I needed a place to use as a "home base" in the Mindo area while I went on several birding excursions 30-120 minutes outside the area. Cabanas Armonia was easy to get to and very inexpensive (about $27/night). I originally had a room with a shared bathroom, but they offered me a room with a private bath when they realized they had an extra (I did not even have to ask). The room was clean and well kept, and there was hot water in the shower. Tatiana and the rest of the staff were very pleasant and kind. They made me breakfast each morning as a part of the rate; and because I left very early each day, they were willing to make me a packed breakfast and left it hanging on my door. The rooms and the parking are secure and I felt very safe and comfortable the entire time I was there. The location was two blocks from most of the restaurants and shops and the walk was quite easy. I was very happy here, and would absolutely stay here again if I go back to Mindo. (If you are curious, this location is about 1 hour from Rio Silanche, 30 minutes from Milpe, and 1.5 hours from the Mashpi Area.)
We enjoyed our stay and loved the orchids, hummingbirds, and fruity breakfasts. We stayed three nights and loved the friendly people who served breakfast. It was also only three blocks to town. My only complaint is the young little woman that checked us in. She didn't seem to like us. She made it very clear that we were not to wear shoes in the room and keep the light off when not being used and not pleasant about it. She didn't greet us warmly st all.
This place is incredible!
Firstly, it's a beautiful location. The cabins are surrounded by a tropical garden, complete with hummingbird feeders. It felt like coming home to a jungle every day. The hammock on the front porch of the cabin completed the aesthetic.
Next, the cabin itself was clean and secure. The beds were comfortable, and the room did not have any issues with bugs getting in. The bathroom was even bigger than mine at home! And with hot water!
Really, the best part of this place was the service of the ladies who own it. I was very sick one day, and they made me a special tea at breakfast (which really helped). Plus, my girlfriend and I were running low on cash and the ATM in town was out of money, and the ladies offered to loan us cash until the ATM was replenished. We were astonished.
All in all, I would recommend this place to anyone traveling to Mindo, and I'd love to go there again.
I stayed with a friend for 2 nights after swapping hostels. We stayed in a private room; extremely comfortable and well-equipped. The setting was beautiful and it was so relaxing. The owner was lovely and so helpful, going the extra mile.
