Praia Do Canal took me by surprise with how much I absolutely fell in love with their resort and location. I am 100% returning at some point in my life to spend more time at this incredible place.
The resort itself is gorgeous. Minimalist concept and just so aesthetically pleasing. The setting is so serene, calm, quiet and truly immersed in nature. The rooms are beautiful, clean and large. The bed was a dream to sleep on - so so soft. My balcony had two little seats on the porch that I spent my afternoons reading and listening to the birds. Bathroom is also huge with a double vanity, a bathtub, a walk in shower, and another area for the toilet and bidet.
The spa is very beautiful but small. So they weren't able to get us in for treatments unfortunately because they were sold out during our stay. We did, however, make an appointment to use the amenities which were awesome. We enjoyed the steam room, sauna, cold plunge, and their indoor/outdoor swim out pool with a view which was lovely.
The restaurant itself was phenomenal. My favorite meal of my entire trip through Portugal was at this resort. I had the razor clams and left like a happy clam myself. I tried to get them again the next night but they were out of them. So sad.
The location is definitely a bit off the beaten track but it is worth it. We took one of the trails from the resort towards the ocean and it was gorgeous. I wish I had more time to explore more of the trails but we were only there for two nights.
I really could go on and on about Praia Do Canal. If you are reading this and wondering if you should book it - 10000% YES.

Praia do Canal is a nicely designed hotel in a natural park near the western coast of Portugal. Before our stay we were not very happy since they had partially cancelled our booking due a large group arriving. This can happen and they offered us another accommodation but the price they quoted was much higher than regular rates.
Once we arrived everything was very nice and of a very high standard without being overdone. The rooms are very well designed and perfectly kept. Breakfast is fantastic and the restaurant is excellent though somewhat pricey. The surrounding area is beautiful and invites to walk and hike along the coast.
The wellness area is excellent, very clean and well maintained and they have a beautiful infinity pool with views to the countryside. Unfortunately the wellness area is quite small and the capacity is restricted most of the time so you should really book your times in advance.

We spent two nights at this wonderful hotel. Quiet and blissful with beautiful surroundings. The staff and service were amazing. Welcoming and helpful. The rooms were large, clean and with lovely large glass doors that looked out onto the nature.
Dinner was delightful and the spa offered highly professional treatments and again from a warm and service minded staff.
We will definitely return.
Small hint for directions, make sure to put in the gps, Canal do Praia Resort and not just Canal do Praia otherwise you will end up on a long, challenging and sandy road to the beach! The actually road to the resort is also sandy but unfortunately due to government protection laws for the nature reservation the hotel cannot do anything about it.

I really wanted to love this resort. Had very high expectations, considering it’s the only resort in this area :(
The good:
The architecture is beautiful, especially for the nature reserve it’s in. The rooms were spacious with one of the best bathrooms amenities! Very clean and modern. One of my favorite elements: the heated towels at night!
Fantastic breakfast spread- lots of different options!
The bad:
Spa:
We booked a massage a few days in advance at the spa front desk… the morning of the massage we show up to find out our booking is gone? Ends up a couple had been booked instead of our time slot. The worst part 1) we were only informed after changing into the spa robes 2) our booking just did not exist! I do think there should be a staff member who is dedicated solely to managing the spa reception instead of the spa personnel multitasking. I was really looking forward to the massage (especially since it was booked in advance + I woke up early for it!) and it’s a shame that I had to miss out on it due to double booking…
As a resort- usually the expectation is that the spa is an area for relaxing. That was not the case. The morning we booked the massage appointment, the small reception was overrun with guests and loud children creating a chaotic atmosphere.
Breakfast: we showed up at 10:30 to find that we couldn’t be seated for at least 20 minutes! I was getting anxious that we wouldn’t be served breakfast!
Lunch by the pool: 90€ for 3 dishes!!! I understand it’s a nature reserve and one cannot reckon the force of nature. The wasps really hurt the experience (and again I understand that it’s a nature reserve, etc), it was impossible to eat outside without being swarmed by vicious wasps :( I had to surrender half of my chicken to these beasts.
Children: it would be nice if this was an adult only hotel. Woken up to kids screaming outside at 8am. Running around screeching in the breakfast restaurant.
Room: the only downside of the room was that as soon as you take the key card out, ALL electricity is shut off. We had a few items in the fridge, thinking it would be ok while we’re exploring the coast, to find out the fridge shuts off too! Our items in the fridge spoiled :(
Overall, beautiful hotel but there needs to be better organization :)

My husband and I are on our last day at Praia Do Canal and although the hotel itself is aesthetically pleasing and the nature resort stunning and peaceful, the hotel just does not live up to a 5 star experience.
We arrived at midday after a long morning of travelling and I wouldn’t say the greeting was particularly warm. The room wasn’t ready as check in isn’t till 3 which is fine but when we asked if there was somewhere we could get some food or a snack that answer was not till one when the poolside bar opens. The menu was very limited and they didn’t have a few things on the menu, the beverages were also limited and they didn’t have 2 out of the 3 beers. The prices were high so you did feel like you were being taken advantage of being so remote. Overall I don’t feel the food and drink offering was up to a 5 star standard.
Given the remoteness of the hotel we planned to spend our time partaking in some of the activities the hotel had on offer however the 1 hour horse riding experience was fully booked for our entire stay and so we were not able to do this which was disappointing. They offered us a 2 hour experience but that was almost 500 Euros. I would suggest booking well in advance.
The spa is small and only allows 4 people at a time in their pool so again availability was limited.
Overall, we didn’t feel that this hotel lived up to the 5 star rating and we ended up spending quite a lot of time outside of the hotel, thank god we had a rental car. There are many hidden charges - 15 euros for room service delivery!

Really everything is beyond perfect: the architecture, the location, the services, the rooms, the ambiance, the service level, the kindness of the staff, the music, the bird sounds, the drinks, the food, etc. Really amazing. Everything.

A beautiful hotel in a superb location. Unfortunately, our delight soon gave way to disappointment. During our stay, we were confronted with a rather mediocre and very irregular service.
A few examples:
- Surf lessons were not booked as requested
- The kayak excursion was booked at the wrong time.
- Very slow service at breakfast. Bread and drinks often arrived late and orders were not honoured.
- The lawn in front of our terrace had not been mown for some time.
In addition, we found the temperature of the outdoor pool too low for the season. Most of the time the pool was deserted by guests. Obviously, the volume of water is too large to be heated naturally by the sun. The choice was made to prioritise design over customer comfort.
To make matters worse, the management, to whom I expressed my concerns, asked me to fill in a customer survey, which I am still wait for.. there is clearly a deeper management issue that demands to be fixed.

Our stay was short but powerful, the hotel has an incredible architecture, a unique and stunning design, Marcelo always accompanied us showing us the whole hotel and explaining all the design and architecture that almost seemed to have been him making the hotel, always with class and ready for anything we needed, thank you Marcelo for making our stay one of the best we have ever had, he is the essence of the hotel you can see that he loves the place where he works. The whole team was fantastic, from the front office to the restaurant and housekeeping. The Spa could do with a bit of a facelift - good staff but the interpersonal relationship needs to improve. Apart from that, the food is marvellous, congratulations to the other Marcelo, this hotel is well in the hands of the Marcelos. We hope to return soon. Thank you

We loved our stay at this resort and extended our stay by 2 nights. Service, rooms, restaurant, all perfect. This appears to be a newer property with a lovely organic, but modern design. We had a room with a beautiful view of the preserve and the ocean in the distance. The remoteness or the property makes it very quiet and peaceful. I enjoyed a massage at their spa, which was great. We are already looking for an occasion to return.
