What an interesting step back in history. This home is filled with Civil War history, with themed rooms that are lovely and comfortable. Both wonderful hosts, Susan is a wonderful baker and chef, and great communicator. Bob is a wonderful history teacher and story teller. The home is filled with books and rooms for reading and recreational activities. There is an asian spa room, a rec room with exercise equipment, a game table, a swimming pool, pond, and a lovely breakfast/dining room. The rooms are well equipped with drinks and glassware, and a plethora of amenities.
Location of B&B is convenient to where family lives in the area. Made for a home away from home. Nice setting. Lots of history. Friendly owners are knowledgeable and excellent cooks. Would love to come back when it is warmer out to use the beautiful pool. Tastefully decorated.
truth be told BBs are much nicer and more personal than hotel/motels especially during the covid period .so I was already looking forwqrd to this BB that had history tied to it @ civil war .what I was not expecting was the warmth and all the little added touches that made this BB a wonderful night away ..from the christmas tree in the room to the complimentary beverages also in the room a pool table and hot tub what a great way to relax and the breakfast wow from lit candles and a beautiful chandelier hanging over the table and a full size breakfast from fruit to entree and a history discussion of Oberlin and the civil war and I learn some new and interesting things all this at a very reasonable rate a definite two thumbs up for a great historical BB ran by two warm and caring people thank you will definitely be back and recommend this BB
We chose Hallauer House for a brief stay when dropping our son at college and were not sure what to expect from the Civil War themed rooms. What we encountered was a charming environment, very comfortable night's sleep and fascinating historical chat highlighting the Oberlin community's contributions to the underground railroad and racial equity in education. The home is filled with lots of interesting antiques throughout the house. The pool looked very welcoming, but sadly we didn't take advantage. Delicious breakfast was served poolside and socially-distanced. Complimentary fridge of drinks and snacks was a very nice touch. The home was well-stocked with free sanitizer. Look forward to staying again!
Everything was very comfortable and everything you need is provided: an enormous breakfast, spa, towels for the pool/hot-tub, snacks in the rooms, antiques and history everywhere you look. Convenient for Oberlin College.
