We were a three generation party of five. Needing safe fun for children, peace and tranquility for a busy parent needing a battery recharge, and easy living for a pair of ‘oldies‘. We got all of that within the delightfully rustic converted stable block ‘I Platani’ . With spacious accommodation over 3 levels. The house can be divided internally for extra privacy if needed. The two single ‘little people’ bedrooms approached through arches at the top of the house with tiny peep window in between thrilled the children to bits. Two independent bathrooms, basic, clean and perfectly adequate for families, both with showers and one roll top bath. Adequately equipped for self catering, includes 2 fridges, microwave, and hob. Plenty of cutlery, crockery, saucepans etc. The air con together with thick walls and lofty ceiling provide cool respite from the heat. Evenings were spent peacefully al fresco on a loggia within own large garden. Lovely clean swimming pool, with small children’s pool close by, for use at your own risk. Covid prevented on-site catering /bar to be available, which was reflected in the pricing. Owner Riccardo, who speaks excellent English by the way, together with Sven, are very ‘hands-on’ , attentive and always available. Overall a basic, unpretentious rustic property within the amazing setting of a working olive estate, other rental properties available on site may offer different levels of quality in accommodation, but we were very happy with I Platani and would certainly return.

We were one of the first guests from abroad since the COVID-19 outbreak. We were welcomed by the owners wife and got a quick tour on the huge property. The buildings are very old and beautiful restored in their original style. There is a large pool and also a smaller pool for the children. On the estate there is also open air kitchen and barbecue spot. All the apartments are different and have at least one or more private terrases. We stayed in apartment Il Girisola and this was a very spacious apartment with all the equipment necessary. The kitchen was quite complete for Italian standards and had even a microwave, a modern fridge, electrical stove with 4 stoves and enough plates and glasses. There were two bathrooms, one rather small, but the other one was huge. There are two air conditioners that operated perfectly and didn't smell. The mattresses were a bit too sore for our taste and after ten days it was more than enough for our backs. There is enough space to store your clothes and suitcases. You have a couches and flatscreen television with digital receiver. Is everything spotless clean? No. It is a working farm with old building and that brings dust and is part of the environment. If you're a germophobia than you're in the wrong spot (I think in all masserias/tenutas). The masseria produces its own olive oil (which is very tasteful!) and they sell wine from wine farms around the area. Our apartment was adjacent to the donkey field and when we had breakfast we had a nice view on the donkeys. The owner and his wife are very friendly and helpful if you need anything. Also a very nice detail, we travelled with two small children and one needed a cot, that the cot was already there and had all the bedlinnen. This without asking, we found that very hospitable. We can really recommend this masseria if you like the feeling of the real Italy.

We stayed for one week with fiends in Il Mandorlo: - terrible to find it especially at night -mattresses cheap and very uncomfortable - cleanliness very poor - first floor en-suite is a match box- small even for one person at a time!Downstairs bathroom although a big room the shower cubicle so small that if you drop something when you shower you can't bend down to pick it up! toilets dirty on arrival with build up poo! - kitchen full of ants - all property dusty - poor wi-fi and air conditioning - swimming pool water so cloudy you couldn't see the bottom and not enough sun loungers or deckchairs around When we addressed the issue of cleanliness the owner was not phased at all We stayed in self catering agriturismo accommodation before but those owners were going in the rooms daily at least to empty the bins if not change the towels or bedding. No such thing at Il Deserto!Even for self catering you must have some utensils at the accommodation - dustpan and brush, detergent, mop would be a minimum as one can't be expected to bring them in the suitcases or go out and buy them! Was our first visit in Puglia and we liked what we saw and are planning to go back but for sure we'll avoid this agriturismo!

This is still a true, operational masseria, producing olive oil on a large estate. The owners have converted the main building and adjacent storage buildings to wonderful appartements (the owners live in the main building). We stayed in the appartement Buganvilla, which has a huge vaulted living, a large bedroom and a small attic containing 2 separate beds, OK for children but not adults because of the low ceiling. Bathroom contains everything needed, but is tiny (3 m2), a bit inconvenient for a family of 4. The rooms are furnished with antiques and country-style furniture, walls are hung with antique prints, and decoration is abundant: books, ceramics, Shells, antique sewing machines (we counted 4 in our apartment) - it’s as if the owners have accommodated you in one of their spare rooms. And that’s how they seem to feel about it. It’s very authentic, personable, perhaps a bit quaint but utterly likeable. The pool is excellent, everything is well tended and clean and the owners are most friendly, going out of their way to make you feel welcome. The location is somewhat remote, the nearest town of San Vito has little to offer. But nearby Ceglie Messapica is a gem, and a 20 minute drive. Great place, with much more individual charm than most and Yes, a touch of class. We liked it a lot.

We stayed in this masseria for 8 days in April. The masseria is in a beautiful and quiet location and is full of history. The friendly owner Riccardo is happy to tell you all about it. Our house (I Ciclamini) was cozy and clean and nicely decorated with bright colours and was well equiped (also good wifi). The shower cabin was very small though, and a suggestion is to place a shower organizer (or dispenser) where you can put your shampoo etc. so that you don’t need to bend over to the floor every time (the shower doors could use some good cleaning). The house is on the outside of the estate with nice views on the farmland and the donkeys. We were accompanied every day by two dogs (Puppi and Lilly) and a cat (Tigro). They were very sweet! The weather was great for the time of year, but the house felt quite damp and chilly in the evening. The extra heating helped us to feel comfortable though. We had dinner in the Clubhouse on the evening of arrival. It was the best meal we had all week with very good wine and their own (biological) olive oil. The masseria is centrally located to visit all the highlights of Puglia. Our favorites: Lecce, Matera, Ostuni and Otranto. We had a very relaxed time at the masseria (maybe because there were only two other guests) and can definitely recommend it! The only negative comment I have is not about the masseria but about Italy in general: we saw a lot of dead animals at the roadside (cats and dogs) and you will find garbage and trash everywhere (next to the roads, on the beaches etc.). I really don’t understand this attitude. It not only affects the environment but also the economy (it doesn’t attract investors and tourists).
