From the moment we arrived we were made feel welcome and were spoilt. This is a place we will definitely return to. Sadly, in this instance, we only got to stay one night.

During this time we enjoyed a fantastic dinner accompanied by several of the vineyards high quality wines and a scrumptious cooked breakfast setting us up for our return home.

The location is close to several attractions, the view over the vineyard to the water is lovely, the rooms are comfortable and spotlessly clean and the manager, Sharon, great company, informative and willing to go out of her way to insure guests are happy and rested.

We will definitely be returning and recommend, if you are in this area, look at Takatu for your stay and most certainly explore the option of dining in.

Recently we stayed at the Lodge and were pleasantly surprised by the high standard of facilities and the extremely warm reception by Sharon The Manager. Unfortunately, our stay was cut short due to the need to pass through Auckland before the February 2021 Covid lockdown was put into effect. We however plan to return and will extend our stay so we can complete our planned tour of the area. Sharon went out of her way to assist us late at night to leave and return to our home in Tauranga providing coffee and sandwiches for the trip when we left at 11 pm after receiving the Covid Lockdown alert one hour earlier. While we were in residence we received a sumptuous three-course dinner served with the appropriate wines and a great full breakfast, before Sharon took us to the Matakana Market and returned later in the day to pick us up after a visit to the superb Scupltureum. Highly recommend staying here if you would like to pamper yourself and my wife and I both had superb body massages as part of the package. Great views from our room overlooking the vineyard ( where picking of the grapes was taking place) out to sea looking at Little Barrier with Great Barrier in the distance.

We only stayed one night our mistake this place is out of this world, great location looking over the vineyard to the sea. We were greeted on arrival by Elizabeth such a lovely welcome glass or two of wine plus cheese, then we meet Sharon and we were asked if we had any food allergies before being shown to a fabulous room with magnificent views. Dinner was a treat starting with the white wines, then canapas, then the starter of Marinated Snapper followed by Rack of Lamb and their Red wine. On our return to NZ we will stay much longer and explore the local region. Just out of this world.

We stayed here for one night in March 2023 and had a wonderful experience. The Lodge has four villas I believe but we happened to be the only guests on that particular night. Sharon made us feel right at home and we really enjoyed getting to know her. She prepared a meat and cheese platter for us on our arrival and we got to sample some of the vineyard's wines. She drove us into town that evening for dinner and picked us up afterward to make the evening stress-free for us (she also has a service where she will prepare dinner for you at the Lodge but we didn't get to try this - I'm sure it would have been wonderful). Our room was very nice and a beautiful sunrise view. Sharon then made us a great breakfast in the morning and provided good recommendations for hiking later in the day. We would have enjoyed spending more than one night here. Highly recommend if you are in the Matakana area.

I stayed at the Takatu Lodge for a night with my mum last weekend. It was an incredible experience. Beautiful lodge, scenery, Sharon is the most amazing host, we were served beautiful and innovative food that matched perfectly with the wine we tasted. I would highly recommend Takatu Lodge. We are home and we're still raving about Takatu Lodge and Vineyard! The hostess was fabulous. The setting divine. The room over the top. We were tried from driving and hiking and eagerly accepted wine from the vineyard after the hostess offered to pop into town and pick up dinner for us! Otherwise, we might have been too tired to drive to town for food. Having our laundry completed was a real time saver for our trip and greatly appreciated. I would love to bring my family back in the future and really relax and enjoy ourselves to the fullest. Wish we had stayed longer in such a fabulous setting. Thank you Sharron!

We were on a month long tour of NZ and this was one of our standout stop offs. This was the big extravagance for our silver wedding anniversary and it did not disappoint.
The room was excellent and truly luxurious with private deck with amazing views.
The most amazing part was the privately catered evening meal. (we happened to be the only couple that evening). An excellent private chef cooking delicious food and supplying amazing wines. Worth every penny and a memory we will keep for ever.

I was fortunate enough to be hosted at this lodge with my partner.
I was aware of the status of Takatu wine and the high quality of its reputation within the world of wine.
However, what I gained most exceptionally from this visit was being able to see and to gain an insight into the passion of John and Heather through their determination to develop wine of exceptional quality using the purest methodology amidst a lodge of exceptional quality. I gained a sense of genuine friendship from our hosts who spent time amongst their respective busy lives to take/make the time to share accounts of their journey with my partner and I as well as to enable them to host us to a very high standard.
For me this was more than a place in paradise to lay our heads, but a place where I was able to be invigorated by the passion of a couple who took the risks with a purest vision and who are continuing to strive to achieve the most highest of standards.
The area is only 45 minutes from Central Auckland and seems a world away. The beach at Buckleton's Beach is a gem too with the nearby townships of Matakana and Puhoi providing divergent impressions of current rural living. The determination of the local people to prevent and/or manage the challenges of the "big city developments" is to be admired and to be commended and to be totally encouraged as the "big city way" is not the way for everyone.

This lodge is the absolute best place of more than a dozen we stayed on our 3 week trip to New Zealand. The vineyard setting was superb, as were the hosts Heather and John. The lodge is contemporary with earthy and natural accents and has been featured in many design and travel magazines.
Every detail has been considered in the design! The rooms are sublime and the sheets are the best money can buy. The bathrooms are huge and feature a great oval tub set close to the vineyards and views of the sea.
The chef comes in every morning from down the road and whips up an amazing organic breakfast using local ingredients. The wine tasting features their own wines and olive oil from their farm.
We stayed the first two days of our trip and sadly nothing after even compared. It is worth every penny!
