We were on a month long tour of NZ and this was one of our standout stop offs. This was the big extravagance for our silver wedding anniversary and it did not disappoint. The room was excellent and truly luxurious with private deck with amazing views. The most amazing part was the privately catered evening meal. (we happened to be the only couple that evening). An excellent private chef cooking delicious food and supplying amazing wines. Worth every penny and a memory we will keep for ever.

We stayed here for one night in March 2023 and had a wonderful experience. The Lodge has four villas I believe but we happened to be the only guests on that particular night. Sharon made us feel right at home and we really enjoyed getting to know her. She prepared a meat and cheese platter for us on our arrival and we got to sample some of the vineyard's wines. She drove us into town that evening for dinner and picked us up afterward to make the evening stress-free for us (she also has a service where she will prepare dinner for you at the Lodge but we didn't get to try this - I'm sure it would have been wonderful). Our room was very nice and a beautiful sunrise view. Sharon then made us a great breakfast in the morning and provided good recommendations for hiking later in the day. We would have enjoyed spending more than one night here. Highly recommend if you are in the Matakana area.

Had a lovely time on our return visit thanks to Sharon "mine host" who is a font of knowledge and a fantastic chef, using local produce in the main. Fantastic views out to The Barrier Islands, nice and peaceful spot and the massages are to be recommended.

From the moment we arrived we were made feel welcome and were spoilt. This is a place we will definitely return to. Sadly, in this instance, we only got to stay one night. During this time we enjoyed a fantastic dinner accompanied by several of the vineyards high quality wines and a scrumptious cooked breakfast setting us up for our return home. The location is close to several attractions, the view over the vineyard to the water is lovely, the rooms are comfortable and spotlessly clean and the manager, Sharon, great company, informative and willing to go out of her way to insure guests are happy and rested. We will definitely be returning and recommend, if you are in this area, look at Takatu for your stay and most certainly explore the option of dining in.

Recently we stayed at the Lodge and were pleasantly surprised by the high standard of facilities and the extremely warm reception by Sharon The Manager. Unfortunately, our stay was cut short due to the need to pass through Auckland before the February 2021 Covid lockdown was put into effect. We however plan to return and will extend our stay so we can complete our planned tour of the area. Sharon went out of her way to assist us late at night to leave and return to our home in Tauranga providing coffee and sandwiches for the trip when we left at 11 pm after receiving the Covid Lockdown alert one hour earlier. While we were in residence we received a sumptuous three-course dinner served with the appropriate wines and a great full breakfast, before Sharon took us to the Matakana Market and returned later in the day to pick us up after a visit to the superb Scupltureum. Highly recommend staying here if you would like to pamper yourself and my wife and I both had superb body massages as part of the package. Great views from our room overlooking the vineyard ( where picking of the grapes was taking place) out to sea looking at Little Barrier with Great Barrier in the distance.

We only stayed one night our mistake this place is out of this world, great location looking over the vineyard to the sea. We were greeted on arrival by Elizabeth such a lovely welcome glass or two of wine plus cheese, then we meet Sharon and we were asked if we had any food allergies before being shown to a fabulous room with magnificent views. Dinner was a treat starting with the white wines, then canapas, then the starter of Marinated Snapper followed by Rack of Lamb and their Red wine. On our return to NZ we will stay much longer and explore the local region. Just out of this world.

My only regret about this stay is that it was only 1 night. You are made so welcome by Sharon and Elizabeth from the moment you arrive until you leave. Such attention to detail in the room, food and service. You feel very special and pampered staying here and everything is of highest quality. We opted to have dinner at the lodge and so glad we did as was different and delightful. Sharon catered very well for our dietary needs and we had a great night with other guests. I am not a wine drinker but my husband very much enjoyed the variety of wines. Room was luxury and beautiful views. We stayed here early in our 31 day trip but was one of my top 3 places to stay. Very relaxing and enjoyable and would highly recommend.

I chose this establishment to celebrate our 45th wedding anniversary - my shares in my wife's eyes went sky high ! Right from the time of booking online the lovely people at Takatu stressed & ensured that nothing was too much trouble and they were so very receptive to the touches I hoped for. Sharon apart from being the hostess 'extraordinaire' is also an accomplished chef up there with the very best !! Elizabeth was the welcoming 'committee' on arrival and looked after sooo very well such that checkin was - well what checking we had arrived so we were there. Amazing facilities and everything catered for included the underfloor hetarin not only in the bathroom but also the under carpet in the bedroom. Views out across Makatana to Little and Great Barrier Islands made for a fantsatci and enjoyable time. Thankyou ladies for a magic time - I am in your debt !!

We had THE BEST time at Takatu! We could not have been more relaxed if we had checked into a spa for the evening. Walking the grounds, chatting with our super-friendly hosts, Mary & Sharon, looking out to the ocean, cows, and sheep----bliss! PURE BLISS! We will stay for a week next time. Visited the fabulous Tawharanui Regional Park but otherwise wanted to stay put and make the most of our short visit! The breakfast was exquisite and delicious---we felt pampered to the extreme. Breathe in the intoxicating Matakana air....ahhhhh. Did we mention that you can stargaze from your deep soaking bathtub?!?!
