can do many scenic walks. U can take a nice walk to lake Sylvain which is beautiful. In the campground there is a fireplace. Enjoy your stay!
