We stayed here in a campervan for our last two nights in South Island to explore Queen Charlotte Sound, Picton and Blenheim for a day before catching the ferry across to Wellington. The site is between the centre of the village and the marina and so very well placed for catching the morning Pelorus Sound Mail Boat cruise (although we didn't ourselves). Although it isn't picturesque as a site it worked very well and the facilities were spotless. The pitches were all level. The showers are free but timed on a push button for 6 minutes of hot water which we found to be no problem. Tip: get ready and turn the shower control to "Hot" before pushing the button - mix to suit after hot water quickly arrives. Birgitte (not Bridget - my error!) was very helpful but we wished we'd said we were heading to Kenepuru Sound too as the road off Queen Charlotte Drive was closed long-term except for residents due to major storm damage. We can recommend the village up Anakiwa road instead as a great place to see the QC Sound's Grove Arm and stop to make breakfast.

As always, they are very helpful with any extra requests and we keep enjoying the very clean, well kept facilities that they provide. Enjoy the restaurants and pub all very close by. Great weather. Entrance to the Pelorus Sounds, we just love this spot, so relaxing.

A great tent site in a really busy time of year. This campground is set in a central location with close access to the marina and the eating places. We were in the overflow area and the toilets were fine but hot water was a bit luke warm. Otherwise the whole place was good

Very clean and well maintained camping ground. Good kitchen and laundry facilities are available. The additional $2 washing machine with cold water is good for when you only have a small load.
Good playground for children. All the usual rubbish disposal facilities.

In our 60 years of camping in NZ - almost entirely in the South Island, we have never found a better maintained camp than this one.
Bathroom facilities in particular are excellent and immaculately clean.
Geologically Havelock is a good stepping off point for access to the Sounds and upper South Island and the people running the camp are friendly and helpful.

The campsite was over crowded, with tents pitched very close to each other on a rugby field, which was understandable due to the peak season of xmas/new year. What really concerned me was the fact that showers were paid on top of the night rate. There were extra showers on a changing room with no option to regulate temperature. We travelled with a toddler and the water temperature was awful. The showers and facilities not clean enough. NOT FAMILY FRIENDLY AT ALL.
My point is: why would you make a rubgy field a massive camp ground to squeeze as many people as possible if you don't have the right facilities and you make people pay for having a hot shower.
Staff were also unpleasant and unaccommodating, unhappy to help and seemed annoyed.

Havelock is a beautiful village, but will not come back to this holiday park

We tented, 2 adults and a child. The camp ground is in a central location, handy to the township and marina.
All the tent sites are at the very far end of the camp and the furtherest from the amenities which meant long walks to the kitchen, toilets and showers. There could have been some rubbish bins near the tent area as well. The water tap near us was unable to be used because the handle was missing. There is an extra charge for a shower, the shower time starts counting down as soon as the coin is put in the machine which will catch you out if your not ready.
To me, it seems this camp is best suited if you have a camper or caravan, these gaet the best places in the camp.

We are used to camping in a caravan but this time we chose to rent a cabin. (Cabin 5) We found it to be clean and tidy and suffient enough for 2 people. We were there for 6 days. We were given 2 towels which weren't renewed but we were able to wash them ourselves. An extra cost to what we had paid. Not a deal breaker but for $120 per night, maybe something to look at. Showers and toilets are in close vicinity and very clean and tidy. No tokens/coins required for a hot shower. Overall experience is a 9.5/10 for us

Tony and Brigitte, were very friendly and helpful , always with a smile 😃 and ready to listen. Park was spotless. Their kitchen had pots, pans, everything you requested. There was dish washing liquid, sponge and brushes to wash dishes with. They have nice wooden tables outside of the kitchen, great place to catch up with other campers. Walking distance from everything. I'll definitely stay there again on my way back from the North Island

Take care Kay

I cannot remember this incident but I have to ask the question why Havelock locals think it is their right to just walk or drive through any business to get to their destination. The signs at all entrances quite clearly state "Guests Only" and you by your own admission were not a guest. Please have the courtesy to stay on the public footpaths and public roadways which all lead to the netball court and stay off private property.
