The staff here are just wonderful…the most welcoming and happiest I have come across in ages… perhaps it is the wonderful surroundings?
We stayed as a one night jolly as part of a visit to Shrewsbury. There is a city park and ride 5 minutes from the hotel which is also very convenient.
Room was very pretty with a wonderful view.
The breakfast was very good, I had full English which was cooked to order.
Slightly disappointed in my evening meal but that might have been a bad choice rather than the cooking. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his.
We would definitely come again..though…
A few little things to mention,
There is no lift and our room was two floors up and the stairs were very steep, quite prohibitive for some people with cases.
Our room was a tad cold, it was November after all, and the room was not as warm as I would like it.
The walls between rooms are very thin, we could hear the people in the next room quite clearly.
The hospitality tray had no teaspoon and a couple more ordinary tea bags would have been appreciated.
Lastly, and I know this is petty, if you order some crisps with your pre dinner drinks it would be so much nicer to put them in a dish not put the bag on the table… not very classy.
However all said this is a classy establishment and though a wedding venue primarily, it makes a great place to stay visiting Shrewsbury and the area if you can booked in!

We attended a local auction and needed a place to stay the night. After looking at the price of a local Travelodge, we discovered we could stay in a Castle and feel like an Earl for one night for few pounds more! From the minute we arrived, we felt very welcome and valued. I couldn’t fault the room and they very kindly even gave us a room upgrade too with beautiful view over the gardens and the Welsh Hills. Full English breakfast in the morning was faultless. All the staff are very friendly but Johann and Lorraine are two standouts and are an asset to this venue. This is normally an up market wedding venue but mid week and in low season you can stay in luxury at a great price point. Thank you again for a really lovely stay and we hope to pass your way again sometime soon.

We stayed for one nights in September during a ‘non wedding’ period - apparently this is approximately 30 days a year.

Easily found with plenty of parking.

Extensive, well maintained grounds in both parkland and a formal style for the outdoor wedding area.

Welcoming, friendly and efficient staff throughout.

The property is furnished in a mix of pastel/pale country house and traditional ‘baronial’ styles - it worked very well for us with a dislike of modern/minimalistic (and often uncomfortable!) styling.

Our traditionally furnished twin room on the top floor was of a decent size, comfortable and clean with an excellent modern bathroom. Please note that there is no aircon for warmer nights.

There is no lift, but assistance is offered with bags.

The restaurant is a low ceiling traditional wood panelled affair, and it works very well. Proper linen on the tables. As previously stated staff efficient and friendly, no ‘sniffy’ service here. The evening meal was excellent with well cooked/presented high quality ingredients. Some decent wines available at reasonable prices, with some more expensive choices for those so inclined. Breakfast was cooked to order and to a decent standard served by a friendly team of ladies.

The comfortable and welcoming lounge (country house style) had wonderfully high ceilings with full length windows offering great views of the well tended gardens.

An excellent experience - we just hope that it’s a ‘non wedding’ period when we’re back in the area!

Attended here for my brothers wedding, beautiful location! Beautiful castle inside and out. Staff were very friendly and professional. Rooms were very period/modern with everything you could need (iron, ironing board, hairdryer, tea and coffee, biscuits and bottled water! Spotlessly clean! VERY VERY warm tho had to open windows which made little difference, used the fans provided tho which helped! We stayed in a turret room with the view of well nothing but terrible flashing repairs but the room made up for it. The food on the wedding day was super! Overall great day and great stay

Simply the best hotel I have stayed in in over 10 years. The castle itself was stunning to behold and the grounds were breath-taking and incredibly well kept. Parking was spacious and easy to locate. Apon entering I was greeted by the wonderfully friendly and professional staff. So kind and welcoming nothing was too much trouble simply a credit to the hotel.
The interior of the castle was so beautiful i will remember it for many years to come, Very historic an steeped in history it was a joy to behold, truly. My room (9) was well no other word suites, perfect. Spotlessly clean and easily the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. Period correct antique furnishings really set the mood for this remarkable experience.
Bathroom was fabulous also clean and well appointed no complaints. The grounds are amazing and well worth a look around very peaceful and a feast for the eyes. My sleep was again perfect and incredibly silent no disruptions all night so very pappy indeed.
I was greeted by the lovely lady during Breakfast in the morning, she was so friendly and a credit to the hotel again nothing was too much bother 10/10. The breakfast itself was so delicious and very well presented and quality of ingredients was top drawer which I appreciate. Highly recommended.

The wedding of our niece and her fiancé this first weekend of June 2024, and booked back in early 2020. It's been a traumatic world in that time but worth the wait.

The castle is superb and we were lucky enough to experience an outdoors ceremony as the weather was very good. It's so much less stuffy done this way and the gardens and grounds of the hotel are beautiful, with wonderful views in all directions.

We also stayed in one of the bed rooms overnight, which was located right at the top of a tower, overlooking the gardens and countryside to the rear. The sunset and sunrise were spectacular.

The hotel is beautifully decorated, making it light and modern for an old building. The staff were great, though there was a hiccup at check-in where our room had been given to the wrong guests. Normally fine, but our niece had placed presents in there for us; awkward. All sorted later though.

The food was very good with a delicious wedding lunch and BBQ food later in the garden for guests to enjoy all night. There were three bars in use throughout the proceedings but it was a bit of a shame that when we got there a bit early, we couldn't get a drink. Luckily they pointed us at the leisure club in the grounds where we were able to quench our thirst.

All in all, a fantastic location to get married and great old building to do it in. Every detail was so well executed and all I saw were lots of happy people.

Highly recommend.

I organised a surprise birthday for my wife. Asked for a private room, for a party of 9 for dinner and drinks. The hotel quickly arranged this, there was no fuss and no request for deposits until a week before the date.

Also asked for the guests to be escorted into the room 15 minutes before we arrived and everything was perfectly on time. My wife was thrilled with the surprise, the room was wonderful and spacious .

The manager played the role to perfection, pointing to the door to relax there just before dinner, which lead her directly into our party.

No problems to set up the balloons and flowers and organise the welcome drinks.

Dinner was excellent, a menu selection of a 3 course set up, everyone was very pleased with their choices and commented on was well everything was cooked and presented.

Drinks were retrieved from the bar just outside our room, the waitress was friendly and efficient.

Pricing for the evening was quite reasonable in my opinion.

The service was good and just enough attention to feel welcome and not intrusive.

Overall a great night and would recommend Rowton castle for parties or just an evening out.

Thank you to Rowton castle and all the staff for hosting providing a special evening for us all.

A one night, dinner bed and breakfast deal on a Monday for us. Just under £180. Nice room, decent bed, and a good night sleep so no complaints there.
Dinner exceeded expectations. This is essentially a wedding venue, and I expected a decent meal but with a mass catering look to it. Not so. My wife had a Sirloin steak that she rated better tasting and more tender than its equivalent served up up in a specialist steak house in Manchester two weeks ago and at less than half the cost.
I had chicken escalope. Moist meat. Crumbly coating and a full plate - very nice.. Good produce, very well cooked, and nice, efficient staff keeping us all happy.
Outstanding views from any window. Bottom line for us- a great value overnight stay.
I maybe should add. The previous night we paid £290 for a similar deal in a hotel in Market Drayton. In the car on the way home both my wife and I agreed that we got poor value for our money on the first night, and really good value on our second night. Well worth a try people, but avoid wedding days goes without saying for a relaxing overnight stay

What can we say but thank you to Gareth, Ryan and all the team for making our most special day perfect!
So personal, professional & caring. This team are first class. The attention to detail is truly exceptional especially where guests food allergies etc. Are concerned. The food was extroadinarily amazing. We were hoping for an outfoors wedding ceremony and luckily grear weather allowed it. Bringing your own wine wifh no corkage was a big plus!! Really it just comes down to the fact they care about their guests foremost. A member of their staff summed it up by saying they had been praying for good weather but they feel like guests to our wedding. There are no more words but thank you best day of our lives.

I can't answer re the cost of the beers, but I can say they have a good selection of beers including craft beers. I believe they have two bars, one bar inside one bar outside. The staff are very friendly so I'm sure if you called the Rowton castle they would answer your questions probably better than myself. It's a beautiful place to visit.

Yes you can. Then you can park in the adequate car park. It’s a little incline from the car park so be mindful. Hope this helps.
