Have a visit Mt Ruapehu Area, we spent one night at this lodge. My room was very good, with double and single bed, clean and comfy. The shared showers and toilets were clean and tidy. The best was the shared kitchen, spacious with plenty of kitchen tools and you can prepare and literally cook your meals here, great. The shared dining and ammenities was nice with large TV, books and table tennis. This lodge is one of the pick up and drop off points for shuttle buses to Mt Ruapehu if you do not want driving your car to the mountain, which could by busy and hard to find parking spaces in the peak holiday times. And the last and good was cheerfull and helpful staffs.
Thank you so much for a lovely stay - super friendly as soon as I arrived. A cosy and warm living room and comfy beds made this a great stay. All very clean and tidy too! Two friends were stuck at a bad accomodation close by and the guys here were so kind to let them enjoy the kitchen/living room with me!
Saw a couple of other comments below and just wanted to share my experience: Internet - 15gb/wk and the oven works fine :)
We stayed here for a night before embarking on the Tongariro Northern Circuit. They offer a tiny amount of free wifi so if you need to surf the net I'd probably stay somewhere else. Our room was also close to the kitchen and so there was a lot of noise coming through right up until 2 in the morning. There were also very limited female toilets which was weird. Despite this, however, the double room is really spacious and the bed was nice and comfortable. Having stayed in many backpackers, this is a big plus. For this reason I would stay here again.
Only had one night here but had no problems - booking, payment and check in was all easy! The village is small so the location of all the hostels and lodges here are convenient in reality; Ski Haus is about 800m-1km from all the important parts (supermarket) which is all flat and easy to walk!
Our room was a double which also had a bunk bed so would be ideal for groups too! The bed was comfy and layout of the rooms regarding the kitchen and bathrooms was also good!
We checked out really early due to doing the crossing so needed an early night! Unfortunately a bunch of people in the corridor were unaware of their noise levels at 11.30pm which highlighted how thin the walls were.
The kitchen was very clean with plenty of fridge space and all the necessary cooking amenities were there!
I had a very good experience. The person at the front desk, was helpful and friendly. The hostel was very clean and felt very safe. The person at front desk booked my shuttle for Tongariro, gave food recommendations and was just a nice person. As for the rooms, they are what you pay for but the hostel itself was very clean and well managed. I also had such awesome people in my dorm room from Czech Republic, Sweden, and China. So this was overall a very good experience for me.
