Robin and Louise were great hosts and very helpful. The room was huge with a great bed and amenities were superb. Lent us spades for hot water beach and allowed us to come back, shower and leave later than planned. Much appreciated. Did not use pool as weather not good enough but gardens are well looked after.

My sisters and I travelled the North and South islands of New Zealand in 3 weeks, covered a lot of ground and stayed in some amazing places.
Lou and Robin at Hahei Bed and Breakfast managed to steal the show in our eyes. The room was absolute luxury and the breakfast was the most amazing selection of scrumptious and creative treats. Home made egg bakes, pastries, divine muesli, yoghurt and dried fruit jars were just a few of the things we were served up.
The enthusiasm and kind nature of Lou and Robin made all the difference when moving around from place to place. They were full of recommendations, suggestions, and went above and beyond to assist us to make our time in the area perfect.
I would award it 10 stars out of 5 and would recommend anybody who is near the area to stop over for at least one night of bliss :-)
Thanks again Lou and Robin xx

I went there for 4 days with my girlfriend. Our first impressions were very good with a friendly host. He recommended a restaurant across the street with a little pricy menu and then spoke bad about the other places in town. We went to one of the other places in town and found him 2 times.
The breakfast is the worst i have ever tried. I tried the continental and the fruit he served was rotten and there were mold on the grapes. I just ate a toast with jam instead.
Our room was okay, but needed a fridge.
2 thumps for internet and washing machine. Hahei B&B is also to expensive for what you get and I wont recommend it to anyone. Been in NZ for 1 month and this is the worst place to stay.

Dear Andreas,
Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback to us about the time you spent at our B&B. We are sorry to hear your stay with us was not all it could have been.
There are a wide range of wonderful dining and activity options in our area depending on what you are seeking, and we try our best to recommend those that will fit with what our guests have told us they are looking for. We apologise that in this instance our recommendation did not fit your expectations, and we will keep your comments in mind when we advise guests seeking restaurant suggestions in the future.
We also apologise about your experience with the fruit. The fruit we serve at our B&B is organic, which means that while it is preservative, hormone and chemical-free, it sometimes isn’t as shiny and bright as other fruit in the market. That said, we agree it should always be fresh, and if we are informed about an oversight regarding any food we serve at the time, we are happy to exchange it for something else where available or make up for it in another way during your stay.
Again, we are very sorry to hear your experience did not live up to first impressions. It is important to us that we are able to provide as enjoyable an experience as possible to all our guests, and we do hope the remainder of your travels were all you hoped they’d be.

We just had a two night stay at Hahei BandB and left with a bit of a mixed bag of thoughts. First the good.... the location is excellent. It might be a bit of a walk for some down to the beach but my wife and I did it a few times and thoroughly enjoyed the outings. As well, we were in the Palm Room which is large, bright and comfortable. It wasn’t the room we were scheduled to be in but due to some booking problems we were given this room and it was comfortable. You also have to love Alfie, the resident Shitzu, who all guests were tempted to dog-nap. Robin was helpful in giving suggestions as to where to go and what to see and both he and Louise are very knowledgeable about the area.
On the downside (and these aren’t so much criticisms as they are general feedback), while the room mixup did work out in the long run, we were booked for the Mr and Mrs Smith room which we poked into when the door was open and liked it more than the Palm room. The biggest obstacle for us was that the Palm Room is right above the residence and last night was so noisy, we had to turn our tv up loud to hear. For two hours we listened to the music and voices and laughter which only went until 10:15 but the point is that when I’m on holiday, I don’t want to be listening to other people in my room, especially the host. Could I have knocked on their door to ask to keep the noise down? Perhaps but I shouldn’t have to when I’m a paying customer. Bottom line, if you stay here, request the Mr and Mrs Smith room. (as an aside, we never did get an explanation as to the reservation gaff).
A couple of other incidentals. When we arrived there was nobody in the office and instructions to call either Robin or Louise. In not being familiar with NZ long distance calling I couldn’t use my iPhone so used the office phone. It turns out the residence is right beside the office so Robin came right out but as a suggestion, it would help to either have a bell that a new arrival could ring or a sign to say “please knock “ which would take the guess work away from the new guest.
As well, when you arrive you are told that breakfast is at 8:30. As it turned out, that suited our schedule enough but I got the sense that it was more for Robin and Louise’s convenience. As well, for our two day stay, breakfast was identical - a granola fruit yogurt dish and a frittata. Fine enough but it would have been nice for something a little different second day.
We did go to the hot water beach and they provide shovels but when we asked if we could use a towel, Robin was able to scrounge us up one for us to share. The next day we used the pool and again there was one towel for the two of us. It might be worth investing in some more guest towels given the available water activities.
The smaller issues wouldn’t be enough to prevent me from staying here again but the noise issue put me off enough that I probably wouldn’t. For someone else it might not be an issue.
So overall, the B&B is lovely but there are simple guest-centred improvements that could turn this from good to great.

Thank you for your review.
We are quite disappointed in this as we did everything as always with our guests, to make your stay as enjoyable as we possibly can.
We drove you - saving you the cost of the bus - up to Cathedral Cove, we had many lively conversations and especially about your forthcoming trip down through the north island were able to help you with many tips - as we do all our guests. We do provide spades and beach towels, the one Robin gave you to use was particularly large and sometimes they can be too bulky to take so many of our guests prefer only one - they are a very good quality and do not agree that he "scrounged around" to find one. We have a supply for the use of our guests.
You say there was no one to greet you - there is clearly a front door bell and as we live on the premises and might be in the back of the house - as soon as we hear it, obviously we go and answer it and welcome our guests. Obviously you did not look for the bell which is right by the front door.
We do indeed have breakfast for all our guests - not for our convenience as you say - but for all our guests to mix and mingle which they love as you can pick up tips and mingle with international guests. If 8.30 doesn't suit individual guests they can choose a different time but this has never happened as most guests enjoy the company. You should have asked us for a time on your own and we would have been happy to do this.
We try very hard to make our guests stay a fantastic experience but you cannot please everyone. Felt disappointed in these people as they came across as very friendly and it would have been polite to actually say something rather than put it on the public forum.
