Choosing a place to spend my 40th birthday, being a mom of two was an easy task having this hotel as an option. A place where I could get my spoil on while the kids are constantly entertained and taken care of. From the pampering at the arrival with delicious welcoming drinks to the marvelous wellness on the top ( do not leave without getting a massage ) to the delicious dinners and well thought out deco, this perfectly placed up in the sky midst the mountains paradise hotel makes for a very relaxing experience. The indoor swimming pools or the breath taking infinity pool is both enjoyable for children and adults, and the view makes any postcard jealous. Outdoor sports are also easily within reach. There’s something for all tastes and ages, we simply adored our stay and will certainly be coming back in a near future. Family Jufer
I recently spent 2 nights here with 24 other friends from the USA! When you arrive in Braunwald you will have to walk to the hotel. There are no cars. Every room in this hotel has an amazing view! The rooms are big (including the bathroom) and the beds are comfortable. You start your day with a very good breakfast buffet, complete with eggs, bacon, many cheeses and breads, and fresh cut ham, salami, etc...all was delicious. We ate dinner there both nights during our stay. Prior to dinner they have a wine tasting if you would like to attend. Either Patric or his wife Nadia open 3 different wines, tell you about each one and then provide you with a small glass of each. Now on to the dinner - you get a 5 course meal, starting with a huge salad bar, then soup, then your choice of the main course (3 choices), the a cheese bar followed by dessert. All prepared perfectly by the chef and his staff. All of the wait staff were very nice and attentive to our needs. The lower level has a nice size bar complete with a separate sitting area and a pool table. This hotel also caters to children. On site there are goats, rabbits and guinea pigs to watch. While riding the elevator the first 3 floors there is an aquarium so you can watch the fish. During the wine tasting - the kids go to "story" time - and either Patric or Nadia tell a story. When finished a train leads the children into their own dining room - complete with a "kid" friendly buffet. So the adults can enjoy a quiet dinner while the kids are being attended to by staff. There is also a room set aside for the children - so parents can go hiking during the day and the children are attended to by the staff - books, games, painting, etc... your kids would have a great time here. Beautiful hotel, beautiful grounds and Patric and Nadia are such wonderful people. I am hoping to go back to Switzerland in the next 2 years and I will for sure be booking a room here.
An amazing place to stay in the middle of the mountains with breathtaking views and lots of warm hospitality to enjoy your holidays. Where do I start the owners, the staff, the room, the views, the food, the activities for kids, the animals around and so much more.
We were staying at the Maerchenhotel for a week, and it was such a wonderful experience for us and our 4year old son. The owners are such a lovely couple, who are always around looking after each guest and making sure that everything is as per the requirements of the guests. The staff is affable and super diligent with their job, our servers, carers at kindergarten and everyone around was such a delight to talk to. We had a south facing room and the view (OMG!!!) it was spectacular, we could sit there for hours, the room was clean and well equipped. Coming to food the breakfast had a good mix of things from fruits to toasts with jams and spreads and all sorts of meat, cereal and pastries with milk and juices, the massive cow at the entrance got the kids attention no matter what. For lunch we were mostly out hiking around and dinner was a four course meal with amazing salad, soups and most fine food with a good set of options to choose from followed by choice of cheese and then dessert, all cooked to perfection. Also, the kids have a separate dining area called the King’s room, where they are served food on special tables with lots of fun things that follow and the parents can enjoy their meal quietly while the kids have a fun time playing after dinner (such a good thing;-P). The Kindergarten at the hotel sorts out a lot of activities for the kids everyday outdoor and indoor including feeding animals, walk with lamas, playing in the playground outside and indoor activities like painting, wide range of toys and they even have a special story telling session every evening although only in German. My son loved staying with the carers who were warm and pleasant and other kids there were encouraged to play together and have a good time, my son insisted that we go out for a walk while he played at the hotel under the supervision of the carers, he really just wanted to be at the play area. Also, the hotel has a lot of outdoor activities set up like rock climbing, go karting, they have a water slide and swimming pool to keep you occupied in case the weather keeps you in for a day.
We would definitely love to go back for another summer break there and also recommend staying at the hotel to anyone who plans on going to Braunwald. Thank you so much for your outstanding hospitality and services.
We were very curious to try this hotel. Having traveled extensively and worked in the hospitality industry for years I was very intrigued by the concept. First of all we can see the family running it really cares about the place and is involved in the daily grind right alongside their employees.
The room we had facing south had an amazing view. I could not get tired of it.The breakfast was really nice and the kids were very surprised at the mooing cow in the entrance. Very funny! There is a LOT to do in the hotel for kids and parents alike. We stayed in the summer and we enjoyed the playgrounds, the karts, the animals and hiking nearby.
Now why is it not perfect. For 2 things, one of them I really can excuse. The other one not so much.
1. the food at lunch and dinner. Lunch is in a tiny restaurant with a pitiful buffet of food that is tortured to no end. One day it was raining and the place just could not cope. Everyone was running around grabbing chairs and high chairs. It was a mess of empty trays of food and stressed out servers. The guests ended up having to do everything themselves. Poor servers and poor guests.
The food at dinner was supposed to be a 4 course dinner to enjoy the food but some things they served were just inedible (undercooked pork for instance). However this is the point that I don't care that much because I did not choose this hotel for the food but rather for the child care and fun for the kids.
2. This is the point I have a hard time accepting: the kids club which here is called Kindergarten. The hotel does something different and announces that they accept kids of all ages even babies as long as the children can be separated from their parents. This is not very common in a lot of hotels and it was a main reason for us to book as we live far from family and can never get a break. I think they take a bet that most babies won't want to stay there because:
- they do not have enough staff to care for the babies plus the big kids. Sometimes there was only 1 carer there for over 10 kids. I felt very insecure leaving my baby and waited for someone else to arrive
- my baby is very easy going and we could leave her there but it became harder and harder to leave her. The idea was to leave both kids in the morning for 3h and spend time with them all afternoon until bedtime. However she started not being very happy because it was not very inviting and that brings me to the third point.
- the staff is not warm at all so no wonder small babies and toddlers do not want to stay there. My son is 4 years old and autonomous so he just did the activities and loved it. However my toddler is 16 months old and at least 2 times we found her by herself doing nothing.
I want to be fair and the hotel is very nice and in a gorgeous location. Rooms are impeccably clean. The swimming pool is nice but crowded. The hotel is definitely missing an adults only pool even if a small one but I understand that space is limited.
All in all it is an incredible experience however for the rates and for what they advertise I truly expected a better experience at Kindergarten. Too understaffed and not warm towards the children except for Isabel who was lovely and always addressed my children by their name. Lovely lady! We also loved Marta who served us almost every day at the restaurant. Thank you!
The hotel is almost perfect for kids. Runs like a machine but is missing a bit of heart. That is why I do not give it top rating here.
The hotel is great for kids! Lots of activities. Managers are especially nice, however they are definitely nicer to Swiss...Staff is really nice and helpful!
The hotel regular rooms lack proper insulation and should be touched up a bit, however the suite are great and very well maintained.
View from the rooms and the pool and the spa are amazing!
