We stayed in Cottage #1 for three nights in August. There is boating and fishing, as well as a small sandy beach, just two minutes away on Jackfish Lake. If you stop early, you can head over to the beach for a swim.
The general manager, Brenda, was very helpful. She advised us where we could rent a canoe to paddle on Jackfish Lake, loaned us a fishing rod, and told us where the best fishing spots were. The chocolates in the cabin were a nice touch too. This is a family-run business that cares about their guests.
The bed was very comfortable. The cottage is spotlessly clean. There is good water pressure and plenty of hot water. The cottage is spacious with an eating area, a small kitchen with the basics needed to put together a meal, and a comfy couch, as well as a large deck with chairs and a picnic table. There’s also a shared gas barbecue for grilling.
The wifi connection is very weak. We also had no cell phone reception, but there’s a pay phone on-site. Most of the time, the wifi signal is good enough to check email and watch downloaded movies, and YouTube.
The Trans Canada Highway passes right by the motel, so there is traffic noise during the day. The bedrooms are at the back of the cottage, so the highway noise is minimal even with the windows open.
The property itself is very quiet, and we slept well.
The cottages are 15 minutes from Terrace Bay, and the grocery store and restaurants. Excellent value for money. Highly recommend this spot for an overnight stay, or as a base for exploring Neys Provincial Park, Terrace Bay and Schreiber.
I highly recommend staying here. Brenda was extremely friendly and very accommodating. We stayed for 2 nights in a 2 bedroom cottage. It was super clean and very comfortable. We had a front deck we could sit on and look at the lake across the street. Beautiful. Thank you Brenda and the Richards' for a memorable stay.
My husband and I were traveling to Thunder Bay with my parents and we last minute booked a cottage as we didn't know how far we would be driving that day. We had low-ish expectations, just wanted a clean room and bed to sleep on. These cottages were super adorable! Recently renovated with a little kitchenette, honestly we kind of wished would could spend more time there. The wifi was ok, not good enough to stream a video but fine for checking up on emails, socials, messages etc. Beds were comfortable and the recently updated decor was done very tastefully. I definitely recommend this place, and the price also can't be beat!
We stayed at Jackfish Lake Cottages on our way to Thunder Bay. The room was very nice with a modern kitchenette, very comfortable beds and a very nice bathroom.
It was spotlessly clean and near a beautiful lake just before Terrace Bay. The owner was extremely nice and accommodating. The price was very reasonable. We liked it so much we stayed there on the way back.
We highly recommend staying here.
I originally planned to spend the night in Terrace Bay based on some reviews, but all the motels/hotels were booked! They referred me to Marathon for my next stop, but on my way came across the Jackfish Motel Cottages. It was a good place to spend the night(I paid $79 before tax), but if you are someone who needs access to your electronics, it may not be the best place to stay. I had a very slow wi-fi connection and had no cell phone service. It is a dated location, but there is definitely owner pride that shows through. It was clean and a cute place. A note for many of the motels around this area, you want to plan and call before hand to avoid "no vacancies". They book up fast because of contractors and railway workers.
As a summary,
-has a fridge and kitchenette
-a lake right across the street(can access it by walking approx 7 mins down the hwy)
-great place for a night stay
-the curtains did not completely cover the window in my room
-the bed was a little short, your feet may hand off the end
-not great wi-fi connection
-satellite tv was available, but signal was not great for some channels
-close to the highway, so if you are a light sleeper, you may be bothered by the traffic
