The Hayloft is just 10 minutes outside of the Wanaka village on a lovely property facing north towards the lake and mountains in the distance. You can sit on one of the two balconies, enjoy local wine and cheese and listen to the birds. The building is made of straw bales and maintains a comfortable temperature. It has a serviceable kitchenette, full bathroom with shower (no bath) and a lovely bedroom with a south-facing balcony for morning sun. The owners are quiet and friendly.
We stayed just overnight but really enjoyed ourselves. Huge apartment with stunning views from both lounge and bedrooms. Everything for our breakfast was delicious, especially the warm freshly baked loaf! Cosy beds and lovely toiletries made this a place to remember
This was a truly lovely and peaceful location but still not far from the Lake. The apartment is upstairs with its own entrance and has a separate lounge with balcony, (fab views out to mountains) kitchen area with everything you need as provisions for breakfast were provided and were delicious.
Double bedroom with another balcony looking the other direction, mainly sheep grazing which was so soothing. The dark sky at night was just fantastic and the intensity and quantity of twinkly stars was phenomenal from either balcony.
Just lovely and our hosts were happy to advise on places to see which we did.
Gem of a place
Thankyou
We like our holidays quiet, peaceful and low-key with plenty of skiing; The Hayloft in Wanaka was perfect. John and Julie intuitively balance a sense of privacy and space with being social. They came across as being very welcoming and generous and willing to do virtually anything to make your stay a pleasant one. John is very knowledgeable of the region and will not only offer recommendations for eateries and places to visit but specific things to look out for and sample in the establishments themselves.
The property itself is set in a tranquil location with an aspect which allows you to enjoy the sunrise and sunset along with uninterrupted views of the countryside. The living, bath, shower and bed room are very spacious, we felt comfortable immediately and were somewhat surprised when the final night of our week-long stay snuck up on us.
It was a novelty staying in a house constructed of straw with vibrantly painted interior walls. It was very warm with the winter sun streaming into the living room all afternoon. The dinnerware was of a decent quality which is rarely the case in self catering accommodation, while the bed and linen made for a cosy and comfortable sleep.
We were therefore very sad when our stay drew to a close!
This was by far the best place we stayed during our trip to the South Island, with a well stocked kitchen, very comfortable bedroom and spacious lounge and bathroom areas. Not at all far from the centre of town but far enough away to have peace and quiet. Skylights provide natural light (and starlight!) and the whole place is extremely cosy. Fantastic views of the hills. John and Julie were very knowledgeable and helpful, providing good advice on places to visit and eat at on our way back to Queenstown
