Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Comfortable, quiet, clean and spacious accommodation for our one night stay whilst touring NZ South Island. Parking right outside our door. Blankets available for us to remake the comfortable king bed which was alreadymade up with a doona and electric blanket. The motel is within easy walking distance of all you might need when staying in the area. Our main reason for staying here was to enjoy the green lipped mussels that are a specialty of the area.

Excellent motel. We stayed in room 12, which has disability access, great shower/wet room, very spacous bedroom with high quality linens and super comfy king sized bed, and lovely lounge area with a pull out bed, we didnt use this. This room was at the back of three rows of motel units, very quiiet, with attractive flowering plants, and a bush walk to a waterfall next door.highly recommend.

Booked this motel based on the reviews but were very disappointed. Had a Deluxe studio but we are still trying to figure out what was Deluxe about it as it was very, very basic and tired. The only good things were its great setting and that it was quiet. This could be a fantastic motel but needs money spending on it to update and improve its facilities. Wouldn’t recommend it.

An excellent location, set quietly back from the main street. Check in was simple and friendly, with additional information that really helped us make the most of the time in the area. Just what we needed. Facilities were all that was required. Housekeeping was responsive and great service

Excellent friendly service from the owners and even Floyd the dog. This motel is located in a quiet spacious location amongst beautiful trees but really close to town, which gives easy access to restaurants and shops. The units are fresh and clean with good quality kitchen, bathroom and seating areas- including outdoor chairs with a great view of the gardens. The owner was really helpful when one of our number fell ill.

We were very fortunate to have been recommended to stay at The Havelock Garden Motel. The owners Kirsa & Steve go over and beyond to ensure your stay is enjoyable and comfortable. The rooms are spotlessly clean, with everything you need and in such an idyllic setting, which is well positioned, close to all amenities and pleasant walks. We had the misfortune to leave some items which Kirsa kindly forwarded on to us, thank you so much. The next time we are in the area we will undoubtedly book to stay here again.

An amazing motel, set in a gorgeous garden. Extremely friendly and helpful owners of the motel. These are large and roomy, central in Havelock. We were able to leave our car there for a couple of nights whilst away tramping, really appreciate knowing that they were secure. We will definitely stay here again. Thanks

Our extended family met in Havelock for a 90th Birthday celebration. We all had units at this motel. The check in was quick and easy. The rooms were clean and bed comfortable even tho just a double I think. Adequate appliances in the kitchen. Our two nights were enjoyable with the beautiful park like grounds, baby ducklings, bird calls etc. Everything was within walking distance, supermarket, takeaways. Coffee shops.

We had a great two night stay here. We didn't book enough in advance which was our fault but Kirsa called me back and we had one night in a unit and then the next night shifted to a two bedroom unit. They were very kind and shifted our bags to the new unit while we were fishing. We left our crayfish pot there and Kirsa called and stored it until we are back in Havelock. The rooms are cosy, very clean and have everything you need. It is in a great location but off the road so it is very quiet. We would highly recommend this motel and the owners are really lovely.
