This is a marvellous understated and refined hotel. The bedroom was spacious with comfortable bed and settee, immaculately furnished with a a delightful bathroom and terrace. The hotel is covid-friendly - all staff wore masks inside and outside, with plenty of foot-pumped hand gel available through the property. The staff are friendly, efficient and helpful. The plentiful breakfast was buffet-style with a server bringing your choice to the table. Presentation and attention to detail was extremely good.
We dined in the gourmet restaurant. Service was slow - we waited an hour for the first course - but the food was delicious.
This is a rather special hotel and undoubtedly one of the best that we have stayed in.
Only downside was that we were only there for one nigh - cannot wait to return!
Stunning hotel, grounds and gorgeous bedrooms. We had a two week trip round France visiting many restaurants and we both agreed this was by far the best food. The service was great and the owners are around and can't do enough to help. We only stayed one night en route to Provence but could have happily stayed longer and will be back on our next trip.
Whilst we really enjoyed our visit I struggle to see it as a 5 star hotel unless it’s the wonderful gourmet restaurant that merits this.
First the staff (all of them) were outstanding.
The room was very spacious but the decor a little dated for my taste. The bed was very comfortable.
Thought it missed a swimming pool or jacuzzi inside or outside.
As said the Michelin star restaurant met all our expectations (separate review).
Would visit again.
We stayed one night here on our way from Auxerre to Lyon. Valet parking is provided and bags were delivered to our room. The 1st floor suite we booked was spacious, airy and had its own private terrace.
The king size bed was comfortable and supportive and pillow selection fine.
The bathroom was well appointed with a separate toilet and shower.
A jazz duo was playing on the terrace for a couple of hours before dinner where an aperitif was enjoyed in the relaxing environment.
We had booked dinner and were able to select our menu choices whilst sitting outside on the terrace.
Dinner inside, in the hotel restaurant was exceptional and sommelier and maitre d' were both informative, welcoming and friendly. The ambience of the restaurant was really welcoming and sound level neither noisy nor hushed tones. Our meal was well paced and even though we were the last to finish our meal, we by no means, felt rushed to leave the table. As a special 30th anniversary gift, we were given a cubic candle and glass candlestick with congratulations from the maitre d'.
We walked around the extensive grounds that included a large vegetable garden, many huge old trees, a former millstream, weir and disused mill wheel. A golf course is nearby, but was not used as we don't play.
We love everything about this place and no trip down to Provence and back would be complete without a stay here.
Suzanne and Jean Louis were their usual welcoming selves as were Bernard the maitre d` and Nicolas the sommelier. As always the room was extremely comfortable and the food imaginative, delicious and beautifully presented.
The room we had had been updated and was very comfortable indeed.
Roll on next year which has already been booked!
