Every hotel has some rooms that are not pleasant. The first room I was given had ripped black out curtains. I asked for a better room. Eventually I asked for a manager and the situation didn't really get much better. I did note when I checked out the next morning that the upgraded (??) better quality room cost had not been added to my bill.

Dealing with this check in and trying to find a room was not a pleasant experience at the front desk. The woman was a novice employee, we found out later, and did not handle the situation well. She had very limited English and my Austrian friend had challenges with the situation too.

I asked for a room with a double bed and was told that they didn't exist in the hotel, only Austrian beds (?) which were two twins pushed together.

I asked for a top sheet as the room was very hot and the quilt too heavy. No top sheets existed in the hotel, only fitted bottom sheets.

Air conditioning? We were told to open the window. This is not a suitable hotel to stay in during heat waves.

I went alone to the dining room when it opened for breakfast and noted all the nice tables by windows were reserved. Nasty service by both staff people in the dining room. Food was average for a hotel buffet.

Dear Sharon, thank you very much for your review of our hotel. I am sorry that your overnigtht stay did not go occording to your wishes. Regarding the air condition, actually we do not need them, because the evenings are alwayse cool, unfortunately there were in this season same very hot days and the nights did not cool off either. We offered you a change of room, but you did not want to change the room. I apologize to you if my employees were unfriendly. A final information, all rooms will be renovated in the fall, also we plan to install an air conditon for the future. Best regards Gerfried Gaugelhofer GM

My visit was for work, but the scenery was lovely with fresh snow for Christmas. The breakfast is absolutely perfect. Many fresh dishes to choose from. The room is high standard. Service is very friendly.

We arrived to a warm reception after a beautiful drive from Linz. Our room was ready, comfortable and spotless.

We had a standard room in the new part of the hotel. There was a balcony overlooking the town and the mountains beyond with two chairs and a table. Inside there were also two comfortable chairs.

In the original part of the hotel is a comfortable bar/lounge and beyond that several dining rooms including a particularly cozy pine panelled room.

On the top floor of the new wing is a spectacular pool area with both indoor and outdoor pools, a sauna and various lounges. All this and fabulous views of the mountains too!

Service throughout the hotel was very good and the food was also good, but not exceptional.

If we were in the area again we would return.

A lovely hotel in Bad Aussee. My bf and I stayed here for a weekend in March.

Room: We had a nice room with a small balcony looking over the town. There was a really nice smell in the room from the wooden furniture, as if you’re out in the forest. Beds were very comfortable, the rooms was clean and we even had a sofa. Bathroom was small, but clean and the toilet was separated from the shower.

SPA/Pool: The SPA on the 5th floor is awesome! there’s a hot tub outside with a view over the town and an indoor pool with a panorama window. The outdoor sauna on the roof was out of order, but there is another sauna on the 2nd floor where the massages, steam bath etc. are located. On Saturday there were many guests, on Sunday the SPA was quiet and calm. Towels and bathrobes are provided in the rooms. They have big sunbeds for two people to cuddle in the spa ☺ there’s also water, tea, yoghurt and muesli on the 5th floor included in the price of the room.

Dinner: We booked the half-board option and it was delicious! But all five courses were too much to eat for me (I guess I took too much from the salad buffet…) so I skipped the dessert. Before the start of the dinner, we were served a pink drink as an aperitif, which was really good. We had fish for starters, then the salad buffet, soup, main dish and desert buffet (though only my bf had room for dessert). The main dish (salmon) was delicious! Service was friendly and fast during dinner, but we had to wait a while to be seated.

Bar: After dinner we had two cocktails in the bar. During dinner, we heard the music in the bar and it was soo good that we decided to have a few drinks later and listen. It was live music on the piano and saxophone; a lovely end to our evening.

Breakfast: Continental buffet breakfast (including smoked salmon) and English breakfast. Notable was the wide selection of cheeses and mustards and the different kinds of water (water with energizing stones, water from the town well, water with ginger or spices…), which were fun to try out, and juices. Sparkling wine was also offered.

Parking: There’s free parking in the garage. At 4pm we got the last parking spot in the garage; the space is very narrow – you need to be a good driver.

Service: Fast & friendly during check in and check out. You can use the spa the whole day on the day of departure after check-out, which is awesome. Room service was great too.

Summarizing, this place is perfect for a weekend getaway, my bf and I will visit again when we need a break from work :)

Erzherzog Johann hotel in Bad Aussee may not have the lake view, but is an excellent hotel with much to offer (such as a spa with indoor/outdoor pool). Comfortable room very clean, and substantial breakfast, as well as convenient to interesting sights like Altaussee and the Salzwelt mine where the nazis hid stolen art. Fascinating.
