What can I say the hotel is the best hotel I’ve ever stayed at . During this difficult time i was so surprised how so well maintain and clean it was . The staff is incredible. Always making sure me and my kids had drinks rolling around in skates All day and still being so polite . The kids club was so good to ice creams drinks when they wanted games room with play stations all got some on there watching them . Water park is located on the beach and again so good for the older kids and there is a baby water park which is also good ! The food there is again so nice and was surprised how much again catered for every one . I preferred the beach one as it was more chips burgers nuggets for the kids . There was so many Russian there and can be very rude pushing in front like they was going to be fed 🙄The evening entertainment again spot on so many different shows and a DJ after I always got there a bit early to get a decent seat . Done the land of legends for the day no one told us that you get free transport and free entry for the day . So don’t pay any prices outside the hotel go to the quest service to book 😊 The journey is long but a fantastic day out for kids the que 30 minute wait on a lot of them and the day goes to quick tho. 😭 I couldn’t fault this hotel at all . It’s so good for families couples it just a all round fantastic hotel and already want to book for next year 😆
Me and my boyfriend recently came to Rixos Sungate for 1 week.
We were very pleasantly surprised by the service and it was always maintained thoroughly by the staff.
The staff are sooo lovely and cannot do enough for you especially the guys on rollerblades in the day and at the night time. I would like to say a special thanks to Aykar. He is such a lovely young man with very good manners and a brilliant understanding on english, he was constantly bringing us different drinks to try and nothing was too much to ask. It was so nice to have someone do something for customer service rather than the tips. I would also like to say an extra thanks to the lovely young lady who often served us of a night time (i can’t remember her name but she too couldn’t do enough for us)
The room was pretty average, it was quite a dark room and a bit outdated but it was only used to sleep in so it was okay for what we needed it for. However, the afternoon DJ can be heard very clearly from the rooms as if you’re still outside so anybody with a young child would not suit this room as it would be too loud for a child to have a nap say. This was also the case for the evening entertainment but i’m sure there is family rooms away from the loud noise and this was usually done by midnight.
As much as me and my boyfriend enjoyed this holiday and had a lovely relaxing time, it would have been nice to be informed of all the closures of the other bars such as the piano bar, the sports bra and the pino restaurant which also looked like a bar along with many others.
There is plenty of stuff to do in this hotel both for adults and children so i would recommend this to a family with or without young kids.
We also met a lovely english couple there which was a nice change from all the russians which over run the hotel a little bit and can be quite rude to you but this is no reflection of the service from this hotel.
Overall, i rate this hotel very highly for its variety of things to do and the lovely beach but i think informing future customers of the closures and extra costs would be very beneficial and prevent any surprises on arrival.
Thank you for having us and we hope to be back in the future.
We stayed as a couple (28 and 34 year old) for a week in the middle of September. We were due to go to Cyprus but because of Covid we changed to this holiday and so glad we did.
Coach journey from the airport was exactly an hour away, we were first to be dropped off which is always good. When we arrived at the hotel we were informed we had been upgraded to a sea view room with balcony which was lovely. Rooms were always cleaned, couldn’t fault them. If I was going to be picky I’d say air con wasn’t always ice cold but it’s not the end of the world. The mini fridge was always restocked with 2 Fanta, 2 coke, 2 Efes beer and plenty of bottled water.
I honestly don’t know how people complain that they couldn’t find anything they couldn’t eat. There is plenty of choice at the buffet style restaurants, 2 were open out of 3 whilst we were there but we never struggled for food. Lots of fresh seafood, slow cooked meats, stews, soups, pizza, chicken, pasta and every cheese and salad you could think of.
Breakfast was nice we usually had eggs with salmon or waffles with Nutella. There was so many different types of breakfasts to choose from. The only thing they didn’t do was bacon but your in Turkey so was never expecting that in the first place.
Al a carte:
We were given a free pass to one of the al a carte restaurants during our stay. I think it is usually one free pass for each week you are there. We chose to go to the Italian which was beautiful. Very nice setting overlooking all the mountains and you definitely left feeling full! You could order anything on the menu which was nice to pick and choose different things. (We had a starter each and chose 3 main courses between 2 of us and then a dessert, oh as well as bread and cheese they put out on the table at first)
We did choose to book another al a carte restaurant which worked out about £11 each which isn’t bad for the experience and food you get. We then went to the Mexican which was soo good! Would definitely recommend both of these restaurants, can’t say anything about the seafood as we never had time to book another.
There is a beach restaurant as well over looking the sea which we went to every day. Lots of fresh salad, chicken drum sticks, kebab as, jacket potatoes, burgers etc. Very good.
Some of the restaurants aren’t open like the Japanese or Thai/Asian. It was a shame but there was still so much to choose from anyway so it didn’t bother us.
Pool & Entertainment:
The beach looked lovely but we aren’t beach people so weren’t bothered about that. The pools are huge there’s a couple of kids ones and then the main two pools. (Indoor was closed and I think there was more but we didn’t find them all). The waiters/waitresses are absolutely amazing at their job. All go round on roller skates as well which was amazing to watch! They never forget your drinks or even remember the next day what you were drinking the day before and brought us both diet cokes round all day. There is no problem with sun beds, if you do leave towels on beds and go off for hours they simply remove the towels so that was good. There is a huge kids club which we seen while we were walking around. We don’t have kids so can’t comment on that.
Entertainment was good most nights, we seen a few shows which we liked round the main stage but sometimes just opted to sitting around the bar listening to music and chatting. There was a Miss World competition on at the time which was entertaining to watch.
We used the spa for a full Turkish bath/massage. I would highly recommend this, they were very professional and made you feel comfortable unlike some I’ve been to in Turkey. Think the price was around £50 each person.
My boyfriend loves the gym so went there everyday, he thought it was as good if not better than Bannatynes which we use at home in UK. There was also an outdoor wood work gym which looked entertaining! Think it was more for people taking photos for Instagram but still, good!
It was also my boyfriends birthday whilst we were away and room service brought a birthday cake up to the room and offered us a free bottle of wine of our choice for this which was a nice touch.
All in all we had a lovely time and would definitely recommend this hotel to other couples or families with children. Yes the Russians can be rude and there does seem to be a lot of them but it honestly didn’t bother us, they are all so self obsessed anyway it makes no difference 😂
Thank you to the Rixos team for such a lovely week away.
We booked this 5 star luxury hotel in order to have 2 weeks of sun and relaxation. The hotel is beautiful and has many pluses...the gym is excellent, the tennis courts are excellent & the gardens/beach very nice. There are restrictions due to covid19 which we expected but there was no air conditioned bar available in the evening ( you had to get your drink from the main bar and sit in the reception area where I did not find the seating comfortable at all or in the coffee/tea room where you felt awkward because you were not drinking coffee ) There were little bars around the beach but they served wine/beer or champagne no spirits. The main bar day & night had unbelievable banging music playing. Don't even ask me to name a tune...just noise ! In the evening there was an outdoor nightclub well into the morning with lasers flashing. In our room at night the noise was immense. I also did not appreciate the paper place mat as a dinner set up. We were moved to another Rixos hotel close by with 5 days of our 2 weeks left & there the same company had proper table clothes at dinner. Don't expect 5 star here because you will find there are many compromises in the name of covid19. Never again !
After our Rhodes lockdown cancellation we were desperate to get away so this being the first time visited to both hotel and country. Sungate is a massive hotel with plenty for families and couples to do, food was excellent, pools and grounds spotless, room was large clean and very quiet but needs updated so ask for a room in the new part, I was surprised not to have the usual AI bracelet which is always a positive Snack bar at the beach is the best I’ve ever seen and great food served most of the day. Plenty water sports available and plenty flumes for kids and big kids alike! The entire staff will and can do everything for you, I would like to give a special mention to the young guys who deliver your drinks on roller blades to your lounger at super speed service. For those of you a bit wary of visiting because of Covid do not fear !!! I like to get out the hotel for some retail therapy so for me I would have liked to have a modern big shopping mall, there are small shops directly outside the hotel who will easily supply all your souvenir cigs knock off branded clothes etc, there are some shops within the hotel that are massively overpriced so avoid. All the staff are always cleaning, wearing masks and social distancing is practiced by everyone.
I have only one negative....Russians flock here as their holiday destination, they have to be the rudest and most unfriendly individuals I’ve met on my travels, to attract more Europeans to the hotel Rixos needs to be a bit more diverse.
I would not hesitate to revisit the hotel but in peak holiday season and without covid it would be manic. Beautiful hotel and country. 😃
