We love Glenorchy, always have, but have never stayed overnight as the limited accommodation options have always seemed dreary and bleak or entirely over-the-top (Blanket Bay).

Not anymore. Precipice Creek Station fills the Glenorchy lodging gap, and with real panache. I was very pleased to find their website during my accommodation search and I had high hopes, all of which were realized.

My spouse and I spent three wonderful nights here. It was the perfect choice for our 29th wedding anniversary and we’re already talking about ‘next time’.

We arrived in Glenorchy late on a cold June evening, and had to ask for directions at the pub, as it was seriously dark. When we reached the B&B we were greeted by friendly owner Vladka and her dogs, and shown into the spacious unit, which she’d kept warm and lit, awaiting our arrival. There was music playing on the stereo and we immediately felt welcome and at home.

The unit has everything a person could possibly want…it’s comfortable, spotless, well equipped and lovingly decorated. It’s finished to a very high standard and we felt incredibly spoiled. And that view….absolutely glorious!

Vladka and Richard obviously take a great deal of pride in their B&B and it shows in every detail. They’ve thought of everything, right down to the possum throws and the fleece bathrobes.

Each morning we were brought a breakfast tray laden with treats – fresh ciabatta rolls and croissants, homemade tarts, cereal, yogurt, fruit and juice. Vladka was eager to help us plan our walks for the day, and she offered some excellent first hand advice. We had some nice chats and learned that she’s a talented, accomplished woman. She and Richard have plans to expand the B&B and we very much look forward to visiting them again in their idyllic slice of heaven.

The location is breathtaking and Vladka is a most charming host. The accommodations are excellent and the breakfasts are amazing. I can't imagine a more perfect place to use as a base of exploration. We can't wait to return.

My husband and I recently stayed at this wonderful bed and breakfast in glenorchy. It was the nicest place at which we have ever stayed! The views were AMAZING! Mountains all around. Hikes are literally 5 minutes down the road. Very close to a lot of Lord of the Rings filming locations. We were fortunate to have clear nights and the stars were incredible. You have your own private entrance. The apartment is big with such nice amenities. The breakfast was huge. We had even forgotten to get groceries in queenstown and we ended up having enough food for lunch! What a spread for breakfast- yogurt, fruit, breads, cheese- it was a feast. We felt so welcomed. The animals were awesome- they have 3 dogs, a cat, 3 horses and 2 sheep. We never wanted to leave and ate dinner at the apartment. We loved that it was so quiet and away from everything. It was about 10 minutes from town center up a private road...the roaring creek would drown out any noise if there were any besides the occasional "moo" or "bah." You are surrounded by a beautiful yard dashed with lavender and fresh vegetables that make there way into your morning breakfast. We stayed for 3 nights and wished we had longer. We were sad to leave!

We stayed at Precipice Creek at the end of our South Island road trip, and it provided a suitable finale to a wonderful vacation. Amazing location, beautiful apartment (it's much more than just a bedroom), delicious included breakfast, and delightful hospitality provided by Vladka. Our only regret is that we only booked one night here - we could happily have spent many more days enjoying the place.

The photos on the website are beautiful and provide a reasonable approximation of what this place looks like. But until you settle down on the sunny front deck, gazing out past the horses and pasture at those astounding peaks, you can't fully appreciate what a special spot this is. Absolutely idyllic, and certainly a spot we will return to.

I recently stayed at Precipice Creek Station B&B for four nights and I have to say that it was one of the most memorable travel experiences I've ever had. From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed so genuinely by Vladka (the owner) and her beautiful animals. I felt completely at home in this magnificent place where the scenery is absolutely stunning, the B&B unit beautifully appointed, comfortable and cosy, the breakfasts simply amazing, and the informative guidance about what to do and where to go just perfect every time! Vladka has an outstanding knowledge of the Glenorchy area and she understands the impact of the changing weather patterns. This knowledge allows her to make suggestions based upon the weather conditions at the time. So helpful! Over my four days, I explored much of the area and experienced exquisite mountain and forest scenery. Vladka is incredibly generous with the effort she makes to ensure that her guests enjoy every moment of their time in this magnificent part of the world. The B&B unit is well-supplied with lovely crockery and glassware, a fabulous coffee plunger, a microwave and barbeque, quality linens as well as great reading material, DVDs and music - and the views from the front door of the unit provide 180 degrees of uninterrupted, breathtaking beauty! All in all, my time at Precipice Creek Station B&B was an unforgettable experience!

Please note: this is a very special B&B, not a hotel as it appears to be categorized at Tripadvisor.
After traveling for four weeks around the South Island, our 4 night starting stay at Precipice Creek Station is still looking perfectly. This B&B is holding up as amazingly well run: the extremely well prepared breakfast served in ones own "apartment" is just marvelous. And to be encouraged to take a little "provision" along on the hikes and excursions is a very pleasant way to have a great lunch while hiking. Location, location, location - it is everything: first the house in a perfect spot to enjoy all possible mountain views from the rooms and from the deck; second, a lot of great trails and hiking excursions are perfectly reachable in no time; third: the excursions along lake Wakatipu are truly unique and everything is easily accessible. The garden and the landscaping is very successful - it all works to make ones stay at Precipice Creek absolutely delightful. Last not least, the hosts are very helpful and knowledgeable in suggesting things to do in, are always there if one needs something and allow, at the same time, totally privacy.

Dear Klaus & Carol, thank you so much for your review, we are very happy that you have enjoyed our place and Glenorchy itself!! Just a small clarification for our potential future guests - we actually ARE in the Bed & Breakfast category on Tripadvisor and also our B&B is not one room, but a ONE-BEDROOM APARTMENT with a living room, kitchenette, ensuite bathroom and a bedroom - as the detailed description on our website and here says. Vladka & Richard, the owners/managers of Precipice Creek Station B&B

This place costs more than we usually pay for a place to stay, but we're so glad we decided to splurge a bit. We're a married couple in our early 60's, and we drove all over New Zealand for six weeks from mid-Oct through November, 2014 (spring season there). We'd say that Precipice Creek perhaps ties with one other B&B (in Hokitika) as the very best place we stayed during that six weeks. As for the Glenorchy area, the scenery is so beautiful that no one visiting the South Island should miss it.

In deciding to stay at Precipice Creek, the consistently high reviews on TA entered into our thinking, as did Precipice Creek's website. So we had very high expectations going in, and those expectations were met in every way. We'll simply confirm what so many others have already said. The room is beautiful, comfortable and private--you park in a covered carport which is between your room and Vladka and Richard's house. The breakfasts were huge, and the quality was great. Homemade breads and other baked goods; cold cuts; fruit; granola...with enough for us to make a sandwich or snack to take on our daytime hikes. The view of the mountains, right from the room, really is beautiful. It's as dramatic as any view we've ever had from a hotel room, and we've traveled pretty extensively over many years.

Vladka was very friendly and gave us some really good advice as to where to go in the area. For example, had we not talked with her, we might well have missed the Paradise area. The Lonely Planet book seemed to say that the road was rough enough that you need a four-wheel-drive or at least a sturdy car to go there. Vladka assured us that that was not the case, so we went in our little rental Nissan Tilda and enjoyed one of the most beautiful days, in one of the most beautiful spots, of our entire trip. She also pointed us to the hike up to the old Scheelite mine, which also yielded super-dramatic views over the lake, town, and mountains.

One other thing: If at all possible, you should stay more than one or two nights. We went in the spring, and the weather was pretty "unstable." We booked four nights at Precipice Creek, and our first three days there were mostly rain and clouds. Had some nice mountain views from the room, but we really couldn't do much hiking. Fortunately, we were able to extend our stay two more nights (for six nights total) and got much better weather during our final couple of days. There's plenty to keep you busy for a number of days: Paradise, the Glenorchy Lagoon walk, the hike to the Scheelite mine, a day hike up the Routeburn track, among other things.

Bottom line: We loved Precipice Creek and Glenorchy and definitely hope to return.

The view from the beautiful room was breathtaking. We could have sat looking out of the windows or sitting the huge gardens for many hours. We loved it here and would have loved to stay longer. I loved the really fresh breakfast with nice bread and berries. Don't miss out on spending some time in Glenorchy on your travels to New Zealand. The walks around here are great.

Wonderful little B & B. Private apartment is separate from the main house. Beautiful views of the snow capped mountains beyond the perfectly designed and maintained grounds. Host Vladka Kennett is a professional tour guide and is knowledgeable about what to see and do in Glenorchy and way beyond. She made many suggestions that turned out to be perfect for our stay in Glenorchy as well as other parts of NZ.

Located in quiet Glenorchy, with a beautiful view from your bedroom and living room. Kitchenette provided and good breakfast. Friendly service.
Great for animal lovers, 3 friendly dogs, 1 cat, sheep and horses.
Really spacious living room with modern furniture, bathroom rather small.
Certainly not cheap, but a real treat after walking the Routeburn.
