The host at this venue was there when needed, and vanished when not... making this a perfect spot. Local area attractions were easy to get to, and plentiful... or, just reading one of the good books laid on, or playing a boardgame in the rain!? Magical. So often, the 'host' is underfoot, it's a special balance between 'being there' and 'being invisable'... This place's got Charm written all over it!
Whether you are and equestrian or not, this is a lovely place to spend a few days out of the city. Drive up a windy gravel drive lined with trees to this wonderful spot with 2 horses grazing, a small stable and a sand arena. Polished riding boots in the entryway and bits on display give it a Dutch country house meets Elle Decor aesthetic. The rooms are small, tastefully decorated and comfortable plus you have a view of the pool and the rolling countryside beyond. There is a mini baby grand piano in the sitting room! The linens were very nice and each armoire had robes for both shower and pool. The rooms and grounds were carefully maintined and spotless. And, breakfast was sumptuous! The hosts were especially welcoming and thoughtful. I will definitely return on my next visit to NZ and bring my breeches! Recommend renting a car to get to Matakana and Warkworth. While in there, be sure to get to Omaha Beach and Brick Bay for lunch and the sculpture park walk.…
A superb, luxury B&B, clean, comfortable beds, tranquil views.Pool, spa,air conditioning, fresh water, coffee machine and a lovely breakfast over looking the pool area. Helen and Willem were perfect hosts and gave us great tips to see the area. The location is central to everywhere, highly recommend as the place to stay. Thanks Helen & Willem - David & Gillian
Quail lodge accommodation is welcoming and comfortable. Helen and Willem are wonderful hosts who are easy to engage with and they really try. Breakfast is delicious with great coffee. The views from the lounge out to the countryside are beautiful. l loved Bella the golden retriever. The Matakana area is special. Amazing seafood, ice cream, restaurants and beaches. My favourite place was Matheson Bay. Just beautiful turquoise sea and Pohutakawa trees. Best fish and chips at Matakana Kitchen. Highlight Sawmill Brewery Matakana. Amazing beer and food platters to share.
We stayed at Quail Lodge for our wedding anniversary last weekend, and I am so glad I picked this spot! It was perfect. The location is great, within easy distance of Snells beach and Matakana, and the lodge itself is situated in a very peaceful spot. Helen was a fantastic host, very friendly. The breakfast we received each morning was incredible too, we wanted for nothing! We will definitely be going again and would highly recommend to everyone.
A place you would love to live in!!! Great location, views to die for, amazing breakfast , very comfortable to stay here ! And so much to see and do in the area: Markets , great vineyards and restaurants, beautiful white sandy beaches, regional parks , golf courses and so on.
Spent just one night here with a friend - perfect location and luxury accommodation. Every possible thing you needed was there. Wonderful hosts - we would love Helen as a friend! Great breakfast and welcomed with a wine. We didn't make the most of everything on offer, pool, hot tub or grand piano - but the nespresso machine was very welcomed. We want to visit again! Thanks so much Helen & Willilem
A great experience A 2 bedroom apartment with access to a wonderful pool, spa pool and barbecue. Well appointed bathroom and great bed linen - pity the mattress was so soft For those who like to tickle the ivory there is a mini grand piano. A property with only the owners house and one apartment. Delivers space, serenity and great rural views The owners provide a great breakfast for all With investigating.
Quail Lodge is like no other place we stayed in NZ, in such a good way. Its a real rural retreat but pretty easy to find. Our host Helen was very friendly and welcoming and just lovely to chat to. The house itself is beautiful. Decked out in pure luxury. The pool was stunning and it was lovely to sit on those comfy sofas and enjoy the sunshine. The home cooked brekkie was one of the best we had in NZ and was a lovely way to end our trip. I would definitely stay again if in the area and would definitely recommend for others to stay there. You wont want to leave!
The qual lodge is a proper fairytale: situated in hilly grassland, surrounded by sheep and horses, a tree-lined driveway brings you to the lodge. The lodge itself is very comfortable, with big double beds and a lovely bathroom. The swimming pool and jacuzzi are at the doorstep, perfect for a wake-up swim. The surroundings are lovely as well, with many lakes, rivers, restaurants, wineries, cute towns worth visiting and beautiful walking trails in the vicinity. The hosts, Willem and Helen, are very welcoming and make a delicious breakfast. Much recommended!
