We were very happy when we came to the room with a nice view over the Kiel Canal. Nice to see the vessels pass in front of the hotel. But then came the night (in December) and then we found that the door to the outside was leaking cold air. One of us had red eyes and cough in the morning due to that air leak. Internet 14 Mbit down and 10 up.
The hotel has a restaurant with a lot of well tasting dishes. Though, the service could be better. We had to wait a long time for the menu and then a long time for the food. The breakfast was rich and varied. To recommend? Yes, but be aware to get a room with no air leak.
ConventGarten is a modern business hotel which offers a very nice restaurant, and an excellent breakfast buffet. The rooms are just average - rather on the small side really, but clean and the amenities offered are sufficient. If you book a room that faces south (i. e. with canal view), big ships pass by your window all the time.
There is sufficient parking. The service is ok., but not overly friendly.
All in all, it is certainly a good place to stay, though it is a bit outside the city center.
Convent Garten is located next to the canal, which makes it very nice when dining at the restaurant.
The food of the restaurant is excellent, and they have a monthly menu as well; and I was able to sample some items from the July and August menus due to my 1 week stay.
This is the primary reason for them getting 4/5 instead of 3/5.
The staff are very friendly, but laundry service needs to be improved. My colleague had a couple of damaged clothes and one missing piece. For me, my white jersey came back with a very very light tinge of blue.
For those who want to buy some groceries, the hotel is near 2 supermarkets but its distance to the town center is about 10mins walk.
Do note that there is no air conditioning, hence in the summer months, it can be warm and you would need to open the windows.
Beds and pillows were a tad too soft for my liking.
The wifi needs to be improved, the speed is very slow and sometimes patchy connection, this would need to be improved.
A very quiet away from it all hotel. The rooms and amenities were more than adequate.
The restaurant and service was excellent as was the bar. Had a room overlooking the canal and enjoyed watching the shipping and yachting activities going on.
Stayed for 2 nights in a junior suite with canal view. Nice hotel near the Kieler Kanal. In fact between the hotel and the canal is only a path, so no traffic noise. Good beds, but very soft pillows. You can open a window. Large bathroom in this junior suite.
No aircon and that is bad news (during summer) for rooms on the canal side. These rooms get very hot. A fan should be available. Aircon would even be better. Consider to skip the view and choose a room on the streetside. Then also less noise from people leaving the often used meeting rooms, located between the hotel and the restaurant. You can see the large (!) ships passing sitting in the restaurant or on the terrace. The restaurant is ok for German standards, the view is special.
Last but not least is the breakfast. One word: superb. Hotel offers value for money. Kind staff too. Large parking and free wifi.
