What a fantastic and memorable experience it is to stay with Mike and Connie. With excellent home-made breakfasts comprising Connie’s own bread and preserves, through to the special touches like bottled water and chocolate on arrival, they know how to treat guests like VIPs. It was with sadness that we said our goodbyes to this hospitable couple. The views over the Sounds are stunning, and this is where we enjoyed our breakfasts and the sunsets. At breakfast, we sat and watched 2 families of quails foraging on the pathway before one of the cock quails, perched on high, sounded the alert and the quails scattered. Then a weka appeared, a brown ground bird known for its aggression, and it foraged where the quails had been moments earlier. The gardens are spacious with numerous fruit trees within which to wander. Mike’s pride and joy, a Zephyr V6 dating back to 1963, sits idle in the shed. The studio of Valerie Maynard, a renowned New Zealand potter of 47 years, is within walking distance at the home next door. (Her husband is restoring an old Caterpillar bulldozer in his shed.) Havelock, with its marina and restaurants, is 10 minutes’ drive, and Picton is 40 minutes away. Picton is the port of departure of the vehicle ferry for the north island of New Zealand. Kiwiss is located on Queen Charlotte Drive, probably THE best scenic road in New Zealand, and the road which straddles the hills between these two aforementioned ports. The rooms all have names. We had Shaun the Sheep as our accommodation, the only one without a sea-view, but, like all the others, with its own bathroom. The whole house is very well appointed and there is a separate guest lounge with fridge and coffee-making facilities. Another lovely touch is that Connie writes a personalised message on your mug with your breakfast drink. Wherever Mike and Connie are, you know you will be treated like VIPs. Thank you, Mike and Connie, for a most memorable stay and our thoughts and prayers are with you as you move on.…
We only stayed here one night on our honeymoon, but I am so glad that we did. There was wonderful hospitality, and a very sweet and cozy room with a fantastic view of the sound, and mountains. In the evening we had time to sit and enjoy the sunset over Marlborough Sound. In the morning we had one of the best breakfasts we were offered on our vacation, which we ate on the deck, enjoying the view. The decor was simple, elegant, and whimsical. A lot of work has gone into the property and the view. A little closer to Havelock than Picton, and a winding drive, but very much worth it. One of my favorite stays on our three week trip. Cell reception is spotty in this area, so make sure you know when the check in time is in advance.
This B&B has the best view of any I have ever visited. The comfortable house with a wonderful garden of hidden paths overlooks the sound below. There is lovely outdoor seating on the deck, and Connie will indulge your every wish. Compact but comfy bedrooms and a totally fabulous breakfast. Connie’s own Bircher muesli, home-made bread and eggs from their own chickens make a fantastic breakfast. Highly recommended.
Very nice B&B with a fantastic view. The breakfast with very good freshly baked bread was delicious. Good toppings and much more nice things to eat for breakfast. Nice and caring hostess. Gave us many valuable tips, including restaurant visits. We ate at the Captain's daughter and were served wonderful good food which was very affordable.
Connie and Mike were great hosts, the b&b had a fabulous outlook over the bay our room was small but adequate with a separate toilet and bathroom, breakfast was ok it was nice to have fresh home baked bread in the morning and home made jams.
Current owners were wonderful, friendly hosts, but new owners to come. Located not too far outside Havelock and about one hour along the scenic drive to Picton. Room was nice with a view of the sound. The Swiss inspired breakfast was delicious.
Wished we could have stayed longer. The house and view are really beautiful. Connie is a great host. The extra touches like personalising your breakfast cup was really lovely. Breakfast was fab. Plenty of cold continental but cooked too if you wanted it. The garden is very well kept with plenty of seating outside to admire the gorgeous view. lots of bird life..the tui bird and quails come in the morning to be fed. If yiu are lucky you might see dolphins in the Sound. Do not want to say anything negative about this place but the room we had downstairs at the back was noisy in thw morning when people were up and about, but would still thoroughly recommend staying here. Good vaule.
Connie and Mike are great hosts, they are a lovely couple and will make you feel at home. They both took time to share with us their love of the region. The house is located upon the hill with view on the sea where you can spot dolphins if you are lucky. Our room and bathroom was sparkling clean, and the bed very comfy. The breakfast the best we had in NZ! Our only wish would have been to stay longer! The only thing worths mentioning is that you are sharing the owners’ home, there is no separate entrance or flat per say. It was completely fine for us as we wanted to meet some locals, and that is why we chose a B&B.
Was truly lovely stay. Great hosts and the breakfast was amazing. 5 star breakfast. I'd come again for the breakfast alone. Fresh fruit from the on site farm, homemade bread, fresh eggs from chickens on site. Superb
We stayed 2 nights at KiwissB&B. Everything was just perfect!! Conny, the owner, was very nice and helped us to organize a taxi boat to return from a stunning hike to the Marlborough Sounds. The B&B was very clean and comfortable. Chilling at the terrace with wonderful views over the Sounds an the beautiful garden was really fantastic. The breakfast was outstanding and the best we had during our two NZ trips with handmade bread, fresh fruits from the garden and really fantastic Coffee. Thanks to Conny for the unforgettable 2 days at this lovely place!!
