I loved this hotel. The room was so comfortable - because the interior was lined with cedar planks, it actually had a pleasant cedar smell inside! Very cute property that is away from the main road enough to be a little quieter than the Santa Elena hotels. I just really liked the vibe here. The staff was also very nice.
We stayed here for two nights.
The hotel is close enough to the main town to walk to well within 15
minutes (downhill to go in and uphill to get back).
WiFi in reception area was the only place that I could connect, it did not work in our room.
Our room was large with two double beds and a balcony. It was a shame that our balcony didn’t even have a chair on as it would have been nice to sit out on. The room was very dark and made worse by the fact that we had to close the curtain as you could see straight into our room otherwise. There is no safe in the room and breakfast is not included in the rate.
However, we felt safe in the room and would recommend staying here especially as we were out of the room most of the time.
It is a nice country lodge, but fairly far from the town centre. You need to walk up/down the hill for 15-20 mins.
Unfortunately, our room was the closest to the road and we could hear by-passing cars. On there is a hammock and green sitting area.
Staff are helpful and caring.
Value for money
The first night resulted in almost no sleep because the mattresses in the beds did not have a so called "bed topper" ( on them so as a result we felt like we slept on something like a "bed of nails". The next morning, - after complaining about the mattresses - the very friendly owner moved us to a different room (with as a bonus a balcony!) and in this room both beds did have a topper so the problem was solved! Breakfast is basic and the location is only a 5 minute walk from the center of Monteverde.
Family owned and run hotel. They staff are very friendly, welcoming and very helpful. They even have a super friendly beagle dog running around that visit with everyone. They speak English extremely well so there’s no language barrier issue. We arrived really early but they offered to hold our luggage and hurried to get the room ready. We were starving anyway after being on the bus for 4 hour and they suggested a restaurant right down the road. By the time we came back everything was ready. Rooms were clean, they provided a small bottle of wine, and the biggest plus, the shower was hot! It is a 10 min walk to the center of the town, but it was all downhill. I would suggest a taxi back up which only cost around $2. Maybe less than that. There is a really good restaurant called Bon Appetit that has wood fired pizza! It’s like a 5 min walk from the hotel.
The staff was really helpful in arranging tours and transportation. Anything you need. They even have a laundry service! The breakfast was good, fresh fruits and coffee, eggs, beans and rice, and pancakes! The grounds were well kept and had many different trees and flowers beautifully landscaped. I’m always sold on hospitality so I will definitely be back to this place!
