Arrived off the hills in the midst of “Storm Francis” soaked to the skin after a long walk from Llanidloes on the Glyndwr Trail. What a welcome! Log burner lit and soaking clothes hung up to dry in the lounge. Lovely food, great room and very friendly staff and the gale raged outside. Can’t recommend highly enough.

Stayed 2 nights at the Y Star. Spotless modern twin room. Great shower and comfortable beds. Fabulous breakfasts and Evening Meals ( Gluten Free very well catered for )
However, the highlight of the trip was without doubt the friendly reception from Gareth and Karen, the staff and other customers. I was made to feel like a friend.
I’m back in the area every month training, this will be my base.
Highly recommended.

A remote location which adds to the charm.Few local amenities.
Reasonable attention to covid restrictions.
Room was spacious with huge bathroom.
Described as having mountain view but was not was what we were expecting.
Sat outside to eat evening meal and were plagued by midges which spoilt what was a good meal.
Breakfast was overcooked so was disappointing.
Welcome and service throughout were good.
BNB rate charged was on the high side.
Overall opinion was good.

This place is a real gem, I'm almost reluctant to leave this review as I want to ensure there's always room for me to return!
Karen the owner is lovely and went out of her way to sort out a problem with the booking at ebookers end, which allowed us to reserve a particular room which wasn't available. She called before we arrived and made sure we were happy with the alternative she offered.
The Inn itself is delightfully remote, we just wish the covid restrictions hadn't ensured we were unable to enjoy the atmosphere of the bar and sitting room with lovely log-burner fires.
Some work is being done on the exterior to provide further sitting/dining opportunities to enjoy the beautiful surroundings.
Our room was immaculate with good power shower and the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in at any 5 star hotel, seriously, it was amazing, just what’s needed after a hard day’s walking/riding/sightseeing or whatever you choose to do in this beautiful part of the world.
And to top off a perfect nights sleep, what better than a delicious and plentiful breakfast, impeccably cooked, using fresh and, I’m told, locally sourced ingredients.
I’m notoriously fussy with high standards and expectations when I'm paying for something and this wonderful little place lived up to them all. Thank you Karen and all your team, we will definitely be back. Soon, I hope!

We stayed at Y Star the first weekend after lockdown was partially lifted. We had a great experience and really enjoyed our stay. As warm a welcome as we have had anywhere, our room was excellent with a comfy bed great facilities. There were some restrictions due to covid-19 regulations but Karen, Gareth and the staff ensured that the impact was kept to a minimum. Great location for walks et. We will definitely be back. Highly recommended.
