I recently stayed at Hillcrest House BnB for the evening. I am bicycling around Ireland and I arrived after a particularly difficult and rainy day. Even though I was early Evelyn was able to show me into the house, show me the room, etc...she gave me a warming and invigorating cup of tea to revive me. For a small fee she washed some of my sweaty bike clothes and I was able to hang my tent out on the line to dry since I had had to pack it away wet that morning.
My room was clean, comfortable and the shower was hot with an assortment of shower gel and shampoo provided. She is able to arrange an evening meal but I ate out. Breakfast was excellent with your choice of continental or full Irish or all the above.
The next morning was blowing 6 and 7 Beaufort with sheets of rain for several hours and she kindly allowed me to stay through the morning until the rain and wind had died down. Off I went to my next waypoint. My experiences at Hillcrest House were superb. I can not recommend it enough for any traveler in northern Mayo! Thank you Evelyn!
I arrived relatively late and tired after a long day's bike ride. It was just like coming home with such a great welcome and I immediately felt that nothing was too much trouble. My host was kind enough to go out and get me some soya milk when I mentioned that I was vegan. I was planning an early start and was left a really nice breakfast to set me off om the right foot the following day. The bedroom was comfortable and I had a really good night's sleep. Good value for money too.
Stayed while cycling the Wild Atlantic Way.Really appreciated having all our clothes and panniers etc., dried out ready for the next day.We had a comfortable but small room.It was a good overnight. Our only complaint was the vastly overpriced meal we were served, out of a tin and rather small with a dessert of 2 ginger biscuits. The total price for our stay was only a fraction cheaper than an excellent night in a hotel the following night and a boutique guest house the night after..I think you pay for the lack of alternative accommodation. Would not recommend.
My family of four stayed in the triple room for one night in June 2017. When we arrived, Evelyn treated us to tea and biscuits and we relaxed in the living room watching the hurley game. When trying to figure out where to eat dinner, we remembered that this B+B offered dinners, and with an hour's notice, Evelyn made my husband a steak, potatoes, and veg, my two sons sausages and chips, and heated up my leftover pizza. Breakfast was also delicious--my husband was really excited to get a full Irish breakfast. Since we were is desperate need of clean clothes, I asked Evelyn if we could do a load of laundry and she did it for us. A few nights after we checked out, I discovered that I had left a tank top in our room so I emailed Evelyn to see if it had been found. She had found it, along with a pair of my son's underwear, and mailed the items express to our hotel in Dublin so we'd get the package before our flight home. Our every need was met and we're so thankful we chose to stay at Hillcrest House. If we ever have the pleasure of returning to Bangor Erris, we know where we're staying!
I was lucky to find this place by recommendation. Welcomed with Evelyn's warm smile and tea, and a lovely comfy clean room with lots of space. Breakfast is served in the dining room which has lots of interesting things to look at. The soup in the evening was an added bonus (I hadnt booked an evening meal). Very nice stay.
