The hotel is very basic. An old building quite clean but otherwise poorly maintained. Since it was the only available room we had very little choice so we took it though could hardly overcome the stuffy air.
We stayed here for two nights while driving the Route Napoleon. The hotel is on the main square, but is very quiet. We had a room overlooking the square; I’m a light sleeper, but didn’t hear the market being prepared on Wednesday morning, so the double glazing must be very good! It was a Superior Double Room - good size, light and airy with a large bathroom. Free parking on site at the rear of the hotel is secure and excellent. We didn’t use the restaurant, although it looked very nice. Breakfast was very good.
The hotel is well placed for visiting the Gorge de Verdon, and our great host Cyrille gave us lots of information about the best way to explore this beautiful area.
We will definitely stay here again when we return to Castellane.
On our drive homeward bound we stopped in this gem of a hotel. The setting was so splendid and the hotel had stunning views from our room of the square and surrounding location. The rooms were typical and classic of a bygone era but absolutely beautiful. You could want for nothing. The experience was amazing and it was a shame that we were only going to be spending one night. The town was small but busy and there were a few restaurants open given it was end of the season. I would welcome going back again for much longer.
After a campervan breakdown we found ourselves in Castellane at 2130 on a Friday night with hastily grabbed luggage following a long and arduous day of breakdown. Wandering in off the street we asked if they had a room and were met with a friendly lady who welcomed us in, speaking perfect English despite my best efforts at French, showed us sympathy for the day we had had, and really made the hotel feel like a place of refuge. We ended up staying for 3 nights over a bank holiday waiting for news from the garage and felt very well looked after.
They went out of their way to make us feel welcome, even calling the garage on our behalf and translating when we were getting no where fast with information from the UK breakdown company.
The room was clean and basic, but the view out of the window was the most incredible I have ever had from a hotel. Worth twice what we paid for the room.
Would recommend highly.
Ma Petite Auberge was one of those old hostelries that made rural Europe such an amazing experience. The room in this old building was basically furnished and quiet when we stayed. We had a bathtub with a shower on a hose with a shower curtain in our room with soap and shampoo. The hotel has no lift for taking luggage to upper floors. The hotel offers breakfast at an additional fee, but there are other options in the town of Castellane for breakfast or bakeries. Their location on the square makes everything convenient. They offer free parking but the lot is cramped and the entrance is very tight. We used it with no problems. They have a restaurant in the hotel, but we did not use it. There is no lift to take baggage to upper floors. The reception clerk had reasonable English skills.
