Hotel Beck is located almost opposite the the train station in Lauscha - not a busy station, but there are hourly trains to Sonneberg and further into the Thuringer Wald. We were welcomed on our arrival, shown our room - ground floor as requested - and given advice on where to eat over the weekend. Do note this hotel no longer has a restaurant!
It did seem a long trek up an incline to glass zentrum and restaurant, but we were served very adequate schnitzel and bier.
The hotel proprietors could no be more helpful. The accommodation was simple, but adequate. Breakfast was adequate - and typical German fare. Our only negatives were the steps to the front door - a bit of a struggle for me - and the meeting that seemed to take place outside our window each morning around 7am.
Lauscha is an interesting place with an extraordinary history - I have waited 15 years to visit. Well worth the visit, but I suspect towards Christmas, everything gets much more commercial!
There is no bar or restaurant serving evening meals despite photos on the internet showing you otherwise. The room is dated and surrounding area is horrible. It is not easy accessible if you struggle walking up the stairs. I will not come again...
What a hidden Gem the scenery is to die for beautiful I was disappointed when our trip from the airport ended the scenery was breathtaking. Lauscha is a very quaint place to visit and a visit to the glass factory is a must fortunately for us English whose German is not very good there are printed sheets for you to follow the tour. They have a lovely cafe too well worth a visit. Be warned if you are staying in Lauscha through the weekend everything and I mean everything closes down. We were staying bed and breakfast at the Hotel Beck so that left us in a predicament of where we could eat and although our hotel had a restaurant they also shut down which is not very good when you have guests staying. I think at the time of check in it would have been nice to be told and would be a worry if you had children ! Also some sort of information would have been appreciated at the time if booking in like where the nearest doctor is chemist etc we were given a key for the room and that was that. Language of course is an obstacle for us and for the owner of the hotel but a bit of research could provide a printed sheet we were trying our best with a translation app. On the whole the hotel is basic but clean breakfast is lovely based on buffet style. Staff at the hotel were very friendly although of course we couldn't ask anything easily as we were not understood. I would stay again but would need to find extra information out. If you are staying over the weekend drive to Sonneburg where you will find a Chinese restaurant that does stay open.!!!
The room was nice and clean, breakfast was good, and also dinner was very satisfactory. The hotel is easily reachable by train during all day, it is the perfect place to spend one night in the middle of the forest while visiting Thuringia.
We stayed in the Hotel Beck for two nights while visiting Lauscha. Lauscha is a very remote place and you have to navigate a lot of winding mountain roads to get there but it is home to a lot of traditional glass and glass Christmas ornament artisans. The hotel is nice with a nice restaurant and seems to be a family operation. We found it to be friendly and comfortable and I would stay there again. Good wifi and good breakfast. Only complaint was our room was on the third floor and no elevator, but it is Europe and you should expect that I guess.
