The Hikyo-no-yu is a very pleasant and very Japanese hotel and Olsen. The hotel is spacious and has a wonderful view onto the mountains. It is a bit awkward moving from building to building as it is built on a mountainside but this is not a real inconvenience. The staff is large and well-trained and there is enough English to provide assistance. The meals are well-organized and you can make requests (with sufficient notice before the meal) if you need accommodation regarding food allergies. We were in the western annex but with futons and it was quite comfortable. The wireless doesn’t make its way to the annex, by the way. The rooms are large with great views. If you just accept that you are in Japan and not in Europe you will be happy - the staff here are very welcoming and accommodating. …

We just returned from Japan and our two nights at this hotel were terrible. We were given a room in the annex. The room smelled of stale cigarette smoke and dirty feet. The tatami mats and walls were dirty, and the bathroom awful. The AC did not work, but fortunately we could leave the window open all night for ventilation. If you stay here, avoid the basic Japanese style rooms in the annex. The main hotel may be better. The breakfast is the worst ever. Ice cold eggs with sausage. No service, and no interest in taking care of the guests.

Perched on a hill-top, we stayed in a Japanese styled room situated within the main building. The room itself is spacious, new and clean. There is a an attached bathroom, good for guests who are not keen to use the onsen facilities. The room also comes with a nice view of Iya Valley. Our package include dinner and breakfast. Both meals were delicious and served in very nice settings. On the onsen, there are both indoor as well as an outdoor pools for both genders. Most enjoyable stay. Only regret was we could not stay for another day

Set in a mountainous part of Shikoku Island (the smallest of the four main islands of Japan), this is a traditional hot springs resort hotel. I stayed in the annex, which involved changing elevators - - which was no problem once the pattern was clear. The spa facility is large and nicely designed. There is both an indoor spa (separated by gender) and similar outdoor facilities (which I did not try). Dinners were excellent. The room I was in had the traditional futon on the floor - - based on my experience sleeping the first night I had to double up the futon for the second night.

Hotel is modern , room is spacious , dinner is full of local flavours , delicious and with right portion , staff are friendly and helpful , spa has multiple pools with different designs and supposedly will address different problems of our body as well. The only thing i want to complain is the smoke smell in my room , all non-smokers will know what I am talking about

My wife and I stayed in this hotel on a tour. It is in the beautiful Iya Valley of Shikoko, Japan. The spa hotel has western and Japanese style rooms. The highlight is the great spa with bathing area for men and women separately. No clothing allowed. It has multiple pools inside and on outside for each sex. It is a great experience after a day or touring the area. The Japanese style restaurant is also excellent and the staff is very friendly.

We stayed here on a Tuesday and Wednesday in January 2016, and I think there were maybe 10 other guests in the hotel. This was great, actually, as the place was extremely quiet and peaceful; you can see from the hotel's multi-tier parking garage that they likely do a huge business in the spring, summer and fall. If you have a car, this is a good base to access all the local points of interest (Tsurugi and Miune moutains, Nagoro village, other onsens, Kurozou Marshland). Our room was huge and well-appointed. The onsen is nice, particularly after a long day of winter hiking. Breakfast is tasty and filling. The onsen restaurant is not open on Tuesday night, and most local places shut down at or before 5 pm; the onsen restaurant has an English menu and had a fluent English speaker on staff when we visited. Free, fast in-room wifi.…

The setting in the Iya Valley is absolutely lovely and we had fabulous views of the mountains from our room. The room itself had some stains on the floor but was clean otherwise. Room is large, bathroom consists of two tiny rooms with sink and shower/tub in one room and toilet in separate room. The ryokan layout is confusing as there are three separate buildings and the internal corridors will take you from 6th floor of one building to the 1st floor of another building.

Stayed two nights in a Japanese style room with a futon which was pretty comfortable, room was clean with very small bathroom.the view of the mountains was beautiful. This hotel has an unusual design , going to my room I had to take the elevator to the sixth floor then take a long hallway and take another elevator to the fourth floor of the annex. The dinner was good and breakfast was only fair. There are three hot spring pools , one is outdoor with a large locker, all looked clean.
