Wetland View Park is in a wonderful setting, with views over to dramatic limestone cliffs. Sally and Giff are very welcoming hosts. Sally provided a wealth of information on the area and its history and Giff took us on an evening visit to see glow worms and freshwater koura nearby. Mangarakau wetland is spectacular as is the nearby West Coast beach and Sally and Giff have put a lot of work in planting natives on their property. Some care needs to be taken on the heavily rutted Snake Creek if you are driving an ordinary car. If you are a nature lover or just want a peaceful escape, Wetland View Park is ideal.

My husband and I had a wonderful two day stay in Mangarakau. Our hosts, Sally and Giff, were so knowledgeable, discrete yet welcoming.
The chalet was warm, comfortable and we had everything we needed.
We walked through the ancient wetlands, visited historic sites, visited the magnificent Westcoast and the Westhaven inlet.
In the evening Giff took us to a Glow worm grotto where we also spotted kura and weta,
We ran out of time for all we wanted to do !

The hosts, Sally and Giff, are incredible people. Helpfully sharing the best walks and places to explore the fascinating past of Mangarakau. The short trip to a nearby glow worm and weka cave before learning about the stunning night sky was an absolute highlight. Thankyou. (They have amazing Manila honey for sale too)

We were 2 couples , friends, and found this magnificent spot with the help of Mr. Google. We were welcomed by Sally the host in a very friendly hospitable way and she invited us straightaway to be her quests, to enjoy her not so weedfree garden and to ask her anything we wanted to know or find out about the district. Sally and Giff answered all our questions and were really encouraging and inspirational for us to discover this part of the Westcoast. We stayed for 3 nights , enjoyed the walks on their property, their wetas, glowworms, freshwater crayfish, their garden and the wonderful meal they provided us with on our last night.
We enjoyed the wild West Coast, the endless beaches, went for a day as far as the Turimawiwi River, 4wheel drive essential, walked to beautiful Lake Otuhie and also just enjoyed the quietness and peacefulness of our surroundings. If you are depressed, overworked or just want to get away from it all this is the place to be, Sally and Giff, we loved it and every minute we spend with you, we learned, discovered and came back home wanting more, next time we will attempt to walk to the Kahurangi lighthouse, we will definitely be back with our daughters or recommend your accomodation to others.

My husband and I stopped for 2 nights in January with our 6 month old baby. The cabins are lovley and peaceful, they have everything you need and a baby bath and high chair were provided for the little one. The beds are comfy and we all slept well. Sally and Giff are the perfect hosts, we ordered the meal for our first night and took supplies for the second night but after trying sally's fabulous cooking we asked if we could have her food on the second night too. Sally certainly knows how to cook, all 3 courses were amazing and the food was fresh and delicious, much of it home grown and having each course brought out to the cabin was pure luxuary. Sally also prepared some pureed veg and fruit for our baby and even baby sat for 20 minutes one night whist Giff took us to see the glow worms. The location is about as far away from it all as you can get, there are some interesting walks and a lovely beach close to the location. We are so glad to stayed.

We stayed there for two nights last spring. The travel to this remote place is a bit bumpy, yet well rewarded. Especially the beaches are beautiful and you are practically alone there. The host are very nice and the accommodation is just PERFECT! It is really worth going there.

The place is worth staying at. Great guests and the accommodation is very clean, well presented and well designed. We were just two of us but it easy to fit in a family in the chalet. The glow worm visit in a full moon evening was fabulous and Giff is a very knowledgeable host to have. Sally cooked a delicious, home cooked dinner for us. We have been surprised with candles and nice table setting by the time we came back from our sunset walk on the beach. We would've loved to stay two nights!

We came here for 3 nights in december. Sally has been very nice and Giff has been great to take us out for gloworms watching. Gloworms were the highlights but also lake Otuhie track has been a fantastic walk with dramatic lush scenery to a very pure lake. The beachfront drive is also an incredible trip as there is a nice walk in the native forests up in the hills (Nikau palms and lots of others superb trees). Best was also the home made 1h track in Sally and Giff property, the wetlands, with nice little track accross the flax forest and a rewrding view at the end.
Accomodation is top. Homely and cosy, all you need in there, without forgetting the home made honey from Sally, which was fantastic, with lemon and mild spices aromas.

We spent a very enjoyable time at Wetland View Park, bird song and peace and quiet, fantastic. This accommodation is very well presented and cosy and warm, a very welcoming place to stay. We stayed in early June and we able to get about in only Tee shirts, though we did have jackets if we had needed them. We will be back hopefully in this next summer, to do some of the tracks and to walk the beach. The 30 kms of gravel road may be a challenge to some but there is new scenery around every corner, and it is great to feel the remoteness of the area. No light pollution and no traffic noise. Thank you Sally and Giff.
