We loved staying at the Boomerangs for three nights, mixing walking the GOW with very special surroundings. The cabin was perfect - lots of space, privacy, great amenities (we were grateful for the washing machine after getting quite dusty on the walk, and I loved soaking in the spa bathtub). We turned into avid bird watchers on this trip, and particularly loved our neighbourhood family of nine yellow-tailed black cockatoos (Mark's gardening seems to have played a role in attracting them as seeing such large flocks is apparently quite unusual). If the sofas had been pull-outs, we would have gladly slept in the large open living room, which was perfect for star gazing after dark. At night, we could hear the ocean (beach is 5km away). The cabins are self-catering but very well equipped, so we were glad to have brought ample supplies from Apollo Bay for our dinners and large breakfasts.
Special thanks to Roz and Mark, who were very helpful - from providing maps, fly nets and advice to helping with the wifi, picking up much needed supplies and spider removal from our car!!! Be aware that wifi is limited. This is not the fault of Mark and Roz, who did what they could to help us get connected.
We walked the GOW in stages and basing ourselves at the Boomerangs turned out to be a great half-way option. One of the days, Roz very kindly dropped us at Cape Otway and we walked back to Johanna Beach (where we had parked our car); the second day, we worked with a local taxi shuttle so we could walk from Wreck's Beach back to Johanna. It worked out perfectly.
Thanks for a truly special stay - we would highly recommend the Boomerangs for any stay in the area.
A really nice place with an amazing view over the hills towards the ocean. There a not a lot of cities/villages around but it is a nice drive to the 12 apostles and Port Campbell. Our house had 2 bed rooms, a big living room/ kitchen and a nice bathroom including a bath with jet streams.
The owners are really friendly and have some good tips for things to do in the area.
What a beautiful stay at The Boomerangs with Mark and Roz. Walking into the fully furnished cottage, the first thing you notice is the amount of light being flooded into the room. Floor-to-ceiling windows cover one entire side of the boomerang, yet it doesn’t take away from the feeling of seclusion and privacy. From the high-end amenities to the aboriginal art, fireplace and electric blankets to the BBQ grill, they seem to have thought of every detail to ensure your stay is as comfortable as possible.
Surrounding the cottages are lush flower beds planted by Mark, who takes care of the gardening on the property. Walking around, it’s apparent he takes pride in keeping the space beautiful for his guests to enjoy. Adding to the ‘homey’ feel, they even provide a pair of gardening scissors for guests to make their own bouquets. It’s these thoughtful details that made our stay so enjoyable. Would definitely come back!
We travelled to the Boomarangs during the September school holidays and it was the perfect little family getaway. Whilst they wouldn't suit a big family (only two rather small bedrooms) our son had a ball playing on the grass, picking flowers (with the secateurs left for that purpose), helping his dad build a fire and throwing the stick for the beautiful dog, Hanna, who belongs to the owners, Roz and Mark, and clearly owns the joint.
Roz and Mark were extremely helpful and the cottages have clearly been looked after and refinished to a high standard over the years. Better yet, the small kitchen is properly stocked with all the essentials so you don't have to make a dash for the general store because you forgot to pack the oil.
But its really all about the view. I can image it's lovely to sit out and enjoy the view from the deck in summer, but for us it was all about boardgames in front of the fire and watching the storms roll by.
Would be lovely for a couple.
We had a great time staying at The Boomerangs for 4 nights in July 2016 during school holidays. Roz and Mark were great hosts. The gas log fire kept us nice and warm, together with the split system, the cottage was the perfect getaway from the hectic city life. Inside, splendid wall to floor windows with great views, two good sized bedrooms and two very comfy couches in the living area. Very well stocked kitchen and the spa in the bathroom as a nice addition. We went through so much wood keeping the fire going day and night, it was a great place to unwind, do nothing, but also lots to do around the place. We went to the 12 Apostles, the Otway's Skyline Tour (must book) and also went to Lavers Hill for lunch one day. We had a 13 year old child with us, and he absolutely loved the cottages, we will definitely be back!
