In all other respects the hotel was ideal as a stopover. It was clean with a friendly and helpful person on reception. As we did not fancy the next door McDonald's, he offered to direct us to reception although instead we opted to use the microwave in reception.
However, we had been used to a standard of bed with the Accor brand, regardless of the budget level and this hotel did not meet the minimum in that regard. The shower was function but was definitely the smallest that we had ever seen.
When we climbed the stairs up to the room we could smell this strong sewerage smell, but we just assumed it was due to the age of the hotel and the pipes being old.
When we got to the room the smell became more pronounced, especially in the bathroom, so we flushed the toilet and opened the window in the hope that when we returned from Bordeaux the smell would have passed.
We had a fantastic day in Bordeaux and around 10pm we returned to the hotel. We wanted to get showered and ready for the next day as we wanted to leave for Paris around 5:30am to avoid all the traffic.
I started taking a shower but, the water wasn’t draining down the shower plug hole, and instead it was overflowing over the shower tray and onto the bathroom, bedroom and hallway floor. The water was EVERYWHERE ! I was so stressed!!!
I immediately got dressed and went downstairs, but there was nobody in reception overnight, so I used the intercom and spoke to a nice lady in the "call centre" who contacted the hotel manager.
The lady said there was nothing she could do, and when I said “where am I meant to sleep” she said I would have to place towels and bedding on the floor and sleep in the same room. All I wanted was another room, a clean room which is what I paid for, but there was nothing the lady on the intercom could do.
I was extremely stressed. My partner couldn’t have a shower and my dog had nowhere to sleep as all the floor was completely wet. We tried to make the best we could with the blankets and towels we had, but still, we had to sleep in a room smelling of disgusting sewerage water and my dog was starting to become unwell.
We had a horrible night of broken sleep, we barely slept at all. The next morning we waited until 7:30am and I went to reception and asked for the manager.
This very arrogant lady came up to the desk and said she was the manager. When I asked if she spoke English she said NO. This is absolutely absurd!!! You have signs in English all over the hotel, the receptionist that did the check in the day before spoke perfect English but yet the HOTEL MANAGER said she didn’t speak any English… I don’t believe this is true.
I used an app on my phone to translate our problem, which the manager was of course already aware of, and asked for a refund. The manager took one very dismissive look at me and shook her head and said NO. When I challenged her as to why, she said “c’est les regles” it’s the rules.
I have never come across such a rude and arrogant person in all the years I’ve stayed in many hotels, not only your budget ones but also many of the others in the Accor group. This so-called manager is not suited to her position, has no compassion for guests whatsoever and didn’t even have the decency of apologising ! The only person in accor that apologise was the lady on the intercom, who obviously couldn’t do anything else as she sits in a central location answering calls.
As a consequence we didn’t leave Bordeaux till the late morning, meaning that we got caught up in all the traffic. Because we had a terrible night of broken sleep we also had to stop a few times to have naps, in order to finish our drive to Paris, as well as the fact that our beautiful dog spent the whole day vomiting from licking the floor in the room which was covered in dirty water !
We didn’t get to Paris until the evening on the 11th of Semptember and as a consequence we missed out on a whole day in Paris. We paid extra money to stay in another Ibis (71.8eur) so that we could stay near Paris. If we had known, we could’ve stayed in a cheaper hotel further away from Paris.
I am still trying to get compensation, the only thing Accor have offered so far is a very standard copy-paste apology, and only offered a refund of 57EUR - absolutely no compensation for my dog being ill, for the stress we suffered and the day we missed in Paris as a consequence. Worst experience of my life! Never again!!!
