Quy Nhon gives us the vibes of a small fishing village, with beautiful natural beaches and lots of fresh seafood restaurants --- that's probably why FLC Luxury Hotel's owner decided to open here. Listing the pros and cons so you'll know what to expect:
Pros: Everything here is large and spacious - the pools, rooms/suites, kids club, outdoor playgrounds, etc. Most things are in good condition. Love the bed. Enjoyed our walk around, exploring the large grounds. Appreciate that they do try to have more activities such as rental of dinghies (rubber boats) and Zorb (giant transparent balls) for riding on their giant pools.
Cons: You can tell they do try to be luxurious in terms of their overall design and even extensive iPad menus, but little details give them off e.g. poor and secondhand-looking kettles even though they're a new hotel, local average quality of food, etc.
Pros: Our kids really enjoyed feeding the goats and sheeps, especially the babies. The 70,000vnd/pax shuttle was very convenient fetching us from one station to the next. There were many animals to see.
Cons: They're not an international/well-funded/well-informed zoo, so not the best living conditions for the animals. You may not like it, but do expect local techno music blasting and locals smoking at the entrance. It is a small province in Vietnam, after all. It is the norm here.
3. SURROUNDING FISHING VILLAGE/ WHAT TO DO
Pros: Extremely near, just 5-minute or USD2 cab rides away. Few options of seafood restaurants almost right beside the most iconic attraction here, Eo Gio (Windy Waist... of a cliff). You could call the restaurant to pick you up from FLC's lobby too, for free.
Cons: Most of the shops in town are closed! So it looks a little sad passing by all the closed shops. Seafood restaurants still pretty much local standards, but good prices. Many Koreans here toasting loudly at restaurants, likely because they've promoted Quy Nhon as the Jeju of Vietnam.
Pros: We went in January, it was a cool 20 degrees celsius. Feels Christmasy in the fog. Also enjoyable for a long day out in the zoo.
Cons: It was really windy and chilly. That makes the beaches and obviously the roaring sea off-limits. Can't swim in the cold water. Sometimes it was cold just getting from the main hotel lobby to our room (7-minute walk or 3-minute buggy ride away). The promotional video with turquoise water at their beach looked great, so we'll probably consider coming back some time in summer!
FLC Grand is supposedly the higher end among the three (FLC Luxury Hotel, FLC Luxury Resort), but when we took a short buggy ride over to explore it, we realized it was not fully completed --- still many workers walking around, the restaurants looked closed, and they didn't even bother unlocking the main glass doors to the pool because of extremely low occupancy... And the pool isn't as nice too. So it will be better to stay at FLC Luxury Hotel, if you're choosing between the three.
Hotel is really great, with a lot of amenities, specious swimming pool, bar, restaurants, gym is super! etc...rooms are super big with large balconies. But the most important, service and staffs are outstanding! They are very well trained and polite. Reception, F&B, Utility's
We were looking for a beach vacation which is non-touristy, so Quy Nhon & Phu Yen were recommended by our Hanoian friend. Later I decided on FLC Quy Nhon for its perfect location with beach and golf course. Our friend had mentioned this is a local 5-star hotel so I came with the right mindset from the very beginning.
Our stay proved to exceed my expectations in many ways:
Views outside our room 2416, which is smacked in the middle of the entire resort offering both sea and pool views – Priceless!
Well-appointed spacious rooms with complete amenities
Many varieties of food and drinks at Terrace Bay and Ocean Pool Bar, that we dined twice outside the hotel
Hotel team especially the Front Office, Housekeeping and Terrace Bay often go the extra miles to assist with our requests
Special thanks to:
Ms. Tran Tu Ha, Front Office, for meeting us at the airport and our go-to person throughout our stay.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong, Terrace Bay Restaurant, for your wonderful service.
FLC Team, thank you so so much ~ you all deserve a big applause for your dedication and hardwork, for making this resort a wonderful getaway. I have been to international-branded 5-star hotel, looking good from the outside/décor, but their service is nowhere and totally cannot even match your level yet. Please do not be discouraged by the negative reviews.
PS: I was very excited to learn about FLC Prior Membership, however the hotel is unable to process instant membership, so I hope someone can contact me soon as I’ve sent an email to enquire about the membership.
Note to those who wrote negative reviews:
If you think this hotel does not meet your international standard expectation, please pack your bag and go to other resorts of international brands. Duh ~ do leverage carefully the price and expectations before condemning!
If I was able to give 3.5 stars I would’ve but I’ll round down instead of up.
About half an hour out of central Quy Nhon.
It’s a huge site so there’s a lot of walking.
Seemingly very popular with Vietnamese.
Apart from one foreign couple I was the only native English speaker I found.
Staff were very good.
Grounds are very well maintained with a beach clean up underway on the afternoon we were there.
The room was fantastic.
At 50 m2 it’s a very comfortable for a couple or a couple with a kid.
All the facilities that are available can keep you pretty well self sufficient with everything other than cooking.
Bed was superb. Very comfortable.
Great Western style bathroom with a high rainfall shower head and great water pressure.
Everything about the room we enjoyed, including a great view(1402, near the elevators and on the fourth floor).
The things we didn’t like?
For a facility that presents itself as being 5 star(I’m thinking Pullman, Furama, Hilton etc)it’s very tired, in desperate need of remedial work to the concrete and decking in the pool area and everything needs a coat of paint.
Lunch on day 1 was less than average.
Breakfast on the following day was okay, with a lot of choice.
Timeshare is fairly new in this country but in Australia it’s well established with a lot of negative stories about it and being approached a couple of times isn’t something I needed or wanted. There was no hard sell but I just didn’t need anyone wasting my time on it.
I would stay at this facility again, especially at the 50% discount off season rate we got, but without the heightened expectations.
Beautiful hotel, nice spacious room size. We stayed there three nights with kids in a family suite with balcony and beach view.
Bed is very comfortable more than enough for two big adults and one kid less then 10 years old
Free 4 small bottles of water everyday, safety locker, dining table, sofa. TV can be turned to be watched from bed or from sofa.
Nice staff though check in service is quite slow and and the hall was quite hectic with group of people and kids running around. The atmostphere was not too pleasant when firstly arrived.
Welcoming juice is really nice on a sunny day after not a short drive from the airport.
Buffet breakfast is quite variable with nice bread, nice fruits. Two or three dishes (?) were changed daily.
Transit between zones within flc resort is easy with transit vehicles
Would love to have gym opened a bit earlier say 5-5.30am
Free shutle bus with scheduled times to Quy Nhon city and/ or Ky Co, Eo Gio. Book in advance required.
Swimming pool is a must for kids. Plenty of seats around the pool to sit and relax.
Hanging clothes rail on balcony is quite handy for wet swimming suits.
Highly recommended for family with kids as all are in one place
