Using the published Satnav postcode we found the Golf Club with no difficulty. Parking is plentiful with what appears to be an overflow car park to the rear of the main property. We Booked the accommodation for one night through Booking.com. Reception was trouble free. Friendly staff (Abi and Lindsey) explained the layout, confirmed that a table was booked for dinner, and we were shown to our room.

The room was in a block that required us to walk about 50 yards outside the main building. Room 22 is large, spacious and well lit. An en-suite bathroom offers a big bath (jacuzzi style), a shower cubicle, toilet and 'His and Hers' wash basins. All areas of the bath and shower room were immaculately clean.

The bed is super kingsize and comfortable. Plenty of wardrobe and drawer space is provided, along with a TV, and kettle with the makings for a cuppa.

We were not aware that the meal in the evening was an Oriental buffet. Initially we were offered menus that were limited to Bagettes, sandwiches etc; not a full dinner menu. Sue told us about The Buffet that proved to be adequate to our needs; she was most helpful and ensured that some of the dishes on the buffet were replenished for us.

Dudsbury was in a location close to our primary destination in Ferndown where we attended a Seminar. We will stay at Dudsbury in the future should we pass that way again. Our thanks to the staff for their help and advice.

We stayed here for two nights, the hotel was exceptionally clean. The bedroom and bathroom especially, which we were very pleased about given that a peaceful nights sleep is important.

However the breakfast was not to our standard, when we called and mentioned we were both vegetarian we were told that we shouldn't worry as they have plenty of options. The first morning there were no vegetarian sausages despite me calling especially - we ended up eating beans tomatoes and hash browns.
Subsequently we let reception know that we weren't happy and the following day they made up for it and had gone and got some vegetarian sausages - one each to make up for the meat option: sausages, eggs & bacon. I cannot say that we were impressed with the breakfast at all! We have stayed at a lot of places that offer a vast range for vegetarians - one veggie sausage each seems very poor.
Clearly the restaurant and the hotel operate separately, but we did not appreciate being told that we would be catered for when clearly that was not the case.

Overall the hotel was amazing, the location, the atmosphere. Just a all round perfect place to relax (if you arent fussed about vegetarian breakfasts)
The staff adhered to the social distancing practices, masks worn by all staff in the restaurant and at reception. There is plenty of hand sanitisers around and they take bookings for breakfast/dinner in order to ensure there is no over crowding in the restaurant.

I arranged a 4 night golf tour for 6 couples in January through Golf Holidays Direct . I booked 3 superior / 3 standardrooms , only to be told 3 weeks before trip that 1 superior was not available . The ladies also tried to book Spa Therapist treatments but were told the therapist was on holiday and no treatments available . The hotel suggested we change date of trip , albeit 3 weeks before we arrived ! No compensation offered , not even a bottle of wine .
The standard roome are small , and all rooms have large old double beds which badly need replacing . The superior rooms are larger , have nice baths as well as shower but are prone to early morning noise due to location next to delivery areas and greenstaff sheds . All rooms clean and tidy .
Reception is efficient but somewhat unfriendly .
Choice of beers excellent , as was the new Hotel Manager who went out of his way to enhance our stay . He was extremely friendly , efficient and clearly knew how to manage everything under his direction . Great guy ! As were his staff in the bar and restauraunt , very good service ! Quality of food was adequate and more or less what we expected but could be improved , especially the breakfast .
Great choice of beers and not too expensive wines . On day one we were offered fresh fruit salad which was nice , on other days it was relegated to tinned fruit which was awful . Full English quite good . Nice variety of dinner choice .
Golf course was excellent , despite the dry conditions the starter was very helpful as was the guy in the limited selection pro shop . Lovely patio area to meet up after golf and pre dinner.

Having visited this spa on many previous occasions and having a lovely time, I was very happy to receive a gift voucher from a friend enabling my husband and I to return once again. However, the voucher has a very short expiry of 6 months from booking. Nonetheless, I first tried to book us into the spa with the voucher some months ago, only to be told that the spa was closed due to pool maintenance and therefore could not take any bookings. We then suffered a close death in the family, which meant that it was not feasible, and neither would I have felt up to it, to try booking again for a time. I explained tge situation to the dudsbury this week, only to be told that my voucher had expired last month and, despite it being their fault the first time, and personal circumstances delaying my booking the second time, they refused point blank to honour the voucher. They did not even take into consideration that due to their own maintenance works, the 6 months for which the voucher was valid was not, therefore, a full 6 months and so not adhering to the T and Cs of the voucher anyway. It was quite clear they could not care less about our hard ship there was no empathy, I found their attitude completely appalling. I have heard rumours that there is a take over in the works, which is probably a good thing and will hopefully lead to some staff training and better customer service. It seems the owner is happy to just pocket the £110 spent on the voucher and couldn't care less about her customers or reputation. Unless they can rectify this situation, I will not be returning here and will discourage others from coming here also. Awful and disappointing.

Response from Dudsbury Golf Club, Other at Dudsbury Golf Club, Hotel & Spa
Responded 28 Feb 2020
Dear Mrs Browning, I will endeavour to address all of the points you have raised in your review. We are terribly sorry to hear of your circumstances and would like to extend our sincere condolences to you. After investigating the details of your voucher, I can confirm your voucher was valid from 11th July 2019 until 11th January 2020; this covers the six-month period which applies to all vouchers issued by Dudsbury Golf Club, Hotel and Spa. The Spa facilities were closed from 21st October 2019 until 8th November 2019 whilst we carried out essential maintenance required to ensure the health and safety of our members and guests. Unfortunately, this result was a factor that was out of our control. However, we did offer treatments during the closure period and alternative dates for bookings to be made following the reopening of the facilities. Your initial booking enquiry was made 3 months after the voucher was issued on 11th July 2019 and then we did not hear from you again until 4 months later when we received an email from you at the beginning of this week. It was taken into consideration that due to our maintenance works the Spa was unavailable for 19 days whilst your voucher was valid. In order to adhere to our terms and conditions we would have accounted for the one-off time the Spa facilities were closed and honoured your voucher for a further 19 days. However, your request for an extension, received on 23rd February 2020, had already exceeded the 19 days that would have been compensated for due to the spa closure. The terms and conditions (as depicted on the image of your voucher that you emailed to us) clearly states ‘This voucher cannot be used after the stated expiration date. Vouchers cannot be refunded or exchanged for cash or any other denominated vouchers.’ All employees of Dudsbury Golf Club, Hotel and Spa are required to adhere to procedures and policies as outlined by the company. In reference to your comment “I have heard rumours that there is a take over in the works” I would respectfully request you refrain from making false and unfounded allegations of this nature. This statement could be misconstrued and upset my very hardworking team here at Dudsbury Golf Club. Anyone who knows the Club are fully aware that we are a small but busy local business with friendly and efficient staff whom with support of our loyal members and patrons raise thousands of pounds every year for local charities through our good causes and efforts. In relation to your comments about your previous visits to the Spa, I am pleased to hear that you’ve had a “good experience” and “a lovely time”. Furthermore, we are very proud of our Spa team and how hard they all work to ensure our guests have the best possible experience. As a business we also fully appreciate that sometimes we cannot meet everyone’s expectations all of the time. It is disappointing to note that this matter will deter you from returning and may cause you to discourage others from visiting us, but wish you well for the future. Kind Regards, The Management Team at Dudsbury Golf Club, Hotel and Spa

We had a two night stay. Couldn’t fault the room or restaurant but was upset to find out that we were not allowed to use the spa. We booked under the knowledge that this was to be included. We were informed that if we wanted to use it there would be a £30 per person charge and a limited amount of time using these facilities. Felt that when booking this break that we were getting the package and certainly didn’t expect to pay extra to use what was stated on the website.

We chose the Dudsbury Golf Club, Hotel and Spa as a venue for a wake following the death of my father. He had attended several events there previously and really liked the venue. It was my first time visiting the Dudsbury and everything from booking through to billing was handled professionally and promptly.

We had the Bentleys Restaurant Function Suite upstairs which was a nice large room with big windows overlooking the Golf Course and a nice adjacent dedicated bar area.

Sophia in the Events Team arranged everything as we requested and everything on the day went very smoothly. The staff were friendly, attentive and helpful. The buffet lunch we ordered was very tasty and good value for money.

I would have no hesitation in recommending the Dudsbury and hope to visit again.

Room clean and comfortable, golf course lovely, unfortunately that’s where the good review ends. They were very obviously understaffed, the whole weekend the customer service was dreadful. I don’t blame the waiting staff but the management, more training is definitely required. I know that COVID has affected things but you know in advance how many tee times there are, people staying in hotel etc so you should have adequate staffing levels. If you can’t cope then you shouldn’t take the bookings! I booked the hotel in order that we could play golf and use the spa, using covid as an excuse not for us to use the spa is extremely poor especially as you are willing to take our money if we were willing to play extra to use these facilities! Very disappointed.

My friend and I had played a different golf course that day so arrived around 8pm (as the hotel wasn't doing food due to C19 as an email from the hotel has informed me, but the nearby Horns Inn was).

No one was on reception nor were they after a few phone calls from the phone on the desk. However, the member of staff behind the bar kindly helped.

After checking in, we had a drink from the bar and were informed about the hotel policy of guests using the swimming pool between 4-9pm only.

A very strange policy indeed as by check out at 11am, I had still seen no one use the swimming pool. The breakfast was good and the golf course played well even if we had to follow a Seniors medal competition of the white tees.

The decor and hallway furnishings in the hotel are certainly different from the usual contemporary designs of most hotels. In fact, I've not seen a glittery cat, New York City Night Scenes and Poole Harbour all intertwined in such a unique style before.

It was also too much effort for the bill to be split on reception between my friend and I

Myself and two friends had looked forward to staying at this “golf club and spa hotel” with our husbands for some time. A day of rest and relaxation awaited, or so we thought. However, whilst the men enjoyed the golf we couldn’t enter the spa at all! This was more frustrating given that my friend had enquired by phone the day before our arrival about what to bring etc as we had received no communications around Covid. She was then told that we had to pre-book the spa, which we had never been told. We did not want treatments, just the use of the pool and spa so, as we had not been told to book at any time previously, she sent a polite email to the management. She received no reply by our arrival the next day, and still hasn’t! On arrival the staff on the front desk offered no apology and simply said we needed to speak with the manager the following day. Given that the spa is closed on a Sunday this was extremely frustrating especially as there were only about 3 people in it when we wanted to go in! With little to do in the immediate vicinity we then incurred additional costs travelling for the afternoon. The following day we met the manager who was immediately unfriendly and defensive, she also offered no empathy, apology or gesture of goodwill. When we asked if we could have some kind of refund she repeatedly said no, and when we expressed our dissatisfaction she muttered to her colleague “I’m pregnant, I don’t need this, I’m done”!!
Whilst the evening meal and breakfast were reasonable and the rooms were comfortable, the absence of any form of hospitality means we definitely won’t be returning and will advise our friends never to go.

Response from Abi McClaren, Other at Dudsbury Golf Club, Hotel & Spa
Responded 29 Jun 2021
Thank you for your comments, we welcome all feedback and would like to take this opportunity to respond to the points you have raised. Upon booking, the organiser of your party, was advised via telephone that unfortunately, due to the current covid regulations and guidelines, we are unable to open our spa facilities to hotel guests. The email confirmation confirming the booking also states the price was inclusive of; accommodation, breakfast, three course dinner and two rounds of golf. Nowhere have we stated that use of the spa facilities is available to hotel guests, and our website and booking sites all state the spa is currently unavailable to hotel guests unless they have made a reservation for a treatment or a spa day. I’m sure you understand how challenging the last 16 months have been for businesses especially the hospitality industry. As a business, we are doing our best to accommodate our guests, whilst operating as normally as possible and treating all of our customers fairly. Due to the size of our spa, under current regulations, we can only accommodate up to a maximum of 6 people at a time with only 4 in the pool at any one time. When the spa staff are working, they are able to monitor and regulate this as well maintain the strict cleaning practices currently in force. Unfortunately, when the spa staff are not working, we are unable to monitor how many people are in the spa at any one time, monitor how long people are in the spa and maintain the high standard of cleanliness required. If we were to let just a few hotel guests in when the spa may look empty, we would then have to let all hotel guests into the spa which is just not possible under covid restrictions and would also not be treating our customers fairly. In your email to our spa, received at 21:38 the night before your arrival, you stated that you believed ‘there had been a lack of communication between husbands and wives’ regarding the spa facilities. This suggests, you were aware you were unable to use the spa facilities prior to your arrival. Our spa did not reply to your email as you spoke to our spa manager in person before she was able to respond. Upon check out, you requested to have a refund due to not being able to use the spa facilities. Prior to lockdown, hotel guests were offered complimentary use of the spa facilities and as the use was complimentary, is not reflected in the room rate so we were unable to offer any refund for not being able to use them. This was when you started to verbally abuse our pregnant Reception Manager for over ten minutes, when as a business, we have done nothing wrong except try to continue operating in the current climate. Your actions caused undue stress to our Reception Manager, and no member of staff should have to suffer the treatment you imparted on her, this led to the Reception manager stating she was pregnant and unable to assist you any further, in the hope, as a fellow female, you could see the affect your actions were having on a pregnant woman. As this had no effect, another member of staff took over and simply said it would be something we could look into for the future. After your departure, the queue of guests who had been waiting patiently behind you to check out for twenty minutes, all commented how rude your treatment of our staff was and how unfair you had been to them. We hope this has addressed all the points you have raised and also allows trip advisor users to form their own opinion in the events that have occurred.

Both Poole & Bournemouth have train stations. The fare would be quite expensive as both are 8/10 miles. Better hotels close to both of these stations.

Whilst I was at the Dudsbury Golf Club Hotel, they were hosting an event for about 150 people in the function suit. This did not effect the service in the restaurant. They appear well able to cater for large groups.
